There are many Bible Verses About Children that were revealed by God. These verses are worth knowing by all parents who are serious about training their children in the ways of God. Training your child to fear and obey God will guide him/her to the right path in life. Such a child will grow to make you proud in your old age as we can read from proverbs 29:17. Children that are brought-up in the light of God’s commands (Key Teachings of Jesus Christ) are sources of blessings to their parents. On the other hand, failing to guide and discipline your child in the ways of God will lead him/her astray. Such children will grow to give you sufficient reasons to weep and grind your teeth in an old age. They’ll quicken your journey to the grave through their evil ways that will keep you lamenting day and night.
Children that fear God are more of a blessing to their parents while those that do not are more likely to be thorns in their parents flesh. In both the Old Testament and the New Testament, God speaks about the importance of children and how much He values them. In as much as children are important to us, they are of a greater importance to God who created them. Out of love, God blesses us with offspring. In doing this, God expects us to train them in His ways. As parents, it is our duty to remind our children of God’s laws in the morning, afternoon, and evening. In short, we should always teach and remind them of the ways of God. By so doing, we are locating our family lineage in the mercy and favor of God. A parent who does this is a blessing to his generation.
Bible Verses About Children
What the Scriptures say about Children
Much is said about children as you’ll soon learn from our collection of the best Bible verses on children. But before we present these Bible verses, we’ll like to high-lighten the following Biblical facts about children that you should know:
1. The greatest in the kingdom of Heaven – Matthew 18:1-5
Matthew 18:1-5 — “At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”“
2. Do not stop the little children from coming to Jesus Christ but rather facilitate the process – Mark 10:13-16
Mark 10:13-16 — “Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.“
3. Children are a heritage from the Lord – Psalm 127:3-5
Psalm 127:3-5 — “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.” In simple terms, children are gifts from God to families. The word “heritage” is derived from the root meaning “inherit or to get it.” Brethren have in mind that it is an honor and responsibility to be entrusted the care of a child from God. God upon blessing us with children expects that we stand besides them to shepherd their development and growth, to provide for their needs as long as they are in our care and to advocate for them.
4. Children are part of God’s creative plan – Genesis 1:28
Genesis 1:28 – “God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. …’” After creating Adam and his companion, Eve, God commanded them to be fruitful. In simple terms, God commanded them to have children. Note that children weren’t an afterthought since God’s original design or plan included families with children. Behold, God pronounced everything about creation good, including children. That’s why we can say without doubt that children are part of God’s creative plan.
5. Children need nurture and guidance – Proverbs 22:6
Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.” When planting vines, gardeners will attach them to some framework, like a trellis or pole, to prevent them from spreading out of control. In the same light, children need a solid and well rooted structure to maintain their emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth on track. God puts us in their lives so that we can support their development and guide them in His ways through our godly examples.
6. Children need discipline – Proverbs 29:17
Proverbs 29:17 – “Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire.” If you sincerely love your children, do not fail to discipline them. In God’s presence, discipline is the key to success. Although challenging, it is not impossible to rightly discipline your children. Note that it takes the fruits of the Holy Spirit – love, peace, joy, forbearance, faithfulness, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control to rightly discipline a child in God’s way as we can read from Galatians 5:22-23. Keep in mind that parents who truly love their children will discipline them, as God does with us (Hebrews 12:7). Genuine discipline is not necessarily done in a harsh manner but in a gentle manner with the goal of leading the child to embracing the ways of God.
7. Orphans, displaced, and refugee children, and children living in poverty need special care – Zechariah 7:10
Zechariah 7:10 – “Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor …” Even in good circumstances, children remain vulnerable to attacks. These attacks or tempting factors to go astray do quadruple in conditions of violence, poverty, and suffering. That’s why the Bible singles out orphans for us to help. Children without fathers are close to orphans and also deserve our help. Another group of vulnerable children worth helping are those living as refugees (strangers), or those displaced by conflict or living in extreme poverty. For such children, there is no social or financial safety for them. There is no one to provide for their nurture or needs. God is calling all those who are faithful to Him to take care of such children in one way or the other. Always remember the following points:
- They are fatherless so that you can be their father
- They are motherless so that you can be their mother
- God blesses you so that you can become a benefactor for all who are in need
- Do not turn your back to orphans
- Stretch out a helping hand to the widows
- Do not forget those in prison but extend God’s love and blessings with them
- Be a cheerful giver in everything that you do
- Give without human expectation knowing that your reward is in Heaven
- In addition to providing material support to your neighbors, also show them the path to eternal life
8 . Children need protection Numbers 32:17
Numbers 32:17 – “… Meanwhile our women and children will live in fortified cities, for protection from the inhabitants in the land.” Behold, we live in a world governed by evil. Child labor, child exploitation, physical abuse, and child marriage are a few of the challenges regularly encountered by kids. We also have drug and alcohol addiction, gang involvements, and bulling behaviors that are negatively impacting on the well-being of children. As an extension of our love to children, we should protect them from those seeking to hurt them in one way or the other. God in entrusting children in our care expects us to fully protect them with all our strength.
