Bible Verses About Seeking God

There are many Bible Verses About Seeking God worth knowing by all His children. Jesus Christ Himself commanded us to first seek the Kingdom of God before anything. Let’s support this point by reading from Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Anyone who begins by seeking God will have all the other things being added to his/her life. A smile from God’s face on us is an expression of love, peace, blessings, favor, joy, provision, protection, and life. That is, by seeking the things of God as a priority over the things of this world, one finds true satisfaction. Such reflects you trust in God to provide your needs and continuously strengthen you to accomplish His Will. And behold, God never fails nor forsake those who put their trust in Him.

Instead of worrying about the things of this world, we should be concerned about those of God’s Kingdom. By so doing, we’ll be located by God’s mercy and favor. And for sure, anyone who is located by God’s favor will live to testify about God’s goodness, faithfulness, love, kindness, protection, and ability to provide for those who seek His face. Having said this, one might ask, “what does it mean to seek God’s face?” On several occasions in the Scriptures, God’s people are encouraged to seek His face. One of such Scriptural verse is 2 Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Bible Verses About Seeking God’s Face

We all know that no human can see God’s face and live (Exodus 33:20). So, how do we seek God’s face? In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word for “face” is often translated “presence.” Hence, when we are seeking God’s face, we are seeking His presence. The call to seek God’s face was pronounces by the Prophets who realized that God’s people had turned away from Him and needed to come back through a change of mind and the abandonment of evil ways. It is generally believed that a person’s face reveals much about his or her character as well as personality. We are able to see the inward emotions of people through an outward expression on their face. Likewise, we can easily recognize a person by simply looking at his or her face. That’s why we can roughly say that one’s face represents the whole individual.

To most Biblical writers, a person’s face could represent the entire person. With an understanding of this, all of God’s people were called to “seek his face always” (Psalm 105:4). Note that we must not seek God’s face only when we’ve abandoned Him. There are times when we neglect Him or give His first place to other Earthly things in our lives. There are also times when one feels the need to draw closer to God. All these instances require us to seek God’s face. It is rather unfortunate that God’s Holy Character is often obscured by our sinful human nature and fleshly desires. This makes up for another strong reason why we should seek God’s face continually. It is important to understand here that God desires to be our companion in every situation of life.

What does the Scripture say about Seeking God’s Face?

The Scripture helps us to understand that seeking God’s face is drawing closer to Him. If we draw closer to God, He will also draw closer to us as. James 4:8 says, “Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.” The Scripture further tells us that when we approach God in prayer, we are seeking His face as Psalm 24:3–6 says, “Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. They will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.”

Let no one deceive you with something contrary to the fact that the true nature of worship is to seek God’s face. As believers, our lives should be devoted to seeking God’s presence and favor. In His favor, all our other needs are provided. Also, we benefit from His special gift of Eternal Life that comes through Jesus Christ. Anyone who Believes, Sincerely Repents, and obeys the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ is set apart to benefit from this special gift. Such a person is Saved from the Fire of Hell. Psalm 63:1–3 says, “O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; …”
