There are many Bible Verses About Temptation worth knowing by all followers of Jesus Christ. The Bible tell us that we are bound to face temptations. Remember that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in the flesh was subjected to temptation. If our master was subjected to temptation, what more of us? 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps His promise, and He will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; all the time that you are put to the test, He will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.” Note that there is none that is immune to temptations. That is why we should avoid the feeling that the world is bearing in on us alone.
Temptation is an important aspect in boosting the spiritual growth of a Christian. Remember that Christ Himself was tempted: “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15). With this in mind, one might ask, “where do temptations come from?” To start, we’ll say that temptations do not come from God, although He does allow them. James 1:13 says, “For God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.” In the first chapter of the Biblical Book of Job, we clearly see God allowing Satan to tempt Job, but with restrictions. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us to be on our guard because Satan is roaming on the Earth like a Lion, seeking who to devour.
Bible Verses About Temptation
As followers of Christ, we’ve been called to resist Satan with all our strength till he flees from us (1 Peter 5:9). Do not be deceived by entertaining the feeling that you are the only one experiencing Satan’s attacks. All Christians experience these very attacks. Luckily enough, God is our strength in standing firm in the midst of trials till the end without failing in our obedience and love for His commands. From the different Bible verses on temptation, we can deduce that temptations come from Satan. According to James 1:14, temptations originate from within us as well. That is, we are tempted when we are “carried away and enticed by our own lust.” There are times when we allow ourselves to think certain thoughts, allow ourselves to go to places we should not go, and take lustful decisions that get us trapped in the midst of temptation.
Knowing that temptation is part of our Christian journey, one might ask, “how do we resist temptation?” To understand what it takes to resist temptation as a Christian, we must return to the example of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness by Satan (Matthew 4:1-11). It is important to understand here that each of Satan’s temptations was met with the same answer: “It is written,” followed by Scripture. If Jesus Christ, the beloved Son of God used the Word of God to effectively end the temptations – which we know always works because after three failed efforts, “the Devil left him” (Matthew 4:11) – how much more do we need this very Word of God to resist our own temptations?
What does the Scriptures say about Temptation and how we can overcome it?
The Scriptures tell us that when it comes to resisting temptations, it is important to note that all our own efforts to resist will be weak and ineffective unless they are empowered by the Holy Spirit through the constant reading, studying, and meditating on the word. It is by equipping ourselves with what God says in His Word that we are “transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2), and empowered by the Holy Spirit to successfully resist temptations from the enemy. It is worth pointing out that there is no other weapon against temptation except the “sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God” (Ephesians 6:17). In the same light, Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.”
Behold, if we allow our minds to be filled with the Latest TV shows, Music, and all that the Culture has to offer us, we will always be bombarded with messages and images that inevitably lead to sinful lusts. On the other hand, if our minds are filled with the Word of God, His majesty and holiness, the Compassion and Teachings of Christ, we’ll realize that our interest in the lusts of the world will diminish and even end up disappearing. Note that without the Word of God in our minds, we are open to anything that Satan wants to throw into our lives. God’s Word is the only means to guard our hearts and minds in order to maintain the sources of temptation sealed and kept away from us.
Facts about Temptation
Jesus Christ knew that His disciples will face temptations of all kinds and that is why He told them: “Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41). A good number of Christians would not want to openly jump into sin, yet we cannot completely resist falling into it because our flesh is not strong enough to resist. It is rather unfortunate that we usually place ourselves in situations or fill our minds with lustful passions, and such leads us into sin. That is why the Bible calls on us to pray without ceasing. We are to pray at all times asking God through Jesus Christ to help us in doing His Will and staying away from sin.
In Christ, we need to renew our minds (Romans 12:1-2) through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. A mind renewal will prevent us from thinking the way the world does or walking through the same paths that the world walks. Proverbs 4:14-15 tells us, “Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not proceed in the way of evil men. Avoid it, do not pass by; Turn away from it and pass on.” We should avoid the path of the world that leads to temptations because our flesh is weak. Matthew 5:29 says, “If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw if from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” It sounds severe because sin is severe.

And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out.
