Discover the Ways Jesus Gives You Abundant Life. Speaking in John 10:10, Jesus said “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Unlike a thief, our Lord Jesus Christ does not come for selfish reasons. That is, He comes to give and not to take. Behold, He comes for us to have a meaningful, prosperous, joyous, and eternal life. This life is one that we receive at the moment we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. In the Greek language, the word “abundant” is perisson, meaning “exceedingly, very highly, beyond measure, more, superfluous, a quantity so abundant as to be considerably more than what one would expect or anticipate.”
Fascinatingly, Jesus Christ promises us a life far better than what we could ever imagine, a concept reminiscent of 1 Corinthians 2:9: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” Likewise, Apostle Paul tells us that God Almighty is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, and He does it by His power, one that is at work within us if we belong to Him (Ephesians 3:20). But before we begin to have visions of unimaginable prosperity, worldwide cruises, expensive cars, and more money than we can handle, we need to pause and think about what our Lord Jesus teaches about this abundant life.
Ways Jesus Gives You Abundant Life
The Bible clearly tells us that prestige, wealth, power, and position in this world are not God’s priority for us (1 Corinthians 1:26-29). In terms of academic, economic, and social status, most Christians do not come from the privileged classes. If this is so, then, abundant life does not consist of an abundance of material things. If that were the case, Jesus Christ would have been the wealthiest of men. But just the opposite is true (Matthew 8:20). The Bible teaches that abundant life is eternal life, a life that begins the moment that we come to Christ and receive Him as Savior, and unfolds throughout all eternity. The Biblical definition of life – specifically eternal life – is provided by Jesus Himself: “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3).
Surprisingly, Jesus’ definition of life does not make mention of length of days, prosperity, health, occupation, or family. In fact, the only thing it does mention is knowledge of God, which is the key to a truly abundant life. However, what is abundant life? The first thing worth noting here is that by abundance, we mean spiritual abundance and not material abundance. As a matter of fact, God is not overly concerned with the physical circumstances of our lives. Behold, God reassures us that we need not worry about what we’ll eat or wear (Matthew 6:25-32; Philippians 4:19). As Christians, it is important to understand that physical blessings may or may not be part of a God-centered life; neither our wealth nor our poverty is a sure indication of our standing with God.
What The Scriptures Say About Abundance?
The Scriptures make us understand that King Solomon had all the material blessings available to a man yet found it all to be meaningless (Ecclesiastes 5:10-15). On the other hand, Apostle Paul was content in whatever physical circumstances he found himself in (Philippians 4:11-12). Interestingly, eternal life, the life that a Christian is truly concerned with, is not determined by duration but by a relationship with God. This is the reason why, once we are converted and receive the Holy Spirit, we are said to have eternal life already (1 John 5:11-13), though not, of course, in its fullness. Do not mistake the length of life on earth with abundant life because they are not synonymous. Always have in mind that a Christian’s life revolves around “grow[ing] in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).
The Scriptures teach that the abundant life is a continual process of learning, maturing, and practicing, as well as failing, recovering, enduring, adjusting, and overcoming, because, in our present state, “we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror” (1 Corinthians 13:12). A day will come when we will see God face to face and we will know Him completely just as we will be known completely (1 Corinthians 13:12). We will no longer struggle with sin and doubt. This will be the ultimately fulfilled abundant life through Christ. As Christians, it is important to revolutionize our perspective on abundant life (Romans 12:2). Just as we become new creations when we accept Christ in our lives, our understanding of “abundance” should also be renewed (2 Corinthians 5:17). True abundant life is not an abundance of “stuff” but of love, joy, peace, and other fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)

1) Jesus gives us hope in abundance – Psalm 147:10-11
Psalm 147:10-11 says, “His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.“
2) Jesus fights for us abundantly – Deuteronomy 20:4
Deuteronomy 20:4 says, “… for the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.”

How Do We Live In God’s Abundance?
It is important for Christians to have an abundance mindset. And to do so, you’ll need to change the way you view God. Remember that from the very beginning, God designed creation to live in abundance. Behold, He created the world and declared it good. He shows generosity towards us. Luke 12 clearly informs us that God desires abundant life for us filled with love, generosity, and grace. Likewise, Jesus Christ came to give us abundant and satisfying life. He is the living water that always satisfies. Christ quenches our thirst and fills us up with His grace, love, and mercy. Operating in a place of abundance is acknowledging that you truly believe in God’s goodness and providence. Holding to abundance is believing that God is working for your good. Following this, no matter what is taken from you, your faith will not waver.
1) Living in God’s abundant love
We live in abundance when we live loved. That is, we understand that Jesus’ love is abundant. Knowing this means that all of the things that are a part of the scarcity mindset might be taken away but we know that Jesus’ love is unwavering. Jesus’ love is steadfast so we don’t have to be scared that it would be taken away.
2) Living in God’s abundant grace
God’s grace is abundant. Fascinatingly, Jesus Christ came into the world so that believers could have real, eternal life – more and better life than we could have ever dreamed of. Christ died on the Cross at Calvary so that we could inherit his life-giving gift of redemption. Today, we have access to God’s unending grace because of Jesus’ sacrifice. 1 Timothy 1 portrays Paul as not deserving of God’s grace but he received it anyway. God saw Paul fit enough to lavish upon him the all-abundant, all-sufficient, rich, and undeserving grace. Truthfully speaking, God’s grace is never lacking in purpose. Because of God’s grace, you can be used as an example to those who would believe in Him for eternal life (1 Timothy 1:14).
3) Living in God’s abundant goodness
God has abundant goodness at all times and stores it for those who love Him. Behold, the Lord God Almighty has enough to share with everyone. He takes good care of His people. He knows their needs and meets them at the right time. God gives us life in empty, broken places. He restores and rebuilds. He is willing and ready to do more than we could ever imagine. When the Israelites were in the wilderness, the Lord God Almighty ordered them to gather daily only the manna that they needed, anything more than a day’s rations would go to spoil. Following this, God promised to provide for them on a daily basis. That’s why we must cultivate and maintain a strong faith in God even in the midst of trials, tribulation, hardship, and suffering. He knows our needs and will certainly provide them at the right time.
Anointed Prayer For Abundance
The Bible tells us, and we know without a doubt that Jesus Christ died on the Cross at Calvary for our sins so that we may live an abundant life in Him. Thanks to His Sacrifice, we have direct access to the Father. We can call His Father, Our Father. We can humbly come before Him and request anything. Christ told us that if we knock the door will be opened (Matthew 7:7-8). It is with this in mind that you should actively meditate as you make the following prayer for abundance:
Lord Almighty, I humbly come before you today. May you locate me in your mercy and favor. I’m thankful that you sent Jesus Christ to take my place on the Cross at Calvary so that I might live a life of abundance in Him. I confess that I have been trying hard on a daily basis to find things in this world to bring me comfort. But they are not working because they only temporarily satisfy. Jesus Christ is the only one who truly satisfies my longing heart. Lord, I thank you for saving me from sin and death. May my eyes be fixed on your love, grace, and goodness. Father, thank you for giving me a fulfilled and abundant life in Christ. Thank you for always providing for my needs and showing me the path that leads to your Kingdom. I make this prayer in Jesus’ name, Amen.
