What Does The Bible Say About Rebirth? In John 3:3-8 – “Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Here, we are talking about spiritual rebirth which is the entrance requirement for God’s Kingdom. Without experiencing a new birth, it is impossible to enter God’s Kingdom. The Scripture is clear on this fact just as we previously read from John 3:3-8. Truth be told, Eternal Life begins at the moment of spiritual rebirth. Let’s support this spiritual truth be reading from John 3:36 – “And all who trust Him—God’s Son—to save them have eternal life; those who don’t believe and obey Him shall never see heaven, but the wrath of God remains upon them.” When a person Believes, Sincerely Repents, and starts obeying the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ, he/she is reborn.
What Does The Bible Say About Rebirth?
It is by receiving Christ that we are born again. John 1:12-13 says, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” Spiritual rebirth means dying to your old life. Romans 7:4 says, “Your ‘husband,’ your master, used to be the Jewish law; but you ‘died,’ as it were, with Christ on the cross; and since you are ‘dead,’ you are no longer ‘married to the law,’ and it has no more control over you. Then you came back to live again when Christ did and are a new person. And now you are ‘married,’ so to speak, to the one who rose from the dead, so that you can produce good fruit, …”
Spiritual rebirth is such that it brings changes in our lives and goals. 1 John 3:9 says, “The person who has been born into God’s family does not make a practice of sinning because now God’s life is in him; so he can’t keep on sinning, for this new life has been born into him and controls him—he has been born again.” It is important to understand here that in Christ, we are newly created. Let’s support this point by reading in the Bible from 2 Corinthians 5:17 – ” Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” In other words, we are reborn through the Holy Spirit and adopted by God.
What does the Scripture say about Rebirth?
There is much that has been said in the Scripture about rebirth or being born again into God’s Family. The Holy Spirit is the Power of God to bring into us New Life through Christ. That is, we are born again through the Holy Spirit that convinces us about the truth on Jesus Christ and adopted by God. It was with an understanding of this that Apostle Paul wrote Romans 8:15-17 – “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
In Christ, we have God as our Father by faith. Hence, we can overcome the world because we are not part of it and victory was long given to us by Christ on the Cross at Calvary. 1 John 5:4 says, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” All those who are born again can rejoice in this victory. The word “born again” literally means “born from above.” It brings a change of heart. We can as well refer to it as spiritual transformation. Being born again is an act of God whereby Eternal Life is imparted d to the person who believes (Titus 3:5; 2 Corinthians 5:17; 1 Peter 1:3; 1 John 2:29; 3:9; 4:7; 5:1-4, 18). Being born again carries the idea of “becoming children of God” through faith in Jesus Christ ” (John 1:12, 13).
More on what the Scripture says about being born again
Still on what the Bible says about rebirth, one might logically ask, “why does a person need to be reborn?” Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 2:1 – “And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins.” In addition, he wrote in Romans 3:23 saying, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Hence, we can say without doubt that sinners are spiritually “dead”; when they obtain God’s special gift of Eternal Life through Jesus Christ, the Bible likens it to rebirth. Behold, only those who are born again have their sins forgiven and are in communion with God through Christ.
Another pretty nice question is that to know how all these things come to be. Ephesians 2:8-9 states, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” Salvation comes through this new birth or spiritual renewal that we are talking about. It is obtained by fully trusting in Jesus Christ, the One who paid the penalty of sin when he died on the cross. Inline with what the Bible says about rebirth, anyone who is in Christ is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Prayer to accept and welcome Jesus Christ into your life
The Holy Spirit is at work convincing more souls into God’s Kingdom on a daily basis. Jesus said that He stands knocking at the door of your heart and if you open, He will enter and give you life. John 1:12-13 says, “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God” It is in this light that we want to present a short prayer of repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior:
God Almighty, I know that I have sinned against you and I’m not worthy to be in your presence. I am aware of the fact that I deserve punishment for all my evil and wicked ways. But Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve on the Cross at Calvary so that in Him, I could be forgiven. I believe in Him and accept Him into my life with faith that my sins are forgiven and I am a new creature in Him. Father, thank you for the grace you have shown me through Jesus Christ by blessing me with the gift of Eternal Life.
