What Does The Bible Say About Heart?

What Does The Bible Say About Heart? The answer to this question will definitely boost your spiritual growth and take you into a higher level of walk with Christ. However, it is important to understand here that this piece of write-up is not about the heart as a vital organ, a muscle responsible for pumping blood all through the body. It is neither concerned about philosophical, romantic, or literal definitions of the heart. Rather, our piece of write-up is focused on what the Bible has to say about the heart. The Bible which is made-up of the Old Testament and the New Testament mentions the heart almost 1,000 times. One might ask the definition of the heart according to the Bible. According to the Bible, the heart is that spiritual part of us that our emotions and desires dwell.

From the above definition of heart, we can say that, since God has emotions and desires, He, too, can be said to have a “heart.” Behold brethren, we have a heart because God does. We are told in the Scriptures that David was a man “after God’s heart” (Acts 13:22). We are also told that God blesses His people with leaders who know and follow His heart (Jeremiah 3:15; 1 Samuel 2:35). The human heart is naturally evil, deceitful, and treacherous. Let’s support this by reading from Jeremiah 17:9 – “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” The fall of man in the Garden of Eden was one that affected us at the deepest level; our emotions, mind, and desires have all been tainted by sin.

What Does The Bible Say About Heart?

What the Scriptures say about Heart

The scriptures say that we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). This is to say that sin has affected our hearts. And because our hearts have been affected by sin, our emotions, thoughts, and feelings have also been affected. That’s why Apostle Paul talks of the renewal of the mind by the Holy Spirit within those who truly want to worship God in Spirit and Truth (Romans 12:2). Just as our minds our renewed, our hearts must be renewed too. For the scriptures say that believers go after the heart of their master and savior, Jesus Christ. It was to free us from the power of sin and its reward which is death that God sent Christ. He came and took our place on the Cross at Calvary. He became the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the believers.

Today, anyone who Believes, Sincerely Repents, and obeys the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ is given Eternal Life in God’s presence. Although we may not always understand our hearts at all times, God does. The Bible says that He “knows the Secrets of the heart” (Psalm 44:21). The New Testament portrays Jesus Christ as the Son of God who knew all men and what was in their hearts. We can read this from John 2:24-25 – Jesus “knew all men, and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.” God is able to judge mankind righteously thanks to His knowledge about the human heart. Let’s support this truth be reading from Jeremiah 17:10 – “I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.”

What Jesus Christ taught about the Heart

Jesus Christ was much concerned about the human heart that He Himself spoke and taught about it. Let’s hear from Him in  Mark 7:21-23 – “From within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man unclean.” This is a clear indication that our biggest problem with sin is not external but internal. Behold, what is manifested outside was first conceived from within. That’s why we should be more focus on changing or renewing our minds in Christ. Renewing the internal will eventually lead to the manifestation of good external fruits. In His goodness, God has created a new heart within us (Ezekiel 36:26; Psalm 51:10). A heart that goes after His will and finds salvation in Christ Jesus who offers righteousness (Romans 10:10).
