The Pharisees in Jesus’ time refused to see the truth before them and rather chose to relentlessly pursue acts of obedience to the law, thereby becoming self-righteous, and they believed that they could obtain God’s special gift of Eternal Life in Heaven because of what they had done. By so doing, they considered themselves worthy before God, who owed them a reward. However, the Scripture tells us that without Jesus Christ, even our best, most righteous works are as “filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). Jesus, the Law, and Moses

The Pharisees were more into a form of hypocrisy in obeying the “Letter of the Law” while actively violating its Spirit.
