There are many Bible Verses About Resurrection worth knowing by all followers of Christ. Christians strongly recognize the Resurrection of Jesus Christ as the foremost claim of Christianity. Apostle Paul referred to the Resurrection as one of “first importance” because it points to another important spiritual truth for you and me who are mere human beings. Behold, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ demonstrated the Power and Intention of God to resurrect all of us someday. By raising from the dead, Jesus Christ did not only demonstrate God’s Power of Resurrection but also His Sovereign Power to provide all of us with Eternal or Everlasting Life in His Presence.
Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 says, “But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.” In addition, John 3:16 says, “For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have eternal life.” Today, anyone who Believes in Jesus Christ, Sincerely Repents, and starts to obey His Teachings is given Eternal Life and saved from the Fire of Hell. It is rather unfortunate that some of us, as Christians, form our notions of the afterlife from contemporary descriptions found in popular movies, stories, and books, rather than from the Biblical record.
Bible Verses About Resurrection
By abandoning the Scriptures and sticking to popular books and movies that talk about after death, we end up forgetting that our lives after we die will include a resurrected body. It is sad to perceive that contrary to what the Scripture says, many in our culture envision the next life as some sort of purely spiritual (non-physical existence). The truth is that the Bible describes our experience in the afterlife differently. It tells us that we will receive resurrected bodies. That is, we will live in Eternity with New Resurrection Bodies. Both the Old Testament and the New Testament affirm that our souls will be reunited with our bodies in the afterlife.
Isaiah 26:19 says, “Your dead will live; their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, for your dew is as the dew of the dawn, and the earth will give birth to the departed spirits.” Interesting to know is the fact that our resurrection has nothing to do with how “good” we are or our relationship with Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that both those who are going to be with God and those who are going to be separated from God will be resurrected. Let’s support this spiritual truth by reading from Daniel 12:2 – “And many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt.”
What does the Scripture say about Resurrection?
The Scripture says much about resurrection (Isaiah 26:19 and Daniel 12:2). Although these Old Testament Scriptures seem clear on the issue of resurrection, there were some Jews, even during Jesus’ time, who did not believe they would be resurrected in the next life after this one. The Holy Gospel describes an encounter between Jesus Christ and some Sadducees who did not believe in the resurrection of the dead (Matthew 22:29-32, Mark 12:24-27 and Luke 20:34-38). The Scripture clearly tells us that “the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question” (Mark 12:18). In responding to this question, Jesus told them that they were mistaken about their understanding of the resurrection, and were “in error because (they) do not know the Scriptures or the power of God” (Mark 12:24).
Still in addressing the question that the Sadducees brought about resurrection, Jesus reminded them that God has the Power to do anything that He likes, including raising the dead. In fact Jesus said much about the resurrection of the dead as we can read from John 5:25, 28-29 – “I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live… Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out-those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.” It seems that this information was up-to some extent startling to all the people who first heard it (“Do not be amazed at this”).
Facts About Resurrection
The teachings of Jesus on resurrection (John 5:25, 28-29) are still surprising to many of us because we seldom think of the afterlife as physical in addition to spiritual. Whatever the case, it still remains the clear teaching of Jesus about resurrection (also read John 6:39-40, 44, 54). Most Biblical writers also affirmed the resurrection of the dead. Apostle Paul clearly declared that His belief in the resurrection of the body actually separated him from the Jews of his days. Let’s support this by reading from Acts 23:6 – “Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, “My brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee. I stand on trial because of my hope in the resurrection of the dead.””
Apostle Paul later said in his writings that a day was coming, sometime after we are dead, when each of us will receive a new, everlasting resurrection body. We can read this from 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 – “Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed- in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.” One might likely ask, “when will we receive the resurrection bodies?” Biblical authors make it clear in their writings that we will receive resurrection bodies when Jesus returns to Earth. As Jesus was ascending, two angels told the first believers that He would return with a body.
More facts about Resurrection
Acts 1:10-11 says, “They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”” Let’s hear from Jesus Himself by reading from John 5:25, 28-29 – “I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live… Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out-those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.”
Jesus told His followers that a time is coming when the dead will hear His voice and be resurrected. Many of us may die before the return of Jesus but we can be sure that when He returns, He will gather all those who had placed their faith in Him. Matthew 24:30-31 says, “At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.” The truth is that all those who are in Christ will enjoy eternity with their resurrection bodies.
