Bible Verses About The Holy Spirit

The Best Bible Verses About The Holy Spirit were divinely revealed to keep us within the truth. On the evening before the day Jesus Christ would pay the penalty for all the sins of mankind (the ultimate sacrifice that washes all the sins of those who come to Him in faith) on the cross at Calvary, He told His followers what would happen to Him. In simple words and parables, Christ explained the sacrifice that He was going to do for the whole world (a sacrifice which benefits those who believe in Him). For it was out of an unconditional and immeasurable love for the world that God gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to be sacrificed on the Cross at Calvary as an atonement for sin so that everyone who believes in him would not die but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

Today, anyone who Believes, Sincerely Repents, and obeys the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ is saved from the Fire of Hell and offered Eternal Life in God’s Holy Presence. When Jesus Christ had finished observing the Passover (which is still carried out today in His memory), He told His disciples that He would answer their prayers asked in His Name. Christ reminded them to show their love for Him by keeping His Commandments (John 14:13-15). He then proceeded with a promise to all His followers whom He did not want to leave behind as orphans as we can read from John 14:16-17 – “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you, and will be in you

Bible Verses About The Holy Spirit

What the Scriptures say about the Holy Spirit

With His own words, Jesus Christ said: “I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you” (John 16:7). Parakletos is the Greek word translated here as “Helper.” In an advanced technical form, this Greek word has a legal dimension; it portrays one who would be an advocate. On the other hand, the word in its wider context speaks of comfort, guidance, counsel, and protection. Jesus also speaks of the Holy Spirit as “The Spirit of Truth” (John 14:17; John 16:13). It with the help of the Holy Spirit that we can talk of truly worshiping God in Spirit and Truth (John 4:23-24).

The Holy Spirit is a Divine Person because He possesses a mind, will, and emotions. He thinks and knows (1 Corinthians 2:10), and He can be grieved  (Ephesians 4:30). The Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf before God Almighty (Romans 8:26-27). In addition, the Holy Spirit makes decisions according to His Will (1 Corinthians 12:7-11). Hence, we can say without doubt that the Holy Spirit is God, the third person of the Holy Trinity. Hence, we can talk of God the Father Almighty, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. As God, the Holy Spirit can genuinely function as the comforter and counselor that Jesus Christ had promised to pray and ask God the Father Almighty to send to His followers.

Who is the Holy Spirit?

Behold, there are many misconceptions about the identity of the Holy Spirit. Some people simply view the Holy Spirit as a mystical force. Other people perceive the Holy Spirit as the impersonal power that God makes available to all true followers of His beloved Son, Jesus Christ. However, what does the Bible truly says about the identity of the Holy Spirit? In a simple language, the Bible clearly declares that the Holy Spirit is God. In addition, the Bible also tells us that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person, a being with a mind, will, and emotions. The spiritual truth that the Holy Spirit is God can be found in many scriptures, including Acts 5:3-4. In this Scripture, we perceive Apostle Peter confronting Ananias as to why he lied to the Holy Spirit. Apostle Peter further tells Ananias that he had “not lied to men but to God.”

Here, Apostle Peter informs us that lying to the Holy Spirit is lying to God. Our believe that the Holy Spirit is God can still be supported by the fact that the Holy Spirit possess the character of God. For example, His omnipresence in Psalm 139:7-8 – “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” The characteristic of omniscience is also attributed to the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 2:10-11 – “But God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.”

Five Truths About The Holy Spirit

1. The Holy Spirit is a unique Person and not simply a Power or Influence

It is important to understand here that the Holy Spirit is spoken of as “He” and not “it.” By listening carefully in your congregation or Christian gathering, chances are high that you’ll hear the Holy Spirit referenced in terms of the neuter. Behold, you may even catch yourself doing it. If you do, I hope you’ll bite your tongue immediately and then realize yourself in order to turn back to God. It is time for you to understand once and for all that the Spirit of God, the Third Person of the Trinity, is a personal. The Holy Spirit may be grieved grieved (Eph. 4:30), resisted (Acts 7:51), and/or quenched in terms of exercising His Will in a person’s life (1 Thess. 5:19).

2. The Holy Spirit is One with both the Father and the Son

Theologians put it this way, the Holy Spirit is both co-equal and co-eternal. From the Upper Room Discourse between Jesus Christ and His Apostles, we realize that it was both the Father and the Son who would send the Holy Spirit (John 14:16; 16:7). And behold, the Spirit came and since then, He has been acting on the behalf of the Father and the Son. Remember that Christ said the Holy Spirit will remain with us for all times (John 14;16).

3. The Holy Spirit was the Agent of Creation

Genesis 1:1-2 says,  “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Here, the Hebrew word translated as “Spirit” is “Ruach,” which can also be perceived as “breath.” Hence, we can talk of ruach elohim, “the Breath of the Almighty.” It is this breath which happens to be the Agent of Creation.

4. The Holy Spirit is also the Agent of God’s New Creation in Christ Jesus

Behold, the Holy Spirit is the author of the new birth in Christ our Lord and Savior. Let’s hear what Jesus Christ Himself says about this matter by reading from John 3:5 – “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”

5. The Holy Spirit is the Author of the Scriptures

It is without doubt that the Spirit of God is the Author of the Scriptures. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God. …Theopneustos is the Greek word behind this phrase from Apostle Paul to his spiritual son, Timothy. Theopneustos means “God-breathed.” In creation, the Spirit releases the power of God into action. For redemption, the same Spirit also releases the Power of God for the conviction of sin and the need for repentance in the hearts of men and women. Since creation, the Spirit of God has been act work teaching and revealing God’s will to mankind. 2 Peter 1:21 says, “No prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” In addition, God spoke to Prophet Jeremiah saying “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth” (Jeremiah 1:9).
