What Does The Bible Say About The Beginning Of Life? Adam and Eve were the first humans, according to the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic religions. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are religions that do not only hold to the fact that Adam and Eve were the first humans but also teach that all humans have descended from them. As clearly stated in the Bible, Adam and Eve were created by God to take care of His creation, populate the earth, and have a relationship with Him. Behold, their very names are indicative of their roles. Adam comes from the Hebrew Adomah, meaning “man.” Eve is from the Hebrew for “life.” The complete Biblical account of Adam and Eve can be found in Genesis 1:26 to Genesis 5:5. The Bible teaches us that on the sixth day of creation, God created all the land animals, and humans.

The story of Adam and Eve is revealed in Genesis chapters 2 and 3. Their creation is the focus of chapter 2 with their fall and punishment in chapter 3. We’ll advise you to get a Bible and read these two chapters in the book of Genesis in order to get a full understanding of the story of creation. The basic creation story is found in Genesis 1 and 2, with the account of what happened in the Garden of Eden in chapter 3. Genesis 1 begins before the existence of anything except God Himself. God’s revelation of Himself and His will for mankind is the beginning of the creation story. In this beginning, God created everything in the universe (Genesis 1:1). This includes all the heavenly bodies (including every star and planet), as well as everything on the Earth.

What The Scriptures Say About Creation

While the triune nature of God is not explicit in the Genesis account, God does reveal an “us” within the Godhead (Genesis 1:26). The Spirit is active in creation (Genesis 1:2) as is Christ (John 1:1–3; Colossians 1:15–17). In the six days of creation, God formed light, the universe, and the earth (day 1); the sky and the atmosphere (day 2); dry land and all plant life (day 3); the stars and heavenly bodies, including the sun and moon (day 4); birds and water creatures (day 5); and all the land animals and man (day 6). It is important to note that mankind is special above all other creatures because he bears the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and has the responsibility to steward and subdue the earth (Genesis 1:28). All of creation was completed in six days in all its vast array and wondrous beauty.

God announced that His creation was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Genesis 2 sees the ending of God’s creative work and gives a more detailed account of the creation of man. The seventh day is marked by God’s resting. It is worth pointing out that the rest does not suggest that God was tired; rather, His “rest” was simply a cessation of work. Behold, God was done and the universe was just as He wanted it to be. God’s six days of work, followed by a day of no work, establish a pattern of taking one day in seven for rest and sets the number of days in the week still in use today. Amazingly, the keeping of the Sabbath later became a distinguishing mark of God’s chosen people (Exodus 20:8–11.)

God Created Adam

The Bible teaches us that God created man in His image. He formed man from the dust of the ground. While the Bible does not say that God used His hands to mold the dust of the ground into the shape of a man, it does indicate that this was a much more active manner of creation than the rest of what God had made. Previously, God had only spoken the objects into existence. But God formed man and then breathed life into him in an apparently personal way. The very first man was named Adam. God brought all the animals to him to be named. Then God said: “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” God knew that Adam was lonely and decided to bring him companionship. Man needs companionship and God has made provisions for it.

God Created Eve

The Bible informs us that God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and then He performed the first surgery by cutting Adam open and forming a woman from his rip. Behold, God certainly did not need to do this but it is another of many interesting pictures in the creation story. Adam knew clearly that the woman was made from his own side. Genesis 2:23 says, Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Adam and Eve were more than just simple two creatures which God spoke into existence. They were made for God’s pleasure and were intimately connected to one another. This woman was named Eve.

God’s Command To Adam And Eve

The Almighty God gave Adam and Eve a beautiful garden named Eden in which to live. They had all the fruits and vegetables they could possibly want to enjoy. Adam and Eve were to tend the garden and have dominion over it and the animals. Many people say that work is part of the curse that came as a result of man’s fall in the garden, but the actual curse is that work would be difficult and laborious. The Lord God gave Adam and Eve many beautiful plants and trees to enjoy for food. But God also gave them one three from which they were not to eat. This was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. God’s command to them was that if they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they would die.

The Fall Of Adam And Eve In The Garden Of Eden

The Bible clearly informs us that the Devil entered into a serpent and tempted Eve (Genesis 3:1). He successfully convinced Eve to doubt God’s Word. Satan told her that God knew that Eve would become enlightened and possess the same knowledge as God had if she ate from the fruit of the tree. Behold, this is similar to Satan’s temptation to man today – that he does not need God. Note that the fruit was beautiful and Satan was cunning. Eve fell to the temptation and took the fruit from the forbidden tree. Finding the fruit delicious, Eve took it to Adam for him to have a taste. Adam also ate from it. From the time Adam ate, their lives, and that of the future of humanity changed. Immediately, they knew they had done wrong. In other words, they knew they had disobeyed God and would be punished for their disobedience.

Adam And Eve Hid From God In The Garden Of Eden

As it was the Almighty God’s custom, He came to visit Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They tried to cover their nakedness with fig leaves. Their nakedness was something that they had never even noticed before. The Bible tells us that when they heard God coming, they hid from Him. God searched for them. Of course, we know without a single doubt that God is all-knowing. God was not looking for them because He did not know where they were, but to give Adam and Eve a chance to return to Him and acknowledge their sin.

God’s Punishment For Adam, Eve, And The Serpent

The Bible tells us that God spoke with Adam, Eve, and the Serpent. Each one had a specific punishment from God. God told Adam that His work would be hard. It would become toilsome (Genesis 3:17-19). God told the woman that she would bear children with great pain (Genesis 3:16). The Lord God intended that Adam and Eve would have children because He talked about man and woman leaving father and mother to get married (Genesis 2:24). Adam and Eve had no father or mother. Thus, it was a pronouncement for future generations that God fully intended to come with time. Eve’s punishment was that the bearing of children would be painful. God gave the Serpent the punishment of crawling on the ground and that he would be cursed more than any other creature (Genesis 3:14). Note that the punishment was given to the animal and not just to Satan.

To Satan, God said that he would be punished in the future by the promise God would give. God told Adam and Eve in the beginning that they would die on the day they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. One death was immediate. They were spiritually separated from God. However, their physical bodies continued to live. But they would not live forever as God apparently intended. They would become old, sick, and die. Adam, Eve, and the Serpent were put out of the Garden of Eden and the curse came not only on them but on the whole world. There were briers in the fields now. They had to provide for themselves with their own hands. Adam and Eve had many children (Genesis 4). Sadly, their firstborn son, Cain, killed their second son, Abel. Adam died at 930 years of age (Genesis 5:5).

God’s Great Promise

When speaking about the extent of Satan’s punishment, God said that the seed of the woman would come to destroy him. This seed was the promised Redeemer we read so much about in the Old Testament of the Bible. He was revealed in the New Testament to be Jesus Christ. Although Satan would bruise the Savior’s heel (a fatal wound) the Redeemer would crush Satan’s head (a mortal wound) (Genesis 3:15). As a way of showing His love and giving a sign of things to come, God sacrificed an animal for Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:21). It is worth noting that this slain animal was to represent future sacrifices and forgiveness by God (Genesis 3:21). The Bible makes us understand that God made clothes for Adam and Eve from an animal which shows God covering their sins with a substitutionary sacrifice.

Questions And Answers About Adam And Eve

Were Adam And Eve Saved?

The Bible does not specifically tell us whether Adam and Eve were saved. Adam and Eve were the only two human beings who knew about God before they became tainted with sin. Therefore, they likely still knew God better after their fall than any of us do today. Adam and Eve most definitely believed in and depended on God. Even after the fall, God continued to talk with Adam and Eve as well as provide for them. Behold, Adam and Eve knew of God’s promise that He would provide a Savior (Genesis 3:15). The Lord God Almighty made garments of skin for Adam and Eve after the fall (Genesis 3:21). Many Biblical scholars perceive this as the first animal sacrifice, foreshadowing the eventual death of Jesus Christ on the Cross for the sins of the world. With these facts at hand, it would seem that Adam and Eve were saved.

When Were Adam And Eve Created?

If the ages in Genesis chapter 5 and the Old Testament history are traced using a young-earth creationist view, Adam and Eve were likely created in approximately 4,000 BC. Nevertheless, other interpretations of Genesis have much broader ranges for that date.

How Many Children Did Adam And Eve Have?

The Bible does not give a specific number when talking about the children of Adam and Eve. What the Bible reveals is that Adam and Eve had Cain (Genesis 4:1), (Genesis 4:2), Seth (Genesis 4:25), and many other sons and daughters (Genesis 5:4). With likely hundreds of years of child-bearing capability, Adam and Eve likely had 50+ children in their lifetime.

Did Adam And Eve Have Belly Buttons/Navels?

A belly button/navel (or bellybutton) is formed by the umbilical cord that connects a baby in the womb to its mother. The Bible tells us that Adam and Eve were created directly by God, and so did not go through the normal birthing process. Following this, Adam and Eve would probably not have had belly buttons/navels.

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are religions that do not only hold to the fact that Adam and Eve were the first humans but also teach that all humans have descended from them. As clearly stated in the Bible, Adam and Eve were created by God to take care of His creation, populate the earth, and have a relationship with Him. Behold, their very names are indicative of their roles. Adam comes from the Hebrew Adomah, meaning “man.” Eve is from the Hebrew for “life.” The complete Biblical account of Adam and Eve can be found in Genesis 1:26 to Genesis 5:5. The Bible teaches us that on the sixth day of creation, God created all the land animals, and humans.

The story of Adam and Eve is revealed in Genesis chapters 2 and 3. Their creation is the focus of chapter 2 with their fall and punishment in chapter 3. What The Scriptures Say About Creation

While the triune nature of God is not explicit in the Genesis account, God does reveal an “us” within the Godhead (Genesis 1:26). The Spirit is active in creation (Genesis 1:2) as is Christ (John 1:1–3; Colossians 1:15–17). In the six days of creation, God formed light, the universe, and the earth (day 1); the sky and the atmosphere (day 2); dry land and all plant life (day 3); the stars and heavenly bodies, including the sun and moon (day 4); birds and water creatures (day 5); and all the land animals and man (day 6). It is important to note that mankind is special above all other creatures because he bears the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and has the responsibility to steward and subdue the earth (Genesis 1:28). All of creation was completed in six days in all its vast array and wondrous beauty.

God announced that His creation was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Genesis 2 sees the ending of God’s creative work and gives a more detailed account of the creation of man. The seventh day is marked by God’s resting. It is worth pointing out that the rest does not suggest that God was tired; rather, His “rest” was simply a cessation of work. Behold, God was done and the universe was just as He wanted it to be. God’s six days of work, followed by a day of no work, establish a pattern of taking one day in seven for rest and sets the number of days in the week still in use today. Amazingly, the keeping of the Sabbath later became a distinguishing mark of God’s chosen people (Exodus 20:8–11.)

God Created Adam

The Bible teaches us that God created man in His image. He formed man from the dust of the ground. While the Bible does not say that God used His hands to mold the dust of the ground into the shape of a man, it does indicate that this was a much more active manner of creation than the rest of what God had made. Previously, God had only spoken the objects into existence. But God formed man and then breathed life into him in an apparently personal way. The very first man was named Adam. God brought all the animals to him to be named. Then God said: “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” God knew that Adam was lonely and decided to bring him companionship. Man needs companionship and God has made provisions for it.

God Created Eve

The Bible informs us that God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and then He performed the first surgery by cutting Adam open and forming a woman from his rip. Behold, God certainly did not need to do this but it is another of many interesting pictures in the creation story. Adam knew clearly that the woman was made from his own side. Genesis 2:23 says, Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Adam and Eve were more than just simple two creatures which God spoke into existence. They were made for God’s pleasure and were intimately connected to one another. This woman was named Eve.

God’s Command To Adam And Eve

The Almighty God gave Adam and Eve a beautiful garden named Eden in which to live. They had all the fruits and vegetables they could possibly want to enjoy. Adam and Eve were to tend the garden and have dominion over it and the animals. Many people say that work is part of the curse that came as a result of man’s fall in the garden, but the actual curse is that work would be difficult and laborious. The Lord God gave Adam and Eve many beautiful plants and trees to enjoy for food. But God also gave them one three from which they were not to eat. This was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. God’s command to them was that if they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they would die.

The Fall Of Adam And Eve In The Garden Of Eden

The Bible clearly informs us that the Devil entered into a serpent and tempted Eve (Genesis 3:1). He successfully convinced Eve to doubt God’s Word. Satan told her that God knew that Eve would become enlightened and possess the same knowledge as God had if she ate from the fruit of the tree. Behold, this is similar to Satan’s temptation to man today – that he does not need God. Note that the fruit was beautiful and Satan was cunning. Eve fell to the temptation and took the fruit from the forbidden tree. Finding the fruit delicious, Eve took it to Adam for him to have a taste. Adam also ate from it. From the time Adam ate, their lives, and that of the future of humanity changed. Immediately, they knew they had done wrong. In other words, they knew they had disobeyed God and would be punished for their disobedience.

Adam And Eve Hid From God In The Garden Of Eden

As it was the Almighty God’s custom, He came to visit Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They tried to cover their nakedness with fig leaves. Their nakedness was something that they had never even noticed before. The Bible tells us that when they heard God coming, they hid from Him. God searched for them. Of course, we know without a single doubt that God is all-knowing. God was not looking for them because He did not know where they were, but to give Adam and Eve a chance to return to Him and acknowledge their sin.

God’s Punishment For Adam, Eve, And The Serpent

The Bible tells us that God spoke with Adam, Eve, and the Serpent. Each one had a specific punishment from God. God told Adam that His work would be hard. It would become toilsome (Genesis 3:17-19). God told the woman that she would bear children with great pain (Genesis 3:16). The Lord God intended that Adam and Eve would have children because He talked about man and woman leaving father and mother to get married (Genesis 2:24). Adam and Eve had no father or mother. Thus, it was a pronouncement for future generations that God fully intended to come with time. Eve’s punishment was that the bearing of children would be painful. God gave the Serpent the punishment of crawling on the ground and that he would be cursed more than any other creature (Genesis 3:14). Note that the punishment was given to the animal and not just to Satan.

To Satan, God said that he would be punished in the future by the promise God would give. God told Adam and Eve in the beginning that they would die on the day they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. One death was immediate. They were spiritually separated from God. However, their physical bodies continued to live. But they would not live forever as God apparently intended. They would become old, sick, and die. Adam, Eve, and the Serpent were put out of the Garden of Eden and the curse came not only on them but on the whole world. There were briers in the fields now. They had to provide for themselves with their own hands. Adam and Eve had many children (Genesis 4). Sadly, their firstborn son, Cain, killed their second son, Abel. Adam died at 930 years of age (Genesis 5:5).

God’s Great Promise

When speaking about the extent of Satan’s punishment, God said that the seed of the woman would come to destroy him. This seed was the promised Redeemer we read so much about in the Old Testament of the Bible. He was revealed in the New Testament to be Jesus Christ. Although Satan would bruise the Savior’s heel (a fatal wound) the Redeemer would crush Satan’s head (a mortal wound) (Genesis 3:15). As a way of showing His love and giving a sign of things to come, God sacrificed an animal for Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:21). It is worth noting that this slain animal was to represent future sacrifices and forgiveness by God (Genesis 3:21). The Bible makes us understand that God made clothes for Adam and Eve from an animal which shows God covering their sins with a substitutionary sacrifice.

Questions And Answers About Adam And Eve

Were Adam And Eve Saved?

The Bible does not specifically tell us whether Adam and Eve were saved. Adam and Eve were the only two human beings who knew about God before they became tainted with sin. Therefore, they likely still knew God better after their fall than any of us do today. Adam and Eve most definitely believed in and depended on God. Even after the fall, God continued to talk with Adam and Eve as well as provide for them. Behold, Adam and Eve knew of God’s promise that He would provide a Savior (Genesis 3:15). The Lord God Almighty made garments of skin for Adam and Eve after the fall (Genesis 3:21). Many Biblical scholars perceive this as the first animal sacrifice, foreshadowing the eventual death of Jesus Christ on the Cross for the sins of the world. With these facts at hand, it would seem that Adam and Eve were saved.

If the ages in Genesis chapter 5 and the Old Testament history are traced using a young-earth creationist view, Adam and Eve were likely created in approximately 4,000 BC. Nevertheless, other interpretations of Genesis have much broader ranges for that date.

What Does The Bible Say About The Origin Of Life? Adam and Eve were the first humans, according to the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic religions. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are religions that do not only hold to the fact that Adam and Eve were the first humans but also teach that all humans have descended from them. As clearly stated in the Bible, Adam and Eve were created by God to take care of His creation, populate the earth, and have a relationship with Him. Behold, their very names are indicative of their roles. Adam comes from the Hebrew Adomah, meaning “man.” Eve is from the Hebrew for “life.” The complete Biblical account of Adam and Eve can be found in Genesis 1:26 to Genesis 5:5. The Bible teaches us that on the sixth day of creation, God created all the land animals, and humans.

The story of Adam and Eve is revealed in Genesis chapters 2 and 3. Their creation is the focus of chapter 2 with their fall and punishment in chapter 3. We’ll advise you to get a Bible and read these two chapters in the book of Genesis in order to get a full understanding of the story of creation. The basic creation story is found in Genesis 1 and 2, with the account of what happened in the Garden of Eden in chapter 3. Genesis 1 begins before the existence of anything except God Himself. What The Scriptures Say About Creation

While the triune nature of God is not explicit in the Genesis account, God does reveal an “us” within the Godhead (Genesis 1:26). The Spirit is active in creation (Genesis 1:2) as is Christ (John 1:1–3; Colossians 1:15–17). In the six days of creation, God formed light, the universe, and the earth (day 1); the sky and the atmosphere (day 2); dry land and all plant life (day 3); the stars and heavenly bodies, including the sun and moon (day 4); birds and water creatures (day 5); and all the land animals and man (day 6). It is important to note that mankind is special above all other creatures because he bears the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and has the responsibility to steward and subdue the earth (Genesis 1:28). All of creation was completed in six days in all its vast array and wondrous beauty.

God announced that His creation was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Genesis 2 sees the ending of God’s creative work and gives a more detailed account of the creation of man. The seventh day is marked by God’s resting. It is worth pointing out that the rest does not suggest that God was tired; rather, His “rest” was simply a cessation of work. Behold, God was done and the universe was just as He wanted it to be. God’s six days of work, followed by a day of no work, establish a pattern of taking one day in seven for rest and sets the number of days in the week still in use today. Amazingly, the keeping of the Sabbath later became a distinguishing mark of God’s chosen people (Exodus 20:8–11.)

God Created Adam

The Bible teaches us that God created man in His image. He formed man from the dust of the ground. While the Bible does not say that God used His hands to mold the dust of the ground into the shape of a man, it does indicate that this was a much more active manner of creation than the rest of what God had made. Previously, God had only spoken the objects into existence. But God formed man and then breathed life into him in an apparently personal way. The very first man was named Adam. God brought all the animals to him to be named. Then God said: “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” God knew that Adam was lonely and decided to bring him companionship. Man needs companionship and God has made provisions for it.

God Created Eve

The Bible informs us that God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and then He performed the first surgery by cutting Adam open and forming a woman from his rip. Behold, God certainly did not need to do this but it is another of many interesting pictures in the creation story. Adam knew clearly that the woman was made from his own side. Genesis 2:23 says, Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Adam and Eve were more than just simple two creatures which God spoke into existence. They were made for God’s pleasure and were intimately connected to one another. This woman was named Eve.

God’s Command To Adam And Eve

The Almighty God gave Adam and Eve a beautiful garden named Eden in which to live. They had all the fruits and vegetables they could possibly want to enjoy. Adam and Eve were to tend the garden and have dominion over it and the animals. Many people say that work is part of the curse that came as a result of man’s fall in the garden, but the actual curse is that work would be difficult and laborious. The Lord God gave Adam and Eve many beautiful plants and trees to enjoy for food. But God also gave them one three from which they were not to eat. This was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. God’s command to them was that if they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they would die.

The Fall Of Adam And Eve In The Garden Of Eden

The Bible clearly informs us that the Devil entered into a serpent and tempted Eve (Genesis 3:1). He successfully convinced Eve to doubt God’s Word. Satan told her that God knew that Eve would become enlightened and possess the same knowledge as God had if she ate from the fruit of the tree. Behold, this is similar to Satan’s temptation to man today – that he does not need God. Note that the fruit was beautiful and Satan was cunning. Eve fell to the temptation and took the fruit from the forbidden tree. Finding the fruit delicious, Eve took it to Adam for him to have a taste. Adam also ate from it. From the time Adam ate, their lives, and that of the future of humanity changed. Immediately, they knew they had done wrong. In other words, they knew they had disobeyed God and would be punished for their disobedience.

Adam And Eve Hid From God In The Garden Of Eden

As it was the Almighty God’s custom, He came to visit Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They tried to cover their nakedness with fig leaves. Their nakedness was something that they had never even noticed before. The Bible tells us that when they heard God coming, they hid from Him. God searched for them. Of course, we know without a single doubt that God is all-knowing. God was not looking for them because He did not know where they were, but to give Adam and Eve a chance to return to Him and acknowledge their sin.

God’s Punishment For Adam, Eve, And The Serpent

The Bible tells us that God spoke with Adam, Eve, and the Serpent. Each one had a specific punishment from God. God told Adam that His work would be hard. It would become toilsome (Genesis 3:17-19). God told the woman that she would bear children with great pain (Genesis 3:16). The Lord God intended that Adam and Eve would have children because He talked about man and woman leaving father and mother to get married (Genesis 2:24). Adam and Eve had no father or mother. Thus, it was a pronouncement for future generations that God fully intended to come with time. Eve’s punishment was that the bearing of children would be painful. God gave the Serpent the punishment of crawling on the ground and that he would be cursed more than any other creature (Genesis 3:14). Note that the punishment was given to the animal and not just to Satan.

To Satan, God said that he would be punished in the future by the promise God would give. God told Adam and Eve in the beginning that they would die on the day they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. One death was immediate. They were spiritually separated from God. However, their physical bodies continued to live. But they would not live forever as God apparently intended. They would become old, sick, and die. Adam, Eve, and the Serpent were put out of the Garden of Eden and the curse came not only on them but on the whole world. There were briers in the fields now. They had to provide for themselves with their own hands. Adam and Eve had many children (Genesis 4). Sadly, their firstborn son, Cain, killed their second son, Abel. Adam died at 930 years of age (Genesis 5:5).

God’s Great Promise

When speaking about the extent of Satan’s punishment, God said that the seed of the woman would come to destroy him. This seed was the promised Redeemer we read so much about in the Old Testament of the Bible. He was revealed in the New Testament to be Jesus Christ. Although Satan would bruise the Savior’s heel (a fatal wound) the Redeemer would crush Satan’s head (a mortal wound) (Genesis 3:15). As a way of showing His love and giving a sign of things to come, God sacrificed an animal for Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:21). It is worth noting that this slain animal was to represent future sacrifices and forgiveness by God (Genesis 3:21). The Bible makes us understand that God made clothes for Adam and Eve from an animal which shows God covering their sins with a substitutionary sacrifice.

Questions And Answers About Adam And Eve

Were Adam And Eve Saved?

The Bible does not specifically tell us whether Adam and Eve were saved. Adam and Eve were the only two human beings who knew about God before they became tainted with sin. Therefore, they likely still knew God better after their fall than any of us do today. Adam and Eve most definitely believed in and depended on God. Even after the fall, God continued to talk with Adam and Eve as well as provide for them. Behold, Adam and Eve knew of God’s promise that He would provide a Savior (Genesis 3:15). The Lord God Almighty made garments of skin for Adam and Eve after the fall (Genesis 3:21). Many Biblical scholars perceive this as the first animal sacrifice, foreshadowing the eventual death of Jesus Christ on the Cross for the sins of the world. With these facts at hand, it would seem that Adam and Eve were saved.

When Were Adam And Eve Created?

If the ages in Genesis chapter 5 and the Old Testament history are traced using a young-earth creationist view, Adam and Eve were likely created in approximately 4,000 BC. Nevertheless, other interpretations of Genesis have much broader ranges for that date.

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are religions that do not only hold to the fact that Adam and Eve were the first humans but also teach that all humans have descended from them. As clearly stated in the Bible, Adam and Eve were created by God to take care of His creation, populate the earth, and have a relationship with Him. Behold, their very names are indicative of their roles. The Bible teaches us that on the sixth day of creation, God created all the land animals, and humans.

While the triune nature of God is not explicit in the Genesis account, God does reveal an “us” within the Godhead (Genesis 1:26). The Spirit is active in creation (Genesis 1:2) as is Christ (John 1:1–3; Colossians 1:15–17). In the six days of creation, God formed light, the universe, and the earth (day 1); the sky and the atmosphere (day 2); dry land and all plant life (day 3); the stars and heavenly bodies, including the sun and moon (day 4); birds and water creatures (day 5); and all the land animals and man (day 6). It is important to note that mankind is special above all other creatures because he bears the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and has the responsibility to steward and subdue the earth (Genesis 1:28). All of creation was completed in six days in all its vast array and wondrous beauty.

God announced that His creation was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Genesis 2 sees the ending of God’s creative work and gives a more detailed account of the creation of man. The seventh day is marked by God’s resting. It is worth pointing out that the rest does not suggest that God was tired; rather, His “rest” was simply a cessation of work. Behold, God was done and the universe was just as He wanted it to be. God’s six days of work, followed by a day of no work, establish a pattern of taking one day in seven for rest and sets the number of days in the week still in use today. Amazingly, the keeping of the Sabbath later became a distinguishing mark of God’s chosen people (Exodus 20:8–11.)

God Created Adam

The Bible teaches us that God created man in His image. He formed man from the dust of the ground. While the Bible does not say that God used His hands to mold the dust of the ground into the shape of a man, it does indicate that this was a much more active manner of creation than the rest of what God had made. Previously, God had only spoken the objects into existence. But God formed man and then breathed life into him in an apparently personal way. The very first man was named Adam. God brought all the animals to him to be named. Then God said: “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” God knew that Adam was lonely and decided to bring him companionship. Man needs companionship and God has made provisions for it.

God Created Eve

The Bible informs us that God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and then He performed the first surgery by cutting Adam open and forming a woman from his rip. Behold, God certainly did not need to do this but it is another of many interesting pictures in the creation story. Adam knew clearly that the woman was made from his own side. Genesis 2:23 says, Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Adam and Eve were more than just simple two creatures which God spoke into existence. They were made for God’s pleasure and were intimately connected to one another. This woman was named Eve.

God’s Command To Adam And Eve

The Almighty God gave Adam and Eve a beautiful garden named Eden in which to live. They had all the fruits and vegetables they could possibly want to enjoy. Adam and Eve were to tend the garden and have dominion over it and the animals. Many people say that work is part of the curse that came as a result of man’s fall in the garden, but the actual curse is that work would be difficult and laborious. The Lord God gave Adam and Eve many beautiful plants and trees to enjoy for food. But God also gave them one three from which they were not to eat. This was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. God’s command to them was that if they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they would die.

The Fall Of Adam And Eve In The Garden Of Eden

The Bible clearly informs us that the Devil entered into a serpent and tempted Eve (Genesis 3:1). He successfully convinced Eve to doubt God’s Word. Satan told her that God knew that Eve would become enlightened and possess the same knowledge as God had if she ate from the fruit of the tree. Behold, this is similar to Satan’s temptation to man today – that he does not need God. Note that the fruit was beautiful and Satan was cunning. Eve fell to the temptation and took the fruit from the forbidden tree. Finding the fruit delicious, Eve took it to Adam for him to have a taste. Adam also ate from it. From the time Adam ate, their lives, and that of the future of humanity changed. Immediately, they knew they had done wrong. In other words, they knew they had disobeyed God and would be punished for their disobedience.

Adam And Eve Hid From God In The Garden Of Eden

As it was the Almighty God’s custom, He came to visit Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They tried to cover their nakedness with fig leaves. Their nakedness was something that they had never even noticed before. The Bible tells us that when they heard God coming, they hid from Him. God searched for them. Of course, we know without a single doubt that God is all-knowing. God was not looking for them because He did not know where they were, but to give Adam and Eve a chance to return to Him and acknowledge their sin.

God’s Punishment For Adam, Eve, And The Serpent

The Bible tells us that God spoke with Adam, Eve, and the Serpent. Each one had a specific punishment from God. God told Adam that His work would be hard. It would become toilsome (Genesis 3:17-19). God told the woman that she would bear children with great pain (Genesis 3:16). The Lord God intended that Adam and Eve would have children because He talked about man and woman leaving father and mother to get married (Genesis 2:24). Adam and Eve had no father or mother. Thus, it was a pronouncement for future generations that God fully intended to come with time. Eve’s punishment was that the bearing of children would be painful. God gave the Serpent the punishment of crawling on the ground and that he would be cursed more than any other creature (Genesis 3:14). Note that the punishment was given to the animal and not just to Satan.

To Satan, God said that he would be punished in the future by the promise God would give. God told Adam and Eve in the beginning that they would die on the day they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. One death was immediate. They were spiritually separated from God. However, their physical bodies continued to live. But they would not live forever as God apparently intended. They would become old, sick, and die. Adam, Eve, and the Serpent were put out of the Garden of Eden and the curse came not only on them but on the whole world. There were briers in the fields now. They had to provide for themselves with their own hands. Adam and Eve had many children (Genesis 4). Sadly, their firstborn son, Cain, killed their second son, Abel. Adam died at 930 years of age (Genesis 5:5).

God’s Great Promise

When speaking about the extent of Satan’s punishment, God said that the seed of the woman would come to destroy him. This seed was the promised Redeemer we read so much about in the Old Testament of the Bible. He was revealed in the New Testament to be Jesus Christ. Although Satan would bruise the Savior’s heel (a fatal wound) the Redeemer would crush Satan’s head (a mortal wound) (Genesis 3:15). As a way of showing His love and giving a sign of things to come, God sacrificed an animal for Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:21). It is worth noting that this slain animal was to represent future sacrifices and forgiveness by God (Genesis 3:21). The Bible makes us understand that God made clothes for Adam and Eve from an animal which shows God covering their sins with a substitutionary sacrifice.

Questions And Answers About Adam And Eve

Were Adam And Eve Saved?

The Bible does not specifically tell us whether Adam and Eve were saved. Adam and Eve were the only two human beings who knew about God before they became tainted with sin. Therefore, they likely still knew God better after their fall than any of us do today. Adam and Eve most definitely believed in and depended on God. Even after the fall, God continued to talk with Adam and Eve as well as provide for them. Behold, Adam and Eve knew of God’s promise that He would provide a Savior (Genesis 3:15). The Lord God Almighty made garments of skin for Adam and Eve after the fall (Genesis 3:21). Many Biblical scholars perceive this as the first animal sacrifice, foreshadowing the eventual death of Jesus Christ on the Cross for the sins of the world. With these facts at hand, it would seem that Adam and Eve were saved.

If the ages in Genesis chapter 5 and the Old Testament history are traced using a young-earth creationist view, Adam and Eve were likely created in approximately 4,000 BC. Nevertheless, other interpretations of Genesis have much broader ranges for that date.

While the triune nature of God is not explicit in the Genesis account, God does reveal an “us” within the Godhead (Genesis 1:26). The Spirit is active in creation (Genesis 1:2) as is Christ (John 1:1–3; Colossians 1:15–17). In the six days of creation, God formed light, the universe, and the earth (day 1); the sky and the atmosphere (day 2); dry land and all plant life (day 3); the stars and heavenly bodies, including the sun and moon (day 4); birds and water creatures (day 5); and all the land animals and man (day 6). It is important to note that mankind is special above all other creatures because he bears the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and has the responsibility to steward and subdue the earth (Genesis 1:28). All of creation was completed in six days in all its vast array and wondrous beauty.

God announced that His creation was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Genesis 2 sees the ending of God’s creative work and gives a more detailed account of the creation of man. The seventh day is marked by God’s resting. It is worth pointing out that the rest does not suggest that God was tired; rather, His “rest” was simply a cessation of work. Behold, God was done and the universe was just as He wanted it to be. God’s six days of work, followed by a day of no work, establish a pattern of taking one day in seven for rest and sets the number of days in the week still in use today. Amazingly, the keeping of the Sabbath later became a distinguishing mark of God’s chosen people (Exodus 20:8–11.)

God Created Adam

The Bible teaches us that God created man in His image. He formed man from the dust of the ground. While the Bible does not say that God used His hands to mold the dust of the ground into the shape of a man, it does indicate that this was a much more active manner of creation than the rest of what God had made. Previously, God had only spoken the objects into existence. But God formed man and then breathed life into him in an apparently personal way. The very first man was named Adam. God brought all the animals to him to be named. Then God said: “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” God knew that Adam was lonely and decided to bring him companionship. Man needs companionship and God has made provisions for it.

God Created Eve

The Bible informs us that God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and then He performed the first surgery by cutting Adam open and forming a woman from his rip. Behold, God certainly did not need to do this but it is another of many interesting pictures in the creation story. Adam knew clearly that the woman was made from his own side. Genesis 2:23 says, Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Adam and Eve were more than just simple two creatures which God spoke into existence. They were made for God’s pleasure and were intimately connected to one another. This woman was named Eve.

God’s Command To Adam And Eve

The Almighty God gave Adam and Eve a beautiful garden named Eden in which to live. They had all the fruits and vegetables they could possibly want to enjoy. Adam and Eve were to tend the garden and have dominion over it and the animals. Many people say that work is part of the curse that came as a result of man’s fall in the garden, but the actual curse is that work would be difficult and laborious. The Lord God gave Adam and Eve many beautiful plants and trees to enjoy for food. But God also gave them one three from which they were not to eat. This was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. God’s command to them was that if they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they would die.

The Fall Of Adam And Eve In The Garden Of Eden

The Bible clearly informs us that the Devil entered into a serpent and tempted Eve (Genesis 3:1). He successfully convinced Eve to doubt God’s Word. Satan told her that God knew that Eve would become enlightened and possess the same knowledge as God had if she ate from the fruit of the tree. Behold, this is similar to Satan’s temptation to man today – that he does not need God. Note that the fruit was beautiful and Satan was cunning. Eve fell to the temptation and took the fruit from the forbidden tree. Finding the fruit delicious, Eve took it to Adam for him to have a taste. Adam also ate from it. From the time Adam ate, their lives, and that of the future of humanity changed. Immediately, they knew they had done wrong. In other words, they knew they had disobeyed God and would be punished for their disobedience.

Adam And Eve Hid From God In The Garden Of Eden

As it was the Almighty God’s custom, He came to visit Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They tried to cover their nakedness with fig leaves. Their nakedness was something that they had never even noticed before. The Bible tells us that when they heard God coming, they hid from Him. God searched for them. Of course, we know without a single doubt that God is all-knowing. God was not looking for them because He did not know where they were, but to give Adam and Eve a chance to return to Him and acknowledge their sin.

God’s Punishment For Adam, Eve, And The Serpent

The Bible tells us that God spoke with Adam, Eve, and the Serpent. Each one had a specific punishment from God. God told Adam that His work would be hard. It would become toilsome (Genesis 3:17-19). God told the woman that she would bear children with great pain (Genesis 3:16). The Lord God intended that Adam and Eve would have children because He talked about man and woman leaving father and mother to get married (Genesis 2:24). Adam and Eve had no father or mother. Thus, it was a pronouncement for future generations that God fully intended to come with time. Eve’s punishment was that the bearing of children would be painful. God gave the Serpent the punishment of crawling on the ground and that he would be cursed more than any other creature (Genesis 3:14). Note that the punishment was given to the animal and not just to Satan.

To Satan, God said that he would be punished in the future by the promise God would give. God told Adam and Eve in the beginning that they would die on the day they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. One death was immediate. They were spiritually separated from God. However, their physical bodies continued to live. But they would not live forever as God apparently intended. They would become old, sick, and die. Adam, Eve, and the Serpent were put out of the Garden of Eden and the curse came not only on them but on the whole world. There were briers in the fields now. They had to provide for themselves with their own hands. Adam and Eve had many children (Genesis 4). Sadly, their firstborn son, Cain, killed their second son, Abel. Adam died at 930 years of age (Genesis 5:5).

God’s Great Promise

When speaking about the extent of Satan’s punishment, God said that the seed of the woman would come to destroy him. This seed was the promised Redeemer we read so much about in the Old Testament of the Bible. He was revealed in the New Testament to be Jesus Christ. Although Satan would bruise the Savior’s heel (a fatal wound) the Redeemer would crush Satan’s head (a mortal wound) (Genesis 3:15). As a way of showing His love and giving a sign of things to come, God sacrificed an animal for Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:21). It is worth noting that this slain animal was to represent future sacrifices and forgiveness by God (Genesis 3:21). The Bible makes us understand that God made clothes for Adam and Eve from an animal which shows God covering their sins with a substitutionary sacrifice.

Were Adam And Eve Saved?

The Bible does not specifically tell us whether Adam and Eve were saved. Adam and Eve were the only two human beings who knew about God before they became tainted with sin. Therefore, they likely still knew God better after their fall than any of us do today. Adam and Eve most definitely believed in and depended on God. Even after the fall, God continued to talk with Adam and Eve as well as provide for them. Behold, Adam and Eve knew of God’s promise that He would provide a Savior (Genesis 3:15). The Lord God Almighty made garments of skin for Adam and Eve after the fall (Genesis 3:21). Many Biblical scholars perceive this as the first animal sacrifice, foreshadowing the eventual death of Jesus Christ on the Cross for the sins of the world. What Does The Bible Say About Creation Of Man And Woman? Adam and Eve were the first humans, according to the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic religions. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are religions that do not only hold to the fact that Adam and Eve were the first humans but also teach that all humans have descended from them. As clearly stated in the Bible, Adam and Eve were created by God to take care of His creation, populate the earth, and have a relationship with Him. Behold, their very names are indicative of their roles. Adam comes from the Hebrew Adomah, meaning “man.” Eve is from the Hebrew for “life.” The complete Biblical account of Adam and Eve can be found in Genesis 1:26 to Genesis 5:5. The Bible teaches us that on the sixth day of creation, God created all the land animals, and humans.

The story of Adam and Eve is revealed in Genesis chapters 2 and 3. Their creation is the focus of chapter 2 with their fall and punishment in chapter 3. We’ll advise you to get a Bible and read these two chapters in the book of Genesis in order to get a full understanding of the story of creation. The basic creation story is found in Genesis 1 and 2, with the account of what happened in the Garden of Eden in chapter 3. Genesis 1 begins before the existence of anything except God Himself. God’s revelation of Himself and His will for mankind is the beginning of the creation story. In this beginning, God created everything in the universe (Genesis 1:1). This includes all the heavenly bodies (including every star and planet), as well as everything on the Earth.

What The Scriptures Say About Creation

While the triune nature of God is not explicit in the Genesis account, God does reveal an “us” within the Godhead (Genesis 1:26). The Spirit is active in creation (Genesis 1:2) as is Christ (John 1:1–3; Colossians 1:15–17). In the six days of creation, God formed light, the universe, and the earth (day 1); the sky and the atmosphere (day 2); dry land and all plant life (day 3); the stars and heavenly bodies, including the sun and moon (day 4); birds and water creatures (day 5); and all the land animals and man (day 6). It is important to note that mankind is special above all other creatures because he bears the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and has the responsibility to steward and subdue the earth (Genesis 1:28). All of creation was completed in six days in all its vast array and wondrous beauty.

God announced that His creation was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Genesis 2 sees the ending of God’s creative work and gives a more detailed account of the creation of man. The seventh day is marked by God’s resting. It is worth pointing out that the rest does not suggest that God was tired; rather, His “rest” was simply a cessation of work. Behold, God was done and the universe was just as He wanted it to be. God’s six days of work, followed by a day of no work, establish a pattern of taking one day in seven for rest and sets the number of days in the week still in use today. Amazingly, the keeping of the Sabbath later became a distinguishing mark of God’s chosen people (Exodus 20:8–11.)

God Created Adam

The Bible teaches us that God created man in His image. He formed man from the dust of the ground. While the Bible does not say that God used His hands to mold the dust of the ground into the shape of a man, it does indicate that this was a much more active manner of creation than the rest of what God had made. Previously, God had only spoken the objects into existence. But God formed man and then breathed life into him in an apparently personal way. The very first man was named Adam. God brought all the animals to him to be named. Then God said: “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” God knew that Adam was lonely and decided to bring him companionship. Man needs companionship and God has made provisions for it.

God Created Eve

The Bible informs us that God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and then He performed the first surgery by cutting Adam open and forming a woman from his rip. Behold, God certainly did not need to do this but it is another of many interesting pictures in the creation story. Adam knew clearly that the woman was made from his own side. Genesis 2:23 says, Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Adam and Eve were more than just simple two creatures which God spoke into existence. They were made for God’s pleasure and were intimately connected to one another. This woman was named Eve.

God’s Command To Adam And Eve

The Almighty God gave Adam and Eve a beautiful garden named Eden in which to live. They had all the fruits and vegetables they could possibly want to enjoy. Adam and Eve were to tend the garden and have dominion over it and the animals. Many people say that work is part of the curse that came as a result of man’s fall in the garden, but the actual curse is that work would be difficult and laborious. The Lord God gave Adam and Eve many beautiful plants and trees to enjoy for food. But God also gave them one three from which they were not to eat. This was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. God’s command to them was that if they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they would die.

The Fall Of Adam And Eve In The Garden Of Eden

The Bible clearly informs us that the Devil entered into a serpent and tempted Eve (Genesis 3:1). He successfully convinced Eve to doubt God’s Word. Satan told her that God knew that Eve would become enlightened and possess the same knowledge as God had if she ate from the fruit of the tree. Behold, this is similar to Satan’s temptation to man today – that he does not need God. Note that the fruit was beautiful and Satan was cunning. Eve fell to the temptation and took the fruit from the forbidden tree. Finding the fruit delicious, Eve took it to Adam for him to have a taste. Adam also ate from it. From the time Adam ate, their lives, and that of the future of humanity changed. Immediately, they knew they had done wrong. In other words, they knew they had disobeyed God and would be punished for their disobedience.

Adam And Eve Hid From God In The Garden Of Eden

As it was the Almighty God’s custom, He came to visit Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They tried to cover their nakedness with fig leaves. Their nakedness was something that they had never even noticed before. The Bible tells us that when they heard God coming, they hid from Him. God searched for them. Of course, we know without a single doubt that God is all-knowing. God was not looking for them because He did not know where they were, but to give Adam and Eve a chance to return to Him and acknowledge their sin.

God’s Punishment For Adam, Eve, And The Serpent

The Bible tells us that God spoke with Adam, Eve, and the Serpent. Each one had a specific punishment from God. God told Adam that His work would be hard. It would become toilsome (Genesis 3:17-19). God told the woman that she would bear children with great pain (Genesis 3:16). The Lord God intended that Adam and Eve would have children because He talked about man and woman leaving father and mother to get married (Genesis 2:24). Adam and Eve had no father or mother. Thus, it was a pronouncement for future generations that God fully intended to come with time. Eve’s punishment was that the bearing of children would be painful. God gave the Serpent the punishment of crawling on the ground and that he would be cursed more than any other creature (Genesis 3:14). Note that the punishment was given to the animal and not just to Satan.

To Satan, God said that he would be punished in the future by the promise God would give. God told Adam and Eve in the beginning that they would die on the day they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. One death was immediate. They were spiritually separated from God. However, their physical bodies continued to live. But they would not live forever as God apparently intended. They would become old, sick, and die. Adam, Eve, and the Serpent were put out of the Garden of Eden and the curse came not only on them but on the whole world. There were briers in the fields now. They had to provide for themselves with their own hands. Adam and Eve had many children (Genesis 4). Sadly, their firstborn son, Cain, killed their second son, Abel. Adam died at 930 years of age (Genesis 5:5).

God’s Great Promise

When speaking about the extent of Satan’s punishment, God said that the seed of the woman would come to destroy him. What Is The Fall Of Man? What Truly Happened At The Fall Of Man? The fall of man is a major event that occurred sometimes after God created the world and after Satan’s rebellion in heaven. A detailed Biblical account of creation is in the Book of Genesis 1–3. We are taught that the Almighty God spoke everything into existence: sky, planets, seas, vegetation, animals, and everything else. In fact, the Lord God created the world and all within it, and He called it good (Genesis 1:1–31). Fascinatingly, when God was making man, He got down to the dust of the ground and formed the shape of a human body (Genesis 2:7). Then, He breathed His own life into the man’s nostrils, and “man became a living soul.” God called the man “Adam.” Behold, the man had a life that differed from the plant and animal life.

Amazingly, the man had been created in God’s own image (Genesis 1:27), meaning that he possessed an everlasting spirit, such as God has. Brethren, the man was designed to be like God, fellowship with God, reason like God, and enjoy God forever. God placed Adam, the first man, in a garden designed specifically for him (Genesis 2:8). In these perfect surroundings designed and materialized by God, God Himself walked and talked with the man, enjoying the beautiful creation He had made and Adam’s pleasure in it (Genesis 2:19–20; 3:8). The Lord God never wanted Adam to be alone, and so, He fashioned a woman, Eve, from one of Adam’s ribs. God gave them everything in the garden to enjoy except for the fruit from one tree (Genesis 2:16–17). He told them that if they ate fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they would die.

The Fall Of Man Summary Story

What The Scriptures Say About The Fall

Genesis 1-3 clearly recounts the story of the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. The Serpent, as introduced in Genesis 3, happens to be a major contributor to the fall of man. Note that Satan had already been cast down to earth due to his rebellion directed against God in Heaven (Luke 10:18). It so happened that one day, he came to Eve as a Serpent and suggested to her that God had not really forbidden the fruit from her for her good but was rather keeping good from her (Genesis 3:1–4). Unfortunately, the woman fell into Satan’s trap, ate the fruit, and gave some to the Man (Genesis 3:5). Adam also ate the forbidden fruit, and from that very moment, everything changed. By so doing, Adam and Eve opened the pathway for sin to enter into God’s perfect world (Romans 5:12) resulting in the Fall of Mankind.

The fall of man was caused by Adam’s sin or disobedience to the Lord God Almighty’s instructions. We can Define Sin as any human thought, word, and/or action that is contrary to the perfection of God. Due to Adam’s sin, the Lord God placed a curse upon the world, the people, the animals, the plants, and the very ground (Genesis 3:14–19). The judgment of God came, and the only just punishment for such is eternal death (Romans 6:23). Nevertheless, God in His love installed a system by which human beings could find pardon for sin. God killed an animal and made garments for the man and woman to cover the nakedness that now brought them shame (Genesis 3:21). God used this act to paint a picture of what He would do thousands of years later when the perfect lamb was slain to take away our sin (John 1:29; Revelation 13:8).

Life After The Fall

The Bible tells us that after the fall of man, the Lord God drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden and placed the Cherub to guide the entrance. God did this so that Adam and Eve could not return and possibly eat from the tree of life and live forever in their cursed state (Genesis 3:23–24). Unlike it was in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were forced to find their own food and shelter. In other words, Adam had to fight weeds and thistles to eke out an existence from the ground, while Eve had to suffer in childbirth. It’s important that we get to understand that suffering and toil are part of the curse God put upon this world because of sin.

Understanding How The Fall Of Man Affected The Whole Word

In the history of mankind, this episode is referred to as the fall of man because, in that very act of disobedience to God’s instructions, Adam brought a curse upon every person yet to be born. As a result of disobedience, the man who was designed and created to walk with God in unbroken fellowship had fallen from the exalted position. Sadly, he was doomed to live in a broken state, in a broken world, apart from ongoing communion with a Holy God. Although the Lord God Almighty promised that the Seed of the woman would one day save them from the eternal consequences of their sin (Genesis 3:15), the temporary earthly consequences of sin remained.

Truthfully speaking, we all suffer the consequences of the fall of man. Nevertheless, our salvation is in calling upon the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and trusting in His perfect sacrifice as the Lamb of God that takes away our sin (Romans 10:13; 2 Corinthians 5:18; John 1:29). Mankind groans under the curse, crying out for the relief that will come at the ultimate redemption of God’s people when Jesus Christ returns (Romans 8:22–23). God has promised to restore all things when Jesus Christ will return for all those who have put their trust in Him (Acts 3:21). God will create a New Heaven and a New Earth to replace that which sin destroyed (Isaiah 65:17). In those days, mankind will no longer be “fallen” but restored and redeemed by the blood of the Lamb of God (John 1:29; Revelation 7:14; 1 Peter 1: 18-19).

Although the Fall of Man completely changed the course of history, it also gave ground for the glory of God to display his mercy and kindness toward humankind. Before the fall of man, God and mankind experienced communion and fellowship in a close relationship. Mankind’s nature was created righteous and encouraged to do good, to have a conscious relationship with God, and be fully established in the ways of righteousness and faith. Unfortunately, the Fall of man came as a transition from a state of moral innocence, righteousness, and favor with God to a state of separation and death. What brings hope for mankind from the fall of man is the promised redemption in the person and work of Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior of the world.

1. The Fall of Man is to be Understood Literally

The Fall of Man is an account of Adam and Eve’s disobedience as well as its consequences. And as we know, Adam and Eve were real people. The Bible teaches us that Adam and Eve were the first human beings to be created. Not taking the Story of Adam and Eve Literally is denying the existence of the Almighty God. As a matter of fact, Jesus Christ taught that God created one man and one woman (Mark 10:6) and mentioned Abel, a son of Adam and Eve in Luke 11:51. To deny the literalness of Adam and Eve is to place oneself in opposition to Jesus Christ, the Apostles, and the Prophets whom God Himself inspired to bring His message to the world.

Does God’s goodness imply a yes to everything that we do? Or does God’s goodness give us permission to do anything that we want? No. It is important for us to understand that in God’s infinite wisdom, He sets boundaries for our own good and development. By having a boundary placed around the tree of knowledge, Adam and Eve were introduced to the concept of obedience by choice. Obedience by choice is one way to display our love and respect for God. We can always trust Him because He is good and He does all things for the good of those who love Him. We love Him because He first loved us. Unfortunately, when we are faced with a no, we are more likely to doubt God’s goodness as Eve did. It is not because God loves us that He’ll let us do anything or become anything.

4. At the Fall of Man, the Wisdom of God was disputed

The Devil succeeded in convincing Adam and Eve to think that they could be like God. Instead of maintaining their positions as creations, they desired that of their Creator. And this was the very rebellion that led to the expulsion of Satan from Heaven. The Bible teaches us that the Devil wanted God’s position, a situation that led him to rebel and was driven from heaven by God (Isaiah 14:12-14). When a man takes this same path that the Devil took, he is preparing himself for destruction as was the case with Adam. Thinking this way or acting this way is getting ourselves out of the pathway which God created us to follow. The Lord God created man to acknowledge Him, praise Him, and worship Him. God created man to develop and maintain a close communion and fellowship with Him.

5. At the Fall of Man, God’s Truth was Contradicted

The Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden plays out in front of the cosmic battle between Satan and God (Isaiah 14:12-14). That is, the war that began in heaven, continues on earth and will be finished at the final battle. In the meantime, Satan, the enemy of God continues his fight against God using God’s treasured creation: humankind. Human beings are made in God’s image thereby making them special and outstanding when talking about God’s creation. In addition, only human beings can have a relationship with God. And as was the case in the Garden of Eden, if the enemy successfully contradicts God’s truth about what God says, he can throw mankind onto a path of separation from God. With this in mind, we should be careful not to give room to the Devil to contradict God’s word in our lives.

6. At the Fall of Man, Physical and Spiritual Death came into existence

Sin opened the door for physical and spiritual death to enter. In other words, the result of total separation from God at the Fall of Man included physical and spiritual death. Spiritual death can be regarded as a separation of the fellowship and communion that Adam and Eve shared with God. On the other hand, physical death came on time – through old age, wars, toil, and sickness. The disobedience of Adam and Eve to God’s instructions led to a broken relationship with God that is affecting all mankind.

7. At the Fall of Man, Shame, Blame, and Fear entered the world

As we can deduce from the account of the Fall, shame causes us to hide, blame causes us to refuse to accept responsibility, and fear distracts us away from God. In addition, fear is a tool of the enemy, to stifle our confidence in Christ and lead us away from God. After Adam and Eve sinned, they hid from God. Their garden, once a place of happiness, freedom, close fellowship, and communion with God, became a place of fear and hiding. Upon coming out from hiding, Adam blamed God when he said, “The woman you [emphasis added] put here with me,” and he also blamed Eve as he continued: “she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate” (Genesis 3:12). Likewise, Eve blamed the serpent. We see clearly that both Adam and Eve refused to take responsibility for their actions as they shifted blame.

8. At the Fall of Man, Toil Entered the World

The Bible teaches us that God created humankind to work. In fact, work is a gift from God that He called good. Unfortunately, one of the consequences of the Fall of Man was painful toil in every area. By toil, we mean engaging in hard and continuous work and to move with difficulty, weariness, or pain. In addition, the ground would produce thistles and thorns, fighting against humankind to produce food for sustenance. Also, childbirth pains would increase and man’s life would be sustained through the painful toil of hard work. These all came as consequences of the Fall.

9. The Fall of Man Brought Sin to Everyone

Romans 5:12 says, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—” This Bible verse teaches us that everyone who comes after Adam and Eve inherits physical and spiritual death. Also, Ephesians 2:1-2 teaches us that mankind is subject to sin. In other words, sin is our ruler and we are its subjects. Romans 3:14 confirms the truth that we are full of bitterness and strife. Humankind cannot save themselves. Note that we sin because we are born sinners and we are not able to not sin without God’s intervention through His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, Savior of the World. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.“

10. At the Fall of Man, God Promised a Redeemer

In Genesis 3:15 God speaks to Satan, “And I will put enmity (conflict) between your seed and the woman’s seed: He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his feet.” Despite the Fall of Man, God promised hope. The Lord God in His mercy, grace, and love decided to make a way for humankind to be reunited in that intimate relationship with Him. God promised to send a redeemer, his Son, who would bridge the separation gap between a holy, righteous God and a sinful, human race. When the Lord God sacrificed an animal and made them clothes from the skins, it was a foreshadow of the way He would save humankind through the sacrifice of a substitute, the shedding of blood, and the covering of righteousness. When Jesus came into the world as the Messiah, He shed His blood, took our place, and became our righteousness.

Behold, Adam and Eve did not remain faithful to God, but broke His command by eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good from evil in the Garden of Eden. Many Biblical scholars typically answer this question in different ways.

Some Biblical scholars say that Adam and Eve did die, but not immediately. The Hebrew phrase translated “in the day” in Genesis 2:17 is sometimes used to mean “for certain” (e.g., Exodus 10:28; 1 Kings 2:37, 42). And as we know, Adam and Eve “certainly” died; although their death took place much later (Genesis 5:5). This point of view is highly supported by Genesis 3:22 in which the Lord God Almighty decides to prevent man from eating from the tree of life and living forever. Adam and Eve lost Eternal Life, were expelled from the Garden of Eden, and eventually experienced physical death. Other Biblical scholars regard the “death” warning of Genesis 2:17 as being spiritual death. It is believed and Biblically supported that when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they experienced a separation from God, a loss of a relationship due to their sin.

The sin of Adam and Eve separated them from God. In fact, it damaged the close relationship that they had with God. The Bible teaches us that their first actions after sinning were to cover themselves up and hide from God  (Genesis 3:7-8). We can point to this alienation from the Source of Life as spiritual death. Furthermore, some Biblical scholars understand and teach that both physical and spiritual death resulted from the original sin. That is, the moment Adam and Eve sinned against God, their souls were separated from God, and their bodies began to die. Their spiritual deadness and susceptibility to physical death have been passed upon all humanity (Romans 5:12).

Hallelujah to the Lord God Almighty, Father of Creation. Behold, He did not abandon Adam and Eve. The Bible tells us how He provided clothes for them (Genesis 3:21), and allowed them to have children (Genesis 4). God also promised “the seed of the woman” to crush the power of the Serpent (Genesis 3:15). This amazing promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Savior. Amazingly, Jesus Christ defeated Sin and Death on the Cross and now provides Abundant Life to anyone who welcomes and Believes in Him (John 10:10). Likewise, God’s special gift of Eternal Life to mankind comes through Jesus Christ, Savior of the world. In support of this, Romans 5:19 says, “For as by the one man’s [Adam’s] disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s [Jesus’] obedience the many will be made righteous.”

More Biblical Facts

Some people have claimed that the Bible doesn’t necessarily mean what it says in Genesis 2:17, since Adam and Eve didn’t die immediately after they ate the forbidden fruit. It is rather unfortunate that they argue that the passage really means “die,” and not “surely die,” which is what gives the impression that Adam and Eve would die on the very day that they eat the forbidden fruit. Truth be told, Adam and Eve never died on the same day or immediately after they ate the fruit (Genesis 5:4–5) as some people seem to think Genesis 2:17 implies. So, either God was in error, or man’s interpretation is in error. But because we know that God cannot lie (Hebrews 6:18), then fallible humans must be making the mistake.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at where the confusion arises. The Hebrew phrase in English is more literally: “Tree knowledge good evil eat day eat die (dying) die.” The Hebrew is, literally, die-die (muwth-muwth)with two different verb tenses (dying and die), which can be translated as “surely die” or “dying you shall die.” Behold, this indicates the beginning of dying, an ingressive sense, which finally culminates with death. Following this, we can now say that from the day Adam and Eve ate the fruit, they began to die and would finally return to dust (Genesis 3:19). If they were meant to die right then, the text should have simply used muwth only once, which means “dead, died, or die” and not beginning to die or surely die (as muwth-muwth is used in Hebrew). However, we must understand that English translations can miss some of the nuances.

The Bible teaches us that the Universe was created to showcase the glory of God (Psalm 19:1), and the wrath of God is revealed against those who fail to glorify Him (Romans 1:18-25).

The Lord God Almighty did not need to create; He chose to create. Through the unity of the Trinity: God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, everything was created. God created everything out of nothing to put His glory on display for the delight of created beings made in His image. Truth be told, without the Fall of Man, there is no way for man to know the glory of God or the grace of God. With this in mind, it’s clear that God’s wrath and God’s mercy display the riches of His everlasting glory, but we cannot see either without the fall of mankind. That is, we would have never known grace if we had never needed grace. Therefore, all of God’s plan, including the Fall, election, redemption, and atonement of humanity, serves the purpose of glorifying God. Behold, Adam falling into sin displays the mercy of God by not killing him instantly or on the spot. The grace of our Lord God was immediately evident in the covering He provided for their shame (Genesis 3:21). Likewise, God’s forbearance and patience were later on display as mankind fell deeper and deeper into sin.

In the same light, God’s wrath and justice were on display when He sent the flood, and God’s mercy and grace were again demonstrated when He saved Noah and his family from destruction. God’s holy wrath and perfect justice will be seen in the future when He deals with Satan once and for all. In support, Revelation 20:9–10 says, “ And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them, and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.“

In support, 1 John 4:9 says, “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” Let’s assume for an instance that God did not create Adam and Eve, based on His knowledge about their fall or if He made them robots with no free will, then there would be no way for man to know the love of God.

Understanding The Ultimate Demonstration Of God’s Love For Mankind

The ultimate demonstration of the love of God occurred at the Cross, where the wrath, mercy, and justice of God meet. The righteous judgment of all sin was executed at the cross, and God’s unfailing grace was on display in His Son’s Words, “Father, forgive them” (Luke 23:34). The love and grace of God are manifest in those who are saved (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8–10). The Lord God Almighty will be glorified as His chosen people worship Him for all eternity with the angels, and the wicked will equally glorify God as His righteousness results in the eternal punishment of unrepentant sinners (Philippians 2:11). Without the Fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, we would never know God’s justice, mercy, grace, or love.

It is rather unfortunate that many people object that the foreknowledge and foreordination of the fall damaged the freedom of man. In other words, they are asking the question, if God created mankind with full knowledge of the impending fall into sin, how can man be responsible for his sin? The best answer to this question comes from the Westminster Confession of Faith: “God, from all eternity, did, by the most wise and holy counsel of his own will, freely, and unchangeably ordain whatsoever comes to pass; yet so, as thereby neither is God the author of sin, nor is violence offered to the will of the creatures; nor is the liberty or contingency of second causes taken away, but rather established” (WFC, III.1).

In other words, God ordains future events in such a way that our freedom and the working of secondary causes (e.g., laws of nature) are highly preserved. This is what theologians refer to as “concurrence.” That’s, God’s sovereign will flows concurrently with our free choices in such a way that our free choices always result in the carrying out of God’s will (by “free” we mean that the choices we make are not coerced by outside influences). Although this is a complex interaction of wills and choices, God can handle any amount of complexity. Although God foresaw Adam and Eve’s fall, He still created them in His own image, to bring glory to Himself. He gave them the freedom of choice. Although they chose to disobey, their choice became the means by which God’s Ultimate Will was accomplished and by which His full glory will be revealed for all.

Understanding How The Sin Of Adam And Eve Affected Mankind

Romans 5:14 says, “Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.” We are made to understand by the Bible that Adam’s choices are our choices, which is why every human being shares in the consequences of Adam’s sin. Adam’s transgression is imputed to every human, so God regards everyone as guilty. Romans 3:23-24 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

The righteousness of Christ is imputed to sinners when they believe. In support, 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Brethren, the righteousness of Christ is a gift of grace from God to mankind. After the Fall, God promised that Eve’s seed will crush Satan, the serpent’s head. Jesus, by His obedience, is that seed; for He crushed Satan, securing our right stand before the Lord God Almighty (Colossians 2:13-15). Likewise, John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
