What Does The Bible Say About The Importance Of Accountability? Behold, the Bible says much about accountability. In fact, we need to understand that all of us are accountable before God. In support, 2 Corinthians 5:10 says, “we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” The Almighty God is holy in all His ways. He is a God of righteousness and justice. God knows everything that happens and therefore all our words, thoughts, and actions will be judged. Amazingly, God is Omniscient and Omnipotent. It is without a doubt that God is absolutely just. With this in mind, it is clear that judgment is necessary for the holiness of God to be preserved and enacted, and we will all stand before God one day in judgment.

In addition to the fact that all of us are accountable before God, accountability is essential to the body of Christ and to the way each of us can know God and make Him known to others. Individual/personal and Collective Accountability are vital to the health and the well-being of the body of Christ. Brothers and sisters, whether we accept it or not, the Scriptures are clear on the fact that we are all accountable to God, and since nothing is hidden from Him, we will all have to give an accurate account. The tricks, lies, and manipulations that we are all tempted to employ in this life won’t work when we’ll be standing before God Almighty to give an account of all ours thoughts, words, and actions. For this very reason, we must pay attention to all our thoughts, words, and actions.

What Does The Bible Say About The Importance Of Accountability?

What Is Personal Accountability?

Before we go deep into answering the question, “what does the Bible say about accountability,” we should first take some time to understand what the Bible says about personal accountability. We’ll start by breaking the word and finding some definitions. The root of the word is account, and the definition of account, in this case, is a report or description of an event or experience. Therefore, to be accountable for something is to be “able to give an account,” or to be able to report or describe that thing. To be accountable to someone is to have the responsibility of offering an account to that person. In one way or the other, we are accountable to someone (a boss, partner, board members, or shareholders) in our jobs, but that’s not personal accountability but corporate accountability. Romans 14:12 says, “Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.“

Accountability Versus Responsibility

Some people think and argue that responsibility and accountability are the same. Some sources even go to the extent of using one of these words to define the other. However, in reality, there is a very important difference between the two. We need to understand that the word responsibility carries with it culpability or fault, while accountability simply necessitates giving an answer. This point is easily demonstrated in the corporate world in the relationship between boss and employee. The boss is not responsible to do the job of each employee but is accountable for whether or not the job gets done rightly.

How do we handle our own sin before the judgement day?

Behold, we’ll all have to answer to God, not for whether or not everything went perfectly, but for how we responded. We’ll answer for what we did do even when things happened that were out of our hands. We’ll stand before God who knows everything and give Him an account of everything we did and that which we failed to do. With this in mind, how do we deal with our own sin before we’ll be judged by God? The Bible says that a day is coming when we’ll stand before the Judgement Seat of Christ. Thus, if there is anything that we can do about our sins, this is the right time because a time is coming when it will be too late. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

The Lord God Almighty forgave David for murder, adultery, and all that went into his affaire with Bathsheba. If Paul can be forgiven, not only for rejecting Jesus Christ but for persecuting and killing Christians, if Peter could be forgiven for denying the Lord three times, then you yourself can as well be forgiven by God. 1 John 1:9 says that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This is the good news of God’s Grace that was poured on mankind through His Son, Jesus Christ. When we confess our sin to the Lord God Almighty, not only does He forgive us from all and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, the Bible says that He separates our sin from us as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). 

Importance Of Accountability

Today, we live in a world where temptation is all around us and if we are not careful, we’ll fall into it one way or the other. And behold, Satan is always striving to create more temptation. In the face of such temptations, many Christians seek out an “accountability partner” to pray with and help share the burdens that come with doing spiritual warfare. It is important to have a Christian brother or sister that we can count on when we are facing temptations. King David was alone the evening that Satan tempted him into adultery with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11). The Biblical Book of Ephesians 6:12 tells us that we fight a war not of the flesh but of the Spirit, against powers and spiritual forces that threaten us.

Having in mind that we are in a continuous battle against the forces of darkness, it is clear that we need as much help as we can gather around us, and this may include making ourselves accountable to another believer who can support and/or encourage us in the fight. Apostle Paul tells us that we must be equipped with all the power that God supplies to fight this battle. In support, Ephesians 6:13 says, “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” It is without a doubt that temptation will come. However, we should always be in prayers so that when it comes, it should find us prepared and ready to overcome it by the power and authority that Christ has given to us.

More on the importance of accountability

The Devil knows our weaknesses and tends to attack when we are vulnerable. When you are in the face of challenges or temptations, support or encouragement from a Christian brother or sister to whom you are accountable can go a long way to restore your strength to overcome the situation. Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance.” A friend’s countenance is a look or expression of encouragement or moral support. Moral support and encouragement from a Christian friend can be of great help. In support, Hebrews 10:24–25 says, “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

It is important for us to understand that the Body of Christ is interconnected. And as such, we have the duty to each other to build each other up. In the same light of accountability, James 5:16 says, “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” Behold, accountability can be helpful in the battle to overcome sin. An accountability partner can be there to comfort you, rebuke you, encourage you, teach you, support you, rejoice with you, remind you of God’s ways, and weep with you. Having this in mind, it is advisable for every Christian to have an accountability partner with whom he/she can confess, confide, talk and pray.

How can I hold others accountable?
  • Holding others accountable requires a measure of grace and humility
  • You’ll need to understand that helping people deal with the sin in their life is really an act of grace in their lives
  • Holding others accountable is done in a spirit of humility that recognizes that we are all sinners
  • Before holding others accountable make sure that you yourself are accountable
How to hold yourself accountable
  • Learn to fear the Lord (Ecclesiastes 12:13)
  • Be accountable to others or get an accountability partner (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)
  • Be honest with yourself and to others (Psalm 32:2-5)
  • Develop a personal accountability plan
  • Make use of an accountability software

He is a God of righteousness and justice. God knows everything that happens and therefore all our words, thoughts, and actions will be judged. Amazingly, God is Omniscient and Omnipotent. Brothers and sisters, whether we accept it or not, the Scriptures are clear on the fact that we are all accountable to God, and since nothing is hidden from Him, we will all have to give an accurate account. The tricks, lies, and manipulations that we are all tempted to employ in this life won’t work when we’ll be standing before God Almighty to give an account of all ours thoughts, words, and actions. For this very reason, we must pay attention to all our thoughts, words, and actions.

What Is Personal Accountability?

Before we go deep into answering the question, “what does the Bible say about accountability,” we should first take some time to understand what the Bible says about personal accountability. We’ll start by breaking the word and finding some definitions. The root of the word is account, and the definition of account, in this case, is a report or description of an event or experience. Therefore, to be accountable for something is to be “able to give an account,” or to be able to report or describe that thing. To be accountable to someone is to have the responsibility of offering an account to that person. In one way or the other, we are accountable to someone (a boss, partner, board members, or shareholders) in our jobs, but that’s not personal accountability but corporate accountability. Romans 14:12 says, “Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.“

Accountability Versus Responsibility

Some people think and argue that responsibility and accountability are the same. Some sources even go to the extent of using one of these words to define the other. However, in reality, there is a very important difference between the two. We need to understand that the word responsibility carries with it culpability or fault, while accountability simply necessitates giving an answer. This point is easily demonstrated in the corporate world in the relationship between boss and employee. The boss is not responsible to do the job of each employee but is accountable for whether or not the job gets done rightly.

How do we handle our own sin before the judgement day?

Behold, we’ll all have to answer to God, not for whether or not everything went perfectly, but for how we responded. We’ll answer for what we did do even when things happened that were out of our hands. We’ll stand before God who knows everything and give Him an account of everything we did and that which we failed to do. With this in mind, how do we deal with our own sin before we’ll be judged by God? The Bible says that a day is coming when we’ll stand before the Judgement Seat of Christ. Thus, if there is anything that we can do about our sins, this is the right time because a time is coming when it will be too late. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

The Lord God Almighty forgave David for murder, adultery, and all that went into his affaire with Bathsheba. If Paul can be forgiven, not only for rejecting Jesus Christ but for persecuting and killing Christians, if Peter could be forgiven for denying the Lord three times, then you yourself can as well be forgiven by God. 1 John 1:9 says that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This is the good news of God’s Grace that was poured on mankind through His Son, Jesus Christ. When we confess our sin to the Lord God Almighty, not only does He forgive us from all and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, the Bible says that He separates our sin from us as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). 

Importance Of Accountability

Today, we live in a world where temptation is all around us and if we are not careful, we’ll fall into it one way or the other. And behold, Satan is always striving to create more temptation. In the face of such temptations, many Christians seek out an “accountability partner” to pray with and help share the burdens that come with doing spiritual warfare. It is important to have a Christian brother or sister that we can count on when we are facing temptations. King David was alone the evening that Satan tempted him into adultery with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11). The Biblical Book of Ephesians 6:12 tells us that we fight a war not of the flesh but of the Spirit, against powers and spiritual forces that threaten us.

Having in mind that we are in a continuous battle against the forces of darkness, it is clear that we need as much help as we can gather around us, and this may include making ourselves accountable to another believer who can support and/or encourage us in the fight. Apostle Paul tells us that we must be equipped with all the power that God supplies to fight this battle. In support, Ephesians 6:13 says, “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” It is without a doubt that temptation will come. However, we should always be in prayers so that when it comes, it should find us prepared and ready to overcome it by the power and authority that Christ has given to us.

The Devil knows our weaknesses and tends to attack when we are vulnerable. When you are in the face of challenges or temptations, support or encouragement from a Christian brother or sister to whom you are accountable can go a long way to restore your strength to overcome the situation. Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance.” A friend’s countenance is a look or expression of encouragement or moral support. Moral support and encouragement from a Christian friend can be of great help. In support, Hebrews 10:24–25 says, “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

It is important for us to understand that the Body of Christ is interconnected. And as such, we have the duty to each other to build each other up. In the same light of accountability, James 5:16 says, “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” Behold, accountability can be helpful in the battle to overcome sin. An accountability partner can be there to comfort you, rebuke you, encourage you, teach you, support you, rejoice with you, remind you of God’s ways, and weep with you. Having this in mind, it is advisable for every Christian to have an accountability partner with whom he/she can confess, confide, talk and pray.

Discover the Grace For Accomplishment in the Bible. Can a Christian be proud of his/her accomplishments? Behold, it’s not necessarily wrong to take pride in our work as we thank God for the strength and guidance He gave us to accomplish it. It is important to understand that if we don’t, our work is likely to end up sloppy or incomplete. Remember how Apostle Paul urged his young companion Timothy to be “a worker who does not need to be ashamed” (2 Timothy 2:15). Nevertheless, the Bible warns us against a self-centered, egotistical pride that says, “have a look at me and see what I have accomplished!” But why is this wrong? The first and most important reason is that this type of pride cuts us off from God as we tend to take credit of our accomplishments.

The gifts and abilities that we have are from God who gave us the privilege and opportunity to use them. Therefore, when we take credit for what we have achieved, we remove God from the scene. Psalm 10:4 says, “In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” We should not allow such to happen to us. Another reason why this type of pride is wrong is because it makes us think that we are better than other people, and this separates us from them and makes us insensitive to their needs. Also, we may take advantage of them and use them for our selfish benefit. Proverbs 21:4 says, “Haughty eyes and a proud heart … produce sin.” Thus, we should all turn to Jesus Christ with a humble heart and acknowledge that all we have is from God.

What The Scriptures Say

The Bible says much about accomplishments and pride. However, there is a difference between the kind of pride that God hates (Proverbs 8:13) and the kind of pride we can feel about a job well done (Galatians 6:4) or the kind of pride that we express over the accomplishments of loved ones (2 Corinthians 7:4). The kind of pride that stems from self-righteousness or conceit is sin. This kind of pride is a hindrance to seeking God. According to Psalm 10:4, the proud are so consumed with themselves that their thoughts are far from God: “In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” Christ teaches that this kind of haughty pride is the opposite of the Spirit of humility that God desires from us: “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3).

Jesus Christ promises the Kingdom of God for those who are poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3). The “poor in spirit” are those who recognize their utter bankruptcy and their inability to come to God aside from His Divine Grace. The proud, on the other hand, are so blinded by their pride that they think that they have no need of God, or worse, that God should accept them the way they are because they deserve His acceptance. Proverbs 16:18-19 says, “pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.” It is worth remembering that Satan was cast out of Heaven because of pride (Isaiah 14:12-15). He had the selfish audacity of wanting to replace God. However, defiance against God leads to nothing but disaster (Isaiah 14:22).

The Bondage of Pride

Pride prevents one from acknowledging the power, strength, supremacy, ability, and sovereignty of God. Pride has kept many people in the bondage of sin. It has prevented them from accepting Jesus Christ as Savior. Sincerely admitting sin and acknowledging that in our own strength, we can do nothing to inherit eternal life is a constant stumbling block for prideful people. As Christians, we are not to boast about ourselves; if we must boast, we are to proclaim the glories of God Almighty, Father of Creation. Behold, what we say about ourselves is not that important but what God says about us is very important. In fact, our lives depend on what He says (2 Corinthians 10:18).

As a Christian, it is important to understand that pride is sinful because it is giving ourselves the credit for something that God has done. Pride is taking the glory that belongs to God Almighty alone and keeping it for ourselves. In other words, pride is self-worship. Behold, anything that we accomplish in the world would not have been possible if God didn’t strengthen and sustain us. In support of this, 1 Corinthians 4:7 says, “What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” With this in mind, we are to give glory to God in everything that we do and in everything that we achieve. Instead of being proud of our achievements, we should rather thank God for them as we acknowledge His sovereignty over our lives and everything that we have.

Discover the Biblical Meaning Of Accomplishment. Can a Christian be proud of his/her accomplishments? Behold, it’s not necessarily wrong to take pride in our work as we thank God for the strength and guidance He gave us to accomplish it. It is important to understand that if we don’t, our work is likely to end up sloppy or incomplete. Remember how Apostle Paul urged his young companion Timothy to be “a worker who does not need to be ashamed” (2 Timothy 2:15). Nevertheless, the Bible warns us against a self-centered, egotistical pride that says, “have a look at me and see what I have accomplished!” But why is this wrong? The first and most important reason is that this type of pride cuts us off from God as we tend to take credit of our accomplishments.

The gifts and abilities that we have are from God who gave us the privilege and opportunity to use them. Therefore, when we take credit for what we have achieved, we remove God from the scene. Psalm 10:4 says, “In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” We should not allow such to happen to us. Another reason why this type of pride is wrong is because it makes us think that we are better than other people, and this separates us from them and makes us insensitive to their needs. Also, we may take advantage of them and use them for our selfish benefit. Proverbs 21:4 says, “Haughty eyes and a proud heart … produce sin.” Thus, we should all turn to Jesus Christ with a humble heart and acknowledge that all we have is from God.

Biblical Meaning Of Accomplishment

What The Scriptures Say

The Bible says much about accomplishments and pride. However, there is a difference between the kind of pride that God hates (Proverbs 8:13) and the kind of pride we can feel about a job well done (Galatians 6:4) or the kind of pride that we express over the accomplishments of loved ones (2 Corinthians 7:4). The kind of pride that stems from self-righteousness or conceit is sin. This kind of pride is a hindrance to seeking God. According to Psalm 10:4, the proud are so consumed with themselves that their thoughts are far from God: “In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” Christ teaches that this kind of haughty pride is the opposite of the Spirit of humility that God desires from us: “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3).

Jesus Christ promises the Kingdom of God for those who are poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3). The “poor in spirit” are those who recognize their utter bankruptcy and their inability to come to God aside from His Divine Grace. The proud, on the other hand, are so blinded by their pride that they think that they have no need of God, or worse, that God should accept them the way they are because they deserve His acceptance. Proverbs 16:18-19 says, “pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.” It is worth remembering that Satan was cast out of Heaven because of pride (Isaiah 14:12-15). He had the selfish audacity of wanting to replace God. However, defiance against God leads to nothing but disaster (Isaiah 14:22).

The Bondage of Pride

Pride prevents one from acknowledging the power, strength, supremacy, ability, and sovereignty of God. Pride has kept many people in the bondage of sin. It has prevented them from accepting Jesus Christ as Savior. Sincerely admitting sin and acknowledging that in our own strength, we can do nothing to inherit eternal life is a constant stumbling block for prideful people. As Christians, we are not to boast about ourselves; if we must boast, we are to proclaim the glories of God Almighty, Father of Creation. Behold, what we say about ourselves is not that important but what God says about us is very important. In fact, our lives depend on what He says (2 Corinthians 10:18).

As a Christian, it is important to understand that pride is sinful because it is giving ourselves the credit for something that God has done. Pride is taking the glory that belongs to God Almighty alone and keeping it for ourselves. In other words, pride is self-worship. Behold, anything that we accomplish in the world would not have been possible if God didn’t strengthen and sustain us. In support of this, 1 Corinthians 4:7 says, “What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” With this in mind, we are to give glory to God in everything that we do and in everything that we achieve. Instead of being proud of our achievements, we should rather thank God for them as we acknowledge His sovereignty over our lives and everything that we have.

As Christians, we are not to boast about ourselves; if we must boast, we are to proclaim the glories of God Almighty, Father of Creation. Behold, what we say about ourselves is not that important but what God says about us is very important. In fact, our lives depend on what He says (2 Corinthians 10:18).

As a Christian, it is important to understand that pride is sinful because it is giving ourselves the credit for something that God has done. Pride is taking the glory that belongs to God Almighty alone and keeping it for ourselves. In other words, pride is self-worship. Behold, anything that we accomplish in the world would not have been possible if God didn’t strengthen and sustain us. In support of this, 1 Corinthians 4:7 says, “What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” With this in mind, we are to give glory to God in everything that we do and in everything that we achieve. Instead of being proud of our achievements, we should rather thank God for them as we acknowledge His sovereignty over our lives and everything that we have.

Behold, it’s not necessarily wrong to take pride in our work as we thank God for the strength and guidance He gave us to accomplish it. It is important to understand that if we don’t, our work is likely to end up sloppy or incomplete. Remember how Apostle Paul urged his young companion Timothy to be “a worker who does not need to be ashamed” (2 Timothy 2:15). Nevertheless, the Bible warns us against a self-centered, egotistical pride that says, “have a look at me and see what I have accomplished!” But why is this wrong? The first and most important reason is that this type of pride cuts us off from God as we tend to take credit of our accomplishments.

The gifts and abilities that we have are from God who gave us the privilege and opportunity to use them. Therefore, when we take credit for what we have achieved, we remove God from the scene. Psalm 10:4 says, “In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” We should not allow such to happen to us. Another reason why this type of pride is wrong is because it makes us think that we are better than other people, and this separates us from them and makes us insensitive to their needs. Also, we may take advantage of them and use them for our selfish benefit. Proverbs 21:4 says, “Haughty eyes and a proud heart … produce sin.” Thus, we should all turn to Jesus Christ with a humble heart and acknowledge that all we have is from God.

What The Scriptures Say

The Bible says much about accomplishments and pride. However, there is a difference between the kind of pride that God hates (Proverbs 8:13) and the kind of pride we can feel about a job well done (Galatians 6:4) or the kind of pride that we express over the accomplishments of loved ones (2 Corinthians 7:4). The kind of pride that stems from self-righteousness or conceit is sin. This kind of pride is a hindrance to seeking God. According to Psalm 10:4, the proud are so consumed with themselves that their thoughts are far from God: “In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” Christ teaches that this kind of haughty pride is the opposite of the Spirit of humility that God desires from us: “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3).

Jesus Christ promises the Kingdom of God for those who are poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3). The “poor in spirit” are those who recognize their utter bankruptcy and their inability to come to God aside from His Divine Grace. The proud, on the other hand, are so blinded by their pride that they think that they have no need of God, or worse, that God should accept them the way they are because they deserve His acceptance. Proverbs 16:18-19 says, “pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.” It is worth remembering that Satan was cast out of Heaven because of pride (Isaiah 14:12-15). He had the selfish audacity of wanting to replace God. However, defiance against God leads to nothing but disaster (Isaiah 14:22).

The Bondage of Pride

It has prevented them from accepting Jesus Christ as Savior. Sincerely admitting sin and acknowledging that in our own strength, we can do nothing to inherit eternal life is a constant stumbling block for prideful people. What Does The Bible Say About Being Proud Of Your Accomplishments? Can a Christian be proud of his/her accomplishments? Behold, it’s not necessarily wrong to take pride in our work as we thank God for the strength and guidance He gave us to accomplish it. It is important to understand that if we don’t, our work is likely to end up sloppy or incomplete. Remember how Apostle Paul urged his young companion Timothy to be “a worker who does not need to be ashamed” (2 Timothy 2:15). Nevertheless, the Bible warns us against a self-centered, egotistical pride that says, “have a look at me and see what I have accomplished!” But why is this wrong? The first and most important reason is that this type of pride cuts us off from God as we tend to take credit of our accomplishments.

The gifts and abilities that we have are from God who gave us the privilege and opportunity to use them. Therefore, when we take credit for what we have achieved, we remove God from the scene. Psalm 10:4 says, “In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” We should not allow such to happen to us. Another reason why this type of pride is wrong is because it makes us think that we are better than other people, and this separates us from them and makes us insensitive to their needs. Also, we may take advantage of them and use them for our selfish benefit. Proverbs 21:4 says, “Haughty eyes and a proud heart … produce sin.” Thus, we should all turn to Jesus Christ with a humble heart and acknowledge that all we have is from God.

What The Scriptures Say

The Bible says much about accomplishments and pride. However, there is a difference between the kind of pride that God hates (Proverbs 8:13) and the kind of pride we can feel about a job well done (Galatians 6:4) or the kind of pride that we express over the accomplishments of loved ones (2 Corinthians 7:4). The kind of pride that stems from self-righteousness or conceit is sin. This kind of pride is a hindrance to seeking God. According to Psalm 10:4, the proud are so consumed with themselves that their thoughts are far from God: “In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” Christ teaches that this kind of haughty pride is the opposite of the Spirit of humility that God desires from us: “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3).

Jesus Christ promises the Kingdom of God for those who are poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3). The “poor in spirit” are those who recognize their utter bankruptcy and their inability to come to God aside from His Divine Grace. The proud, on the other hand, are so blinded by their pride that they think that they have no need of God, or worse, that God should accept them the way they are because they deserve His acceptance. Proverbs 16:18-19 says, “pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.” It is worth remembering that Satan was cast out of Heaven because of pride (Isaiah 14:12-15). He had the selfish audacity of wanting to replace God. However, defiance against God leads to nothing but disaster (Isaiah 14:22).

The Bondage of Pride

Pride prevents one from acknowledging the power, strength, supremacy, ability, and sovereignty of God. Pride has kept many people in the bondage of sin. It has prevented them from accepting Jesus Christ as Savior. Sincerely admitting sin and acknowledging that in our own strength, we can do nothing to inherit eternal life is a constant stumbling block for prideful people. As Christians, we are not to boast about ourselves; if we must boast, we are to proclaim the glories of God Almighty, Father of Creation. Behold, what we say about ourselves is not that important but what God says about us is very important. In fact, our lives depend on what He says (2 Corinthians 10:18).

As a Christian, it is important to understand that pride is sinful because it is giving ourselves the credit for something that God has done. Pride is taking the glory that belongs to God Almighty alone and keeping it for ourselves. In other words, pride is self-worship. Behold, anything that we accomplish in the world would not have been possible if God didn’t strengthen and sustain us. In support of this, 1 Corinthians 4:7 says, “What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” With this in mind, we are to give glory to God in everything that we do and in everything that we achieve. Instead of being proud of our achievements, we should rather thank God for them as we acknowledge His sovereignty over our lives and everything that we have.

Is It Wrong To Be Proud Of Your Accomplishments? Can a Christian be proud of his/her accomplishments? Behold, it’s not necessarily wrong to take pride in our work as we thank God for the strength and guidance He gave us to accomplish it. It is important to understand that if we don’t, our work is likely to end up sloppy or incomplete. Remember how Apostle Paul urged his young companion Timothy to be “a worker who does not need to be ashamed” (2 Timothy 2:15). Nevertheless, the Bible warns us against a self-centered, egotistical pride that says, “have a look at me and see what I have accomplished!” But why is this wrong? The first and most important reason is that this type of pride cuts us off from God as we tend to take credit of our accomplishments.

The gifts and abilities that we have are from God who gave us the privilege and opportunity to use them. Therefore, when we take credit for what we have achieved, we remove God from the scene. Psalm 10:4 says, “In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” We should not allow such to happen to us. Another reason why this type of pride is wrong is because it makes us think that we are better than other people, and this separates us from them and makes us insensitive to their needs. Also, we may take advantage of them and use them for our selfish benefit. Proverbs 21:4 says, “Haughty eyes and a proud heart … produce sin.” Thus, we should all turn to Jesus Christ with a humble heart and acknowledge that all we have is from God.

What The Scriptures Say

The Bible says much about accomplishments and pride. However, there is a difference between the kind of pride that God hates (Proverbs 8:13) and the kind of pride we can feel about a job well done (Galatians 6:4) or the kind of pride that we express over the accomplishments of loved ones (2 Corinthians 7:4). The kind of pride that stems from self-righteousness or conceit is sin. This kind of pride is a hindrance to seeking God. According to Psalm 10:4, the proud are so consumed with themselves that their thoughts are far from God: “In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” Christ teaches that this kind of haughty pride is the opposite of the Spirit of humility that God desires from us: “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3).

Jesus Christ promises the Kingdom of God for those who are poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3). The “poor in spirit” are those who recognize their utter bankruptcy and their inability to come to God aside from His Divine Grace. The proud, on the other hand, are so blinded by their pride that they think that they have no need of God, or worse, that God should accept them the way they are because they deserve His acceptance. Proverbs 16:18-19 says, “pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.” It is worth remembering that Satan was cast out of Heaven because of pride (Isaiah 14:12-15). He had the selfish audacity of wanting to replace God. However, defiance against God leads to nothing but disaster (Isaiah 14:22).

The Bondage of Pride

Pride prevents one from acknowledging the power, strength, supremacy, ability, and sovereignty of God. Pride has kept many people in the bondage of sin. It has prevented them from accepting Jesus Christ as Savior. Sincerely admitting sin and acknowledging that in our own strength, we can do nothing to inherit eternal life is a constant stumbling block for prideful people. As Christians, we are not to boast about ourselves; if we must boast, we are to proclaim the glories of God Almighty, Father of Creation. Behold, what we say about ourselves is not that important but what God says about us is very important. In fact, our lives depend on what He says (2 Corinthians 10:18).

As a Christian, it is important to understand that pride is sinful because it is giving ourselves the credit for something that God has done. Pride is taking the glory that belongs to God Almighty alone and keeping it for ourselves. In other words, pride is self-worship. Behold, anything that we accomplish in the world would not have been possible if God didn’t strengthen and sustain us. In support of this, 1 Corinthians 4:7 says, “What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” With this in mind, we are to give glory to God in everything that we do and in everything that we achieve. Instead of being proud of our achievements, we should rather thank God for them as we acknowledge His sovereignty over our lives and everything that we have.

What Does The Bible Say About Accomplishments? Can a Christian be proud of his/her accomplishments? Behold, it’s not necessarily wrong to take pride in our work as we thank God for the strength and guidance He gave us to accomplish it. It is important to understand that if we don’t, our work is likely to end up sloppy or incomplete. Remember how Apostle Paul urged his young companion Timothy to be “a worker who does not need to be ashamed” (2 Timothy 2:15). Nevertheless, the Bible warns us against a self-centered, egotistical pride that says, “have a look at me and see what I have accomplished!” But why is this wrong? The first and most important reason is that this type of pride cuts us off from God as we tend to take credit of our accomplishments.

The gifts and abilities that we have are from God who gave us the privilege and opportunity to use them. Therefore, when we take credit for what we have achieved, we remove God from the scene. Psalm 10:4 says, “In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” We should not allow such to happen to us. Another reason why this type of pride is wrong is because it makes us think that we are better than other people, and this separates us from them and makes us insensitive to their needs. Also, we may take advantage of them and use them for our selfish benefit. Proverbs 21:4 says, “Haughty eyes and a proud heart … produce sin.” Thus, we should all turn to Jesus Christ with a humble heart and acknowledge that all we have is from God.

What The Scriptures Say

The Bible says much about accomplishments and pride. However, there is a difference between the kind of pride that God hates (Proverbs 8:13) and the kind of pride we can feel about a job well done (Galatians 6:4) or the kind of pride that we express over the accomplishments of loved ones (2 Corinthians 7:4). The kind of pride that stems from self-righteousness or conceit is sin. This kind of pride is a hindrance to seeking God. According to Psalm 10:4, the proud are so consumed with themselves that their thoughts are far from God: “In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” Christ teaches that this kind of haughty pride is the opposite of the Spirit of humility that God desires from us: “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3).

Jesus Christ promises the Kingdom of God for those who are poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3). The “poor in spirit” are those who recognize their utter bankruptcy and their inability to come to God aside from His Divine Grace. The proud, on the other hand, are so blinded by their pride that they think that they have no need of God, or worse, that God should accept them the way they are because they deserve His acceptance. Proverbs 16:18-19 says, “pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.” It is worth remembering that Satan was cast out of Heaven because of pride (Isaiah 14:12-15). He had the selfish audacity of wanting to replace God. However, defiance against God leads to nothing but disaster (Isaiah 14:22).

The Bondage of Pride

Pride prevents one from acknowledging the power, strength, supremacy, ability, and sovereignty of God. Pride has kept many people in the bondage of sin. It has prevented them from accepting Jesus Christ as Savior. Sincerely admitting sin and acknowledging that in our own strength, we can do nothing to inherit eternal life is a constant stumbling block for prideful people. As Christians, we are not to boast about ourselves; if we must boast, we are to proclaim the glories of God Almighty, Father of Creation. Behold, what we say about ourselves is not that important but what God says about us is very important. In fact, our lives depend on what He says (2 Corinthians 10:18).

As a Christian, it is important to understand that pride is sinful because it is giving ourselves the credit for something that God has done. Pride is taking the glory that belongs to God Almighty alone and keeping it for ourselves. In other words, pride is self-worship. Behold, anything that we accomplish in the world would not have been possible if God didn’t strengthen and sustain us. In support of this, 1 Corinthians 4:7 says, “What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” With this in mind, we are to give glory to God in everything that we do and in everything that we achieve. Instead of being proud of our achievements, we should rather thank God for them as we acknowledge His sovereignty over our lives and everything that we have.

What Does The Bible Say About Acceptance? When faced with a difficult situation, some people are likely to say “I give up.” Others are likely to disagree saying something like “I can work out something with God” or “If I pray in faith, I’ll get what I want.” Behold, these are the two extremes that are more likely to surface in discussions about events outside our control. As Christians, what is expected from us in the face of events or happenings that are outside our control? Should we give up? Should we resign ourselves to whatever life hands us? Or should we name-it-and-claim-it to change our destinies? What do the Scriptures really say about accepting events or situations we did not choose? Just as it is with almost every philosophical or spiritual discussion, truth is found somewhere between two extremes.

Neither total resignation nor “name-and-claim-it” is taught in the “whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27). Although elements of each are present, neither tells the whole story. To find the truth or where the balance lays, we must begin with what we know for certain: God is good, He does all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28), He is sovereign over His creation (Daniel 5:21; Psalm 83:18). It is important to understand here that sovereignty means that the One who created everything in existence has the power, might, knowledge, wisdom, and authority to do whatever He wishes with it (Psalm 135:6; Daniel 4:35). In support, Psalm 115:3 says, “Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.”

What The Bible Says About Acceptance

Note that God’s sovereignty does not imply that He decrees pain, sin, or rebellion. God does not lie, yet He permits lying. He does not sin, yet He allows sin to exist on the earth (Genesis 6:5; Romans 6:16). It is because of the curse that sin brought on the world (Genesis 3:14–19) that evil, pain, suffering, and rebellion are part of the human experience. The Bible makes us to understand that God sovereignly allows Satan to continue his reign of terror until the day he will be cast into the lake of fire forever (2 Corinthians 4:4; Revelation 20:10). It is without a doubt that Satan’s destructive work results in sufferings, heartaches, tragedies, poverty, pains, and a host of other evils that negatively impact our life experiences. When experiencing such calamities, we have choices in how we respond. And it is important that we respond appropriately.

In the Bible, we are told to bring our burdens to God “by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving” (Philippians 4:6). We are to “cast all our care upon Him because He cares for us” (1 Peter 5:7). Likewise, we are to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). In Luke 18:1–8, Jesus Christ makes use of an example of a widow petitioning a harsh judge so as to remind us to pray and not give up. He gave us another example when He Himself had to accept God’s answer. In the face of crucifixion, Jesus Christ pleaded with the Father to find another way to redeem mankind (Matthew 26:38–44). The Scriptures recount how on three occasions, Jesus cried out for deliverance from the looming torture. Amazingly, He did not stop there. He ended His prayer the way we must end ours: “Yet not my will but yours be done” (Luke 22:42).

What The Scriptures Say About Acceptance

As Christians, we need to understand that accepting God’s will is not passive resignation. Accepting His will is active; it is often the result of a process of contending with God, wrestling it out in prayer, repenting, fasting, and finally surrendering to His higher purposes for our existence. Let’s support our message by reading from Isaiah 46:9–11 – “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’ . . . What I have said, that I will bring about; what I have planned, that I will do.” Behold, acceptance recognizes that the Almighty God who spoke these words is still in control.

In many occasions, God waits for our prayers before He acts because He wants us to rely on Him, seek Him, and commune with Him so that He can show Himself strong on our behalf (check 2 Chronicles 16:9). In saving us, God brings glory to His name as we can read from Psalm 50:15 – “Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” Even when God’s deliverance does not look like what we think it should, acceptance rest in the sovereign goodness of God. Acceptance chooses to believe that “all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). Job modeled godly acceptance of tragic circumstances when he said, “Shall we receive good from the Lord and not evil?” (Job 2:10). When troubled, we should pray and trust God.

Matthew 7:1-29 – “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. …“

Romans 15:7 – “Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.”
