Bible Verses About Safety And Protection

As children of God, there are many Bible Verses About Safety And Protection worth knowing. There is much that the Bible say about safety. The Bible verses on safety and security are even of a greater importance since we dwell in an increasingly unsafe world. All who are conscious of the threats in this sin-cursed world are in search of safety and security. Armies are regularly facing each other across vast deserts, radical ideologies endanger millions, and nations arm themselves with nuclear weapons. The truth is that we face threats to our safety and that of our families on a daily basis. Today, physical safety is paramount in the midst of many people. Luckily enough, the Bible has much to say about safety, both physical and spiritual.

In the Old Testament, God clearly promised His people that they would dwell in the land He was giving them in all safety as along as they obeyed His commandments (Leviticus 25:18–19; 26:3–5; Deuteronomy 12:10). That is, the children of Israel were safe as long as they kept God’s Law. The Bible recounts how each time that God’s people rebelled or turned away from Him and followed other gods, their safety was highly threatened, resulting to disaster. The series of ups and downs recorded in the Biblical book of Judges clearly link ancient Israel’s national safety to their obedience to God’s commandments. That is, they were safe as long as they obeyed God’s Word. But each time that they disobeyed or turned away from Him, their nation faced disaster which rendered the place unsafe for anyone.

Bible Verses About Safety And Protection

In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word translated “safety” means “a place of refuge; security, confidence, trust, hope.” The name of the Lord God Almighty is like a strong tower into which the righteous run and find safety (Proverbs 18:10). As children of God, we find safety in His presence by trusting in His ability to keep us protected from all harm (Proverbs 29:25). Just like the Old Testament, the New Testament also points to our physical safety. Jesus Christ spoke of carrying a sword for protection (Luke 22:36), and Apostle Paul was kept safe on several occasions from those who were seeking to harm him physically (Acts 9:25; 17:10; 19:30; 23:10). However, the New Testament focuses more on spiritual safety, i.e., Salvation or Eternal Life which is achieved in Christ.

Spiritual safety is found in none but Christ. We obtain spiritual safety which frees us from the Lake of Fire through faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ as atonement for our sins (John 3:17; Acts 2:21; 4:12; Romans 10:9; Ephesians 2:8). That is, Jesus Christ was sent to the world by God the Father to provide spiritual safety and eternal security to all the people who would believe in Him. With this in mind, we can undoubtedly say that the need for physical safety pales in comparison to the universal need for spiritual safety in Christ. It is important to understand here that one may be in great danger of physical harm in this world and still maintain the assurance of an eternity of security in Heaven. In Christ, we fear not those who can hurt the body but can never come close to the soul (Matthew 10:28).

What does the Scripture say about Safety and Protection?

There is much that the Scripture say about safety and protection. It is rather unfortunate that many are deceived into thinking that true security is provided by the things of this world, i.e., money, wealth, position, comforts, or power. But then, the safety from these things is fleeting and temporary. Learn from the Scripture that says we should not put our hope on the riches of this world for they “surely sprout wings and fly off” (Proverbs 23:5). In simple terms, nothing is sure in this world as we can read from Ecclesiastes 9:11 – “The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.” Psalm 91:4 says, “Under His wings, shall you trust and find refuge.”

Brethren, let no one deceive you to think that any amount of worldly foundation can provide security in Heaven. It was in the same light that Apostle Paul spoke of a time to come when God would return the Earth. When that time comes, all those who trust in anything other than Jesus CHRIST will find out that they have nor peace nor safety. Let’s support this point by reading from 1 Thessalonians 5:2–3 – “For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, ‘Peace and safety!’ then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.” God Himself is our shelter and refuge as we can read from Psalm 61:3 – “[God] hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.”

Facts about Safety and Protection in the Lord

God is the only one who can give true security and protect us from all harm through Jesus Christ. With this in mind, those who have genuine wisdom will fear the Lord God Almighty, and Him alone. Proverbs 3:23–26 says, “Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.” It is really comforting to learn that God has promised to protect His people. We might not all be on the front lines of a natural war, but we are all facing a common enemy who intends to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).

However, we must always remember that our God is more powerful than the devil (our common enemy). By making God our refuge, we have security in Him. Just like a newborn wrapped in a warm, secure blanket, God wraps those who put their trust in Him in His arms of love, power, justice, protection, safety, and guidance. Psalm 91 has taken many safely through all kinds of danger and war. For instance, we’ve heard of a commander in the Vietnam War who made all his troops quote Psalm 91 on a daily basis – whether they liked it or not. Behold, it paid off! His company didn’t have one casualty. We’ve also heard of a similar testimony about a group of soldiers in World War II from a small town by name Seadrift, Texas. The women of Seadrift prayed Psalm 91 everyday over those men, and all returned home safely.

Five (5) ways God keeps you safe in a dangerous world

1. God’s protection means that you are inaccessible to the enemy

The Bible tells us that God encircles, covers, encompasses, and shields all those who make Him their refuge. God’s presence with a person is a kind of force field of protection that makes him/her inaccessible to the enemy no matter the circumstances at hand. It is in this divine force field of protection that men and women all-through the ages have been able to walk unharmed despite the types of dangerous situations that came their way. That’s how Daniel survived the lions’ den. The Scripture recounts how the lions couldn’t get close to him because a tangible force field of God’s protection resulting from His presence with Daniel was in place (Daniel 6:16-22). Hence, God was Daniel’s refuge in the lion pit.

Likewise, God was a refuge to Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the fiery furnace. Their faithfulness moved God’s hand of protection to save them even in the midst of a fiery furnace. Behold, a circle of God’s power – the tangible force of His anointing – kept Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego safe in the fiery furnace which was prepared for them by their enemies. None of them smelled of smoke (Daniel 3:12-27). An Angle, “like the Son of God” was with them in the furnace for their safety. Truth be told, this same protection belongs to us today who dwell in the presence of the Most High (Psalm 91:1). Keep in mind that God is always faithful. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). That is, we can confidently put our trust in Him for safety.

2. God has covered all His children with a garment of light

We learn from the Scripture that God Himself is encircled with a garment of light. Psalm 104:1-2 says, “O Lord my God…You are clothed with honor and majesty—[You are the One] Who covers Yourself with light as with a garment…” The Bible further tells us that God is the light of Heaven, His throne. This Scripture describes the glory of God. Note that God created Adam in His image and “crowned him with glory and honour” (Psalm 8:5). There is a Jewish commentary on Psalm 93 that tells us, , “As he sang God’s praises, Adam truly looked Divine, because he was a reflection of God’s image.” By reflecting on this, we picture Adam looking like God. That is, he was clothed in the glory of God – he wore a garment of light. Unfortunately, Adam rebelled against God and this glory departed from him.

Rebellion caused Adam to lose the crown of honor that was given to him by God. But thank God, Jesus got back everything in the Redemption that Adam lost in the fall. Hence, as believers in Jesus Christ, we are temples of the Living God. And as a result, God goes everywhere that we go when we are filled with Him. Since God lives in us, we radiate His presence and love. We can rest peacefully knowing that He has covered us with a garment, or shield of light that keeps us safe from the enemy. Although we might not be able to see this light of God’s presence, the spirit realm (including the devil and demons) do see. Indeed, they see and recognize the glory of God on us. On occasional cases, this light is visible to the natural eye as was the case with Moses (Exodus 34:29).

3. Shield yourself with the word of God so that no fiery dart of the devil can penetrate your life

Even as a Christian with the Holy Spirit dwelling in you, never forget your shield of faith. It is this shield of faith through the power of the indwelling Spirit of God in you that will deviate, destroy, and prevent any dart from the devil aimed at hurting you. You make this possible by learning what the Scripture says about safety and standing firm on it knowing that God never fails. It is in this light that we are writing to present the best Bible verses on safety and protection. Failing to know what the Word of God says about your protection is giving a chance to the devil to attack you.

You can’t claim what you are ignorant about. Likewise, you won’t have faith to activate the protection if you don’t know what God’s Word is saying about your safety. Remember that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Hence, you must know His word to have any basis of faith. By keeping a shield of the word over your life, no fiery dart of the devil will successfully penetrate your life. Hard-times, challenges, persecutions, and rejections might come, but you must refuse to be discouraged and keep your focus and trust on what God’s word says about you. The Scripture says that as followers of Christ, we walk by faith and not by sight. Hence, we should choose what God says over what our eyes see. Our faith should be build on the word of God and not on our physical situation or circumstance.

4. Allow the Joy of the Lord to be your strength

Brethren, let the joy of the Lord God Almighty be your strength. It is without doubt that we all desire to dwell in the presence of God where there is not only safety but “fulness of joy” (Psalm 16:11). The Jewish people believe that the Spirit of God will not manifest where there is Sadness and Depression. Up to some extent, this makes sense because if you are sad, it likely means that you are not believing God who works out everything for the good of those who love Him as pointed out by Apostle Paul (Romans 8:28). A person who is afraid or feeling defeated is one who is out of faith. Part of the curse in Deuteronomy 28 clearly says, “And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life” (verse 66).

When we look at things from all angles, we realize that negative emotions can’t get a foothold in our lives unless we turn loose the promises of God that reassure us of His care, protection, provision, and guidance. That is why it is important for us to live by faith and absolute trust in God for who He says He is and for what He says He will do. In God, we have been delivered from the whole curse of fear, and insecurity. In Him, we are protected from danger, sickness, lack, or any other bad thing that is found under the curse. Prophet Isaiah said under the influence of the Holy Spirit that we have been healed by the stripes of Jesus Christ (Isaiah 53:5). God promises us in Psalm 91, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name” (verse 14).

5. The level of your security or safety is determined by how much time and value you give to God and His Word in your life

The Bible tells us that we should put God first in our lives and all other things will get in place and move smoothly (Matthew 6:33). Brethren, it isn’t really difficult to dwell in the Secret Place, the place of protection with God. All you need to do is to attach yourself more to God. Th Scripture says that anyone who moves closer to God will experience Him in a higher level. Go after the things of God. Regularly study His Word; if possible on a daily basis. God has given us a free will, and it’s left for us to choose either to attach ourselves to Him or not. However, He longs to see us coming to Him out of our free will. It is in the same light that we chose to attach ourselves with Him for protection.

If we chose to make the Lord God Almighty our protector, we should also be ready to walk it out. Here, “walking out” means believe in God, maintaining an absolute trust in His Word, rebuking fear, standing on what He says and speaking His promises as our defense against fiery darts from the enemy. In the Tehillim, the commentary on Psalm 121 says, “To the extent that man pays attention to the word of [God] and safeguards His commands, [God] will safeguard him.” In other words, your security or safety will depend on how much time and value you give to God in your life. The scripture makes mention of  “ye of little faith” and only you decide if this saying applies to you. Hence, if you give God a little of your time, you will have a little faith that will lead to little results and vice verse.
