What Does The Bible Say About Health? Behold, good health is something that we take for granted until we begin to lose it. Immediately our health takes a down-turn, we begin to question question our habits and diet. God skillfully designed the human body to be a finely tuned instrument that happens to be the most resilient on earth. The human body is able to endure fractures, and adhesion, great stretches of tedium, and constant pain. Although able to endure all these challenges, it still remains a fragile instrument when faced with extreme conditions. The body a not build to handle excess, whether in the form of additives, nourishment, or fuel. Unlike machines, our bodies chokes on Poisson when ingested in unending doses or when mistaken for fuel.
Though our bodies basically have thinking, feeling, and moving parts, they can be misused. Luckily enough, God has provided us with what we can call the “owner’s manual” that informs us on how to operate or run the human body. That special manual is the Bible, God’s word. It contains special instructions for proper maintenance, physical and spiritual well-being. Although the Bible is not a medical manual, it is God’s word. It is without doubt that in the Bible, God clearly reveals many basic principles for good physical, mental and spiritual health. A major part of the Bible’s health principles dates back to the time of Moses. Today, despite the time that has passed since the time of Moses, medical doctors and researchers are stunned at the accuracy and effectiveness of these health principles which were given some thousands of years ago.
What Does The Bible Say About Health?
What the Scriptures say about Health
The Wycliffe Bible Encyclopedia clearly tells us about the Laws that were given to Moses by God on rules pertaining to public health: sewage disposal, water and food contamination, health education, and infectious diseases. Truth be told, these issues were all dealt with in the Mosaic Law. Hence, we can say without fear of contradiction that the Bible gives us the foundation key to physical and mental health. The key is simple as we can read from Proverbs 3:1-2, 8 – “My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity . . . This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.” Brethren, you shouldn’t be surprise that obedience to God’s commands brings good health and longevity.
The Bible tells us that as our creator, God knows what is best for us. Let’s read this from Ecclesiastes 12:13 – “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” It is important to understand here that some Biblical principles about health are specific,. Let’s get an example from Exodus 15:26 – “If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”
A lesson to learn from the fall of the Egyptians
The ancient Egyptians actually suffered from the kinds of diseases that have ravaged and terrified mankind throughout history. Autopsies which were carried out on Egyptian mummies have revealed evidence of arthritis, cancer, arteriosclerosis, gallstones, parasitic diseases, tuberculosis, smallpox, and bladder stones. It is worth noting here that they suffered from most of these diseases because they did not understand the Laws on health principles that were given to Moses by God Almighty. The Biblical instructions regarding well-being, health, maintenance, and recovery from illness involve applications of cause-and-effect principles. These principles are based in true science and were given thousands of years ago before scientist actually developed the technology that enabled them to discover germs, viruses, bacteria, genes, and the like.
Modern medical science has discovered many principles of good health. But all these principles actually originated with God who designed and created the wonderful and amazing miracle known as the “human body.” In simple terms, what the Bible actually says about health is that whoever follows God or remains faithful to His commands will generally be healthy. Behold, this does not necessarily mean that does who do not follow God’s commands will always be sick. Nor are we saying that God’s people will be absolutely free from sickness or disease. 3 John 1:2 says, “I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” Behold, God is more interested in our spiritual health than our physical well-being. He desires that we Sincerely Repent and obey the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ for Eternal Life.
