What Does The Bible Say About Receiving?

What Does The Bible Say About Receiving? Christ commanded us to love one another. Jesus says in John 15:12-14 that “My commandment is this: love one another, just as I have loved you. The greatest love a person can have for his friends is to give his life for them. And you are my friends if you do what I command you.” Behold, we’ve received the life of Jesus Christ. Yes! Out of love for us, the Son of God willing gave us His life. In Him, we can give because we first received. There is nothing that we have that does not come from God. The Bible tells us that all things in Heaven and on Earth belong to God. We should in turn express this love that was first shown to us by giving and serving others.

During Jesus’ last earthly hours with His disciples, He sets a powerful example to serve one another by washing their feet and giving them a new commandment which was to focus on loving others as He had loved them. Let’s support this by reading from John 13:35 – “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” The Scriptural book of Acts recounts how the early church took this command serious. In fact they took it at heart and observed it with all diligence. We are told that believers met together in their homes to break bread, teach, and worship God. In addition, they sold their possessions and shared freely with those in need (Acts 2:45 and Acts 4:35).

What Does The Bible Say About Receiving?

What does the Scripture say about Receiving?

In Christ we have freely received God’s special gift of Eternal Life. Behold, we received this free gift out of grace (unmerited favor). All you need to get into its possession is to Believe, Sincerely Repent, and start obeying the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ. The Truth is that God Almighty is willing and ready to give us His Kingdom thereby saving us from the Fire of Hell through Jesus Christ, His beloved Son (John 3:16). Believing brings and unites us in Christ. It is important to understand here that the body of believers is meant to be a community that is governed by love with people that are willing and ready to bless one another immediately need arises. One of the greatest ways through which love is manifested is through the godly act of giving without expecting anything in return.

As stated by Prophet TB Joshua, “love looks around to see who is in need so that it can extend a helping hand.” Notice in this saying that love does not sit-back waiting for those in need to ask or beg but it steps out looking for them to bless. Brethren, if God has blessed you, do not increase the height of the fence surrounding your house but rather enlarge your table to accommodate more people as you share the blessings of God with them. The Bible clearly tells us that God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). Jesus Christ Himself taught that it is better to Give than to Receive (Acts 20:35). However, whenever others give to us, we should receive with gratitude so that God can also bless them for being cheerful. Likewise, we should also be cheerful at all times.

Facts about Receiving

Receiving a gift with gratitude is a sign of a healthy, humble spirit, which is pleasing to God Almighty. It is worth pointing to the fact that both Pride and low self-esteem prevent us from participating in the body of Christ. One might ask how? Both prevent us from seeing ourselves as God does: One of His children and an equal heir to His Kingdom (Luke 12:32). Matthew 18:3-4 says, “And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

In addition, John 17:21-23 says, “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou has sent me, and hast loved them, as thou has loved me.”
