What Does The Bible Say About The Almighty God?

What Does The Bible Say About The Almighty God? For sure there is much that the Bible says about the Almighty God. Under the light of purity, the Bible points to an illuminating glimpse of the sovereign and unfathomable character or personality of God. From childhood till date, we’ve been hearing people voicing out the words ‘Almighty God‘. With this in mind, we are likely to ask the question, ‘How is God Almighty?‘ It is important to understand here that the name “Almighty God” or “God Almighty” which is attributed to the Lord of Heaven and Earth in the Old Testament is derived from the Hebrew name El Shaddai. It is literally translated as “God, the All Powerful.” You might be asking yourself why this name or how it came about in the midst of Israel’s children.

The Hebrew name El Shaddai (God, the All Powerful) came in contrast of the numerous gods worshiped by the nations surrounding Israel. Behold, God was to be known as the Almighty God who reigns over Heaven and Earth. Heaven is God’s throne and Earth is his footstool. God’s power is sovereign over all creation. The first use of the Hebrew name El Shaddai is found in Genesis 17:1 – “When Abram was 99 years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am the Almighty God. Obey me and always do what is right.” This is a spiritual message that was revealed during God’s encounter with Abraham. We perceive the Lord, Father of Creation, referring to Himself by this name, saying, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless.” And because God is who He says He is, this name has been maintained till date.

What is God like?

Perhaps you are among those who at one point in their lives asked the question ‘What is God like?’ There is nothing bad about asking this question. It is but just normal to desire knowing the Father of Creation. All what we have about God’s personality and nature is what was written down by his Prophets and Messengers. We can find this information both in the Old Testament and New Testament. However, we’ll pour more light on how God is like in respect of what He has revealed of Himself. But before we proceed, it is worth pointing to the fact that human words can not fully explain the nature of God nor can the human brain hold the completeness of God’s nature.

We are certain of the truth that God is so glorious that no man can see him and live. Exodus 33:20 – “I will not let you see my face, because no one can see me and stay alive.” Behold Brethren, God is so far above human understanding and comprehension that we don’t even no where to start nor begin to fathom the depths of his divine character. Before his greatness and sovereignty, the whole universe is not different in insignificance as an ant before an elephant. However, we were luckily to have God reveal himself to us by giving us a small glimpse of his glory. He offered to us a small glimpse of his glory which is like bright light shining in through the cracks in a door covering a dark room. Below are facts which are derived from the best Bible verses about the Almighty God.

1. God is righteous – Psalm 119:137

Psalm 119:137 – “Righteous are You, O Lord, and upright are Your judgments.” God is all righteous in thought, word, and action. In everything that God is, He is always righteous. Every action He takes, every decision He makes is always just and right. God does not make mistakes neither does he act unfairly. Not even Christians by name will get off easier from His judgement room than the others. He will judge everyone according to the same standards as we can read from Romans 2:11 – “For there is no partiality with God.” At the right time, God will sit on his throne and judge everyone according to his/her actions.

2. God is love – 1 John 4:7-8

1 John 4:7-8 – “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” Brethren, let no one deceive you by saying the contrary. God is love. Almost everyone if not everyone knows that God is love. Even some unbelievers know that God is love. However, we must be careful to get it right because there is a deep spiritual meaning behind this saying. It is without doubt that God loves people more than they can ever imagine. God has thoughts of a bright future and a hope for each and everyone of us. In case of doubt, you can read this from Jeremiah 29:11 – “I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.” It is clear that out of Love, God wants you to prosper materially and spiritually.

God manifested his love to us even when we were still dwelling in sin. Remember the ultimate sacrifice he made for our sake. It was out of an immeasurable love that He had for mankind that He sent his beloved son, Jesus Christ, to come and be sacrificed as the lamb that takes away the sins of the world. Today, anyone who welcomes this sacrifice of blood which was made on the cross at Calvary and strives for obedience to the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ is given everlasting life in God’s presence. Just as Christ was raise from death, all his followers will be brought back to life so they can dwell in the presence of God. To be counted among his followers, you’ll need to Sincerely Repent from your sins and start respecting the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ. Also read the Best Bible Verses About Love.

3. God is forgiving – 1 John 2:1

1 John 2:1 – “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” The Almighty God is a forgiving God. In his infinite love, he forgives, forgives, and forgives. But we must be careful not to take his forgiving mind or nature for granted. Behold, taking his forgiving nature for granted is not different from playing with fire. And he who plays with fire knows what will happen next. In asking for forgiveness from God, we should come in sincerity with no intention to get back doing the things we did wrong.

In as much as we ask for forgiveness from God, we should also adopt a forgiving heart for all those who wrong us. Failing to forgive those who wrong us will call on God to hold our sins against us. But if we unconditionally forgive all those who wrong us without setting limits for the number of times we forgive them, God will also do same for us. 4. God is Almighty – Isaiah 40:28-29

Isaiah 40:28-29 – “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.” All things are possible to God because He is almighty. God can do anything and everything at his own time. He created Heaven and Earth together with all that dwells in them. He merits our acknowledgement and praise. Also read the Bible Verses About Acknowledging God.

5. God is Patient – Romans 15:5

Romans 15:5 – “Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus.” The Almighty God is a patient God. He patiently waits for us to come to him in repentance through Christ and be counted among the faithful. If not because of his patience, he would have already destroyed the world to get rid of evil. But in his loving nature, he is giving us more time to acknowledge our sins and come back to him before he brings the end of the world. However, you must not also take his patience for granted. Taking his patience for granted is getting into a deep whole which you might likely not be able to come out. Repent and turn to him with a faith heart when it is still day time. Jesus Christ will soon come for judgement.

6. God is unchanging and eternal – Psalm 90:2

Psalm 90:2 – “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” Brethren, let no one deceive you by saying the contrary. God is always the same. He has not changed from who He was yesterday. He is the same today, yesterday and forever as we can also read from Hebrews 13:8. His ways, love, patience, forgiveness, wrath, and laws are the same today as they were in the times of the Hebrew people some thousands of years ago. And they’ll continue on into eternity forever. God is final, he is absolute, and He expects us to live by the laws he gave some thousand years ago till eternity. Remember what he said to Moses in Exodus 13:14 – “And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’”

7. God is Wrath – Romans 1:18

Romans 1:18 – “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.” Behold, God is love, He is patient, He is forgiving, and He is also wrath. Note here that God’s wrath is not over people but on sin. God hates sin because He knows how damaging and devastating it is. Remember that it is sin that brought death into the world. Sin is punishable before God. It is also worth pointing to the fact that he offers mercy out of his grace which was released on mankind by Jesus Christ. Sincerely repent and turn away from your sins and you’ll be located in God’s mercy and favor through Christ.
