Benson Idahosa Raising The Dead

It is without a doubt that during the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ, he raised many dead people. The Bible tells us that He went about doing good. Throughout his earthly ministry, he healed all who came to him with sicknesses of all kinds.

The Bible tells us that he gave sight to the blind, strengthened the legs of the lame to walk, opened the ears of the deaf to hear, commanded the dumb to speak, and liberated all those who were under the captivity of Satan.

Remember what Jesus Christ said in John 14 verse 12 ” Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

In this verse, Jesus Christ is telling us that anyone who believes in Him will be able to do the things that He deed and even do greater things.

Hence, we can say that it is all about faith in God for the Bible says that all things are possible for God to do. Likewise, the Bible says that all things are possible for he that believes. It is important to note that the impossible exists only in the human realm and not in that of God. Apart from Jesus Christ, a good number of prophets in the Bible also raised many dead people.

Below are cases in the Bible that the dead were brought back to life:

1. Elijah raised the son of the Zarephath widow from the dead (1 Kings 17 Verses 17 to 22).

2. Elisha raised the son of the Shunammite woman from the dead (2 Kings 4 Verses 32 to 35).

3. A man was raised from the dead when his body touched Elisha’s bones (2 Kings 13 Verse 20, and 21)

4. Many saints rose from the dead at the resurrection of Jesus (Matthew 27 Verse 50 to 53).

5. Jesus rose from the dead (Matthew 28 Verse 5 to 8; Mark 16 Verse 6; Luke 24 Verse 5, and 6).

6. Jesus raised the son of the widow of Nain from the dead (Luke 7 Verses 11 to 15).

7. Jesus raised the daughter of Jairus from the dead (Luke 8 Verse 41, 42, 49 to 55).

8. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11 Verse 1-44). 9. Peter raised Dorcas from the dead (Acts 9 Verse 36-41).

10. Eutychus was raised from the dead by Paul (Acts 20 Verse 9, 10).

Behold, Jesus Christ raised the dead, His immediate Apostles deed the same just as He had said in John 14 Verse 12. Jesus said anyone who believes in Him will do what he deed and even do greater things because he was going to the Father Almighty. His immediate Apostles believed and it worked for them. What of us today? Are we not also believers who share the same faith with the Apostles of Old. Of course, we are because Jesus Christ does not change. Hebrews 13 Verse 8 tells us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. It is in this light that Archbishop Benson Idahosa stepped out in faith to raise a dead and it worked. Glory be to God.

Let’s hear him from his own words: “As a young Christian, I once heard my pastor say during a morning service that Christians could raise the dead in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I believed it with all my heart. And flying around on my bicycle in those days, I went through the city of Benin in search of a dead person to raise to life. After about five hours of hard searching I found a compound where a little girl had died a few hours before. The corpse had been cleaned and prepared for burial. I walked boldly up to the father of the dead child. “The God whom I serve can bring your baby back to life,” I told him. “Will you permit me to pray for the child and bring her back to life?” The man was startled, but he agreed. With great enthusiasm, I walked into the room and up to the bed. The child was cold and dead. With strong faith in the Lord, I called on the Lord to restore the child back to life. I turned to the corpse and called it by name, “Arise in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Oh Glory to God! The corpse sneezed, heavily, alas. The child had come back to life!”

20 Powerful Faith Quotes By Archbishop Benson Andrew Idahosa

The name Archbishop Benson Andrew Idahosa is one that can’t be forgotten in a generation that desires to worship a living God. Yes, I mean a living God. Although gone, his message about the living God is still laying hands on many and taking the faith of many to maturity. In fact, his messages are clothing young men and women with the power to uproot the evil in this generation. He was the kind of preacher that we find 1 in the midst of every 1,000.

With mere words backed by the One Who Sent him, he was able to call down physical and spiritual fire from heaven, instantly call blindness, paralysis, or death on anyone standing on the way of the Holy Gospel or one preventing the Truth from being known (Here, one can only remember how Prophet Elijah called down fire on a whole army sent to stop the work of God in his days).

In the days of Archbishop Benson Idahosa, raising the dead, healing all kinds of sicknesses, opening the eyes of the blind, restoring the speech of the dumb, opening the ears of the deaf, and opening the eyes of the blind were indeed the children’s bread. Father, we miss your days. Just as Elijah left something behind, do not accept to dwell peacefully where you are without pleading with God to continue what you started in our generation. We do not want the Power and Authority that accompanied you and Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola to leave us. The world can only praise God and marvel at the things that He did through you:

  • A man who called down rain and it rained.
  • A man who commanded the rain to stop and it did.
  • A man who commanded the dead to rise and they did
  • A man who drove away hundreds of witches and wizards in Benin and thousands in Nigeria as a whole.
  • A man whose presence demons, wizards, witches, and familiar spirits could not withstand.
  • A man who communicated with the invisible and visible.
  • A man who called the invisible into existence and it came.
  • A man whose words were a mixture of fire and power (1 Corinthians 4:20)
  • A man who shook the heavenly places as he went around doing the things everyone had concluded impossible.
  • A man who fought not for a title but was crowned the Father Of Faith In Africa.
  • A man that this generation and that to come will remember and give thanks to God for sending him.
  • A spiritual father and guide to thousands if not millions.
  • A man whose anointing is too heavy for a mere human to carry.
  • Filled with the Epikaizo Anointing and clothed with the power of the Allos Parakletos, Benson Idahosa went about doing good.
  • A man whose anointing, grace, power, and authority in Christ is still roaming the Earth looking for young men and women who are willing to follow Jesus Christ and run the Christian race in dimensions no one has ever heard of nor experienced.
  • A man who saw the defeat of Satan before being taken away from the Earth.

What Does The Bible Say About Pastors Committing Adultery?

What Does The Bible Say About Pastors Committing Adultery

What Does The Bible Say About Pastors Committing Adultery? Cheating by a spouse is referred to as adultery. But what does the Bible actually say about cheating or adultery? This is the question we’ll be answering throughout this piece of write-up. The word adultery is etymologically related to the word adulterate, which means “to render something poorer in quality by adding another substance.” Hence, we can say without doubt that adultery is the adulteration of marriage by the addition of a third person. In simple terms we can as well say that adultery is the voluntary sexual activity between a married person and someone other than his/her spouse. The Bible clearly begins its teachings on marriage with the pattern of Adam and Eve: one man and one woman, husband and wife, both united by God Almighty (Genesis 2:24, Mark 10:7–9).

Adultery is strictly forbidden by the seventh commandment which reads, “You shall not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14). Since this prohibition was simply stated without any explanation, we can conclude that the meaning of adultery was well understood in the time that Moses gave the Law. It is important to understand here that Scripture is consistent in the prohibition against adultery. Despite the clarity of the original pattern of marriage and the strict prohibition against adultery, sinful humanity has managed to develop ways aimed at blurring the lines of morality. Here, we can say that polygamy is one of the ways through which the prohibition against adultery has been to some extent circumvented. Although polygamy is not technically considered as adultery, it does adulterate God’s original plan for marriage. Although God allowed polygamy in the Old Testament, He did not endorse it.

What Does The Bible Say About Pastors Committing Adultery?

Marriage is a sacred covenant between a couple. Just as previously mentioned, adultery was allowed in the Old Testament by God but He did not endorse it. Polygamy was not considered as adultery because, although a third party (or perhaps fourth, fifth, sixth, etc) was added into the marriage, the additional woman or women were included legally. Note that a polygamist who indulged in sexual activities with anyone other than his legal wives was committing adultery. And since polygamy is generally illegal in most modern countries today, no third person can be legally added to a marriage. Another way that the prohibition against adultery has been circumvented is through Divorce and Remarriage. Any married man or woman having an affair is committing adultery. It is rather unfortunate that if he/she divorces his/her spouse and marries the other, he/she still maintains his/her “legal” footing.

However, Jesus Christ puts both of these “strategies” to rest as we can read from Luke 16:18 – “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery.” Likewise Mark 10:11–12 says, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.” According to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, divorce does not circumvent the prohibition against adultery. If upon seeing another woman, a married man desires her sexually, divorces his wife, and marries her, he is still committing adultery. The marriage bond is one that is expected to last for a lifetime. This is to say that divorce does not release one from the responsibility of remaining faithful to the original spouse. (Relatedly, the Bible allows divorce in some cases, and, when divorce is allowed, remarriage is also allowed without being considered adulterous.)

What The Scriptures Say About Pastors Committing Adultery?

In the Scriptures, Jesus Christ carried the prohibition against adultery even further than the Mosaic Law: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:27–28). Therefore, even if a man does his best to “legally” avoid adultery by requesting for a divorce, he is already guilty because of the lust in his heart that drove him into taking such measures. Likewise, if a man “legally” brings another woman into the marriage, rendering it a polygamous marriage, he is still guilty of adultery because of the lust in his heart that motivated him to go for another wife.

Still in the light of the words spoken by Christ, if a man or woman indulges into lustful thoughts (pornography is especially problematic), then he/she is guilty of adultery even-though there was no extramarital physical contact that took place. This clear explanation by Jesus Christ avoids all of the worries about “how far is too far” with someone other than a spouse. Also, it avoids the need to define what “sex” really is. Lust, not sex, is the threshold of adultery.

Facts on what the Scriptures say about Pastors Committing Adultery?

Proverbs 6 gives us some stern warnings about committing adultery, giving “correction and instruction . . . keeping you from your neighbor’s wife” (verses 23–24). Solomon says,
Do not lust in your heart after her beauty
or let her captivate you with her eyes. . . .
Another man’s wife preys on your very life.
Can a man scoop fire into his lap
without his clothes being burned?
Can a man walk on hot coals
without his feet being scorched?
So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife;
no one who touches her will go unpunished
” (verses 25–29).

According to the Scriptures, adultery is deadly serious and does brings consequences. “A man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself” (Proverbs 6:32; cf. 1 Corinthians 6:18 and Hebrews 13:4). Living in adultery is giving evidence that you do not truly know Christ. However, adultery is not unforgivable, either. Every sin that a Christian commits can be forgiven through repentance. And any sin committed by an unbeliever can be forgiven in Christ. 1 Corinthians 6:9–11 says, “Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers . . . will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Biblical definition of Adultery? What does adultery mean?

Old Testament Definition

Adultery was defined and understood in the Old Testament as sexual relations between a married (or betrothed) woman and a man other than her husband. Thus, it was considered a sin against her husband.

New Testament Definition

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior did extend the definition of adultery to include a married man and a woman other than his wife (Mark 10:11-12, Luke 16:18). It is in this way that other New Testament teachings perceive it (1 Corinthians 6:15-16, 1 Corinthians 7:2 ).
Hence, we can conclusively define adultery as the sin of a married man having sexual relations with anyone other than his wife or a married woman having sexual relations with anyone other than her husband.

2. If a spouse is unable to have sex, is it okay to have sex with someone else? Are there exceptions?

A good number of people wonder whether there are exceptions in cases that the spouse cannot or will not have sex, or if the couple is separated, or better still, for other reasons. However, the Bible does not give any exception for a spouse to have sex with anyone apart from his/her partner.

3. What Did Jesus say about adultery?

Jesus Christ says in Matthew 5:27-28 – “You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

In the same light, Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 7:2-5 – “But because there is so much sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman should have her own husband. The husband should fulfill his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband’s needs. The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife. Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won’t be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control.”

The truth is that “office romance” as well as other extramarital affairs usually cause tremendous emotional pain to the spouse whether sexual intercourse is involved or not. In addition to this, it is without doubt that sexual attraction clouds judgement and often leads to actual sexual relations, even when that was not the original intent.

4. What does the Bible say about adultery?

Adultery is one of the most frowned against sins in the Bible. In fact, it is one of the most frequent and highly condemned sin in the Bible. Adultery is mentioned 52 times in the Bible, including in the 10 Commandments, all 4 Gospels and other Biblical books. The only sins mentioned more often than this are the sins of idolatry, murder, and self-righteousness.
Exodus 20:14 says, “You shall not commit adultery.
Matthew 15:19–20 says, “For out of the heart come evil intentions, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile.”
Luke 18:18-20 says, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments, ‘Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not bear false witness, honor your father and mother.’

Hebrews 13:4 says, “Let marriage be held in honor by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled; for God will judge fornicators and adulterers.”

5. What does the Bible teach about divorcing a spouse for adultery?

The Bible mentions adultery as ground for divorce (Matthew 5:31-32, 19:9) but does not require it. In most cases, both the husband and wife can be reconciled and the marriage saved even after adultery.

6. Is it a sin to continue living with a spouse that has committed adultery?

Note that it is not a sin to continue living and having sex with a spouse that committed adultery. (However, the risk of sexually transmitted diseases should be considered and precautions taken). This should not be an issue if both partners have been reconciled to each other and forgiveness has taken place.

7. Will God forgive me for committing adultery?

As it is with other sins, God will forgive the sin of adultery if a person sincerely repents and also forgives other people. 1 Corinthians 6:9–11 makes us to understand that in the Corinthian church there were former adulterers, but they had been washed clean from their sin, sanctified, and justified through Christ.

8. What are the lasting damages of adultery?

Although God will forgive adultery, the damages it causes often cannot be undone. Truth be told, it is extremely hurtful to the spouse. In most cases, it leads to divorce thereby living the separated partners with lots of bitterness in their hearts. Children from divorced families are prone to anxiety, low school performance, drug addiction, and delinquent behavior. Such issues are likely to extend till their adulthood. That’s why spouses should always do their best to save their homes from crumbling.

9. What should be the response of a Christian whose spouse has had an affair?

It is without doubt that infidelity creates a very difficult and painful situation, one that brings to the scene all emotions, and, for the Christian, can stretch faith to almost a breaking point. When faced with such, the best thing to do is to “turn all your worries over to Him. He cares about you” (1 Peter 5:7). As Christians, we should always turn to the Lord God Almighty any time that we are hurt in order to seek for wisdom, direction, comfort, joy, peace, and a forgiving heart. Behold, God is able and willing to help us even in the deepest of trials. Keep in mind that adultery is always wrong. In support of this, Hebrews 13:4 says, “God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” Here, the injured spouse should rest in the truth that God is the avenger.

Also, the wronged individual does not need to fret over getting even. God will do even a better job of avenging us. Each time that we are betrayed, we need to commit the pains to the One who knows every detail and will deal with it properly. In the face of betrayal or unfaithfulness, we need to pray as we seek God for wisdom, for healing, and guidance. As you pray for yourself, also pray for the offender, and also pray for anyone else involved in the act. Humbly pray for God in His goodness, wisdom, and love to guide your thoughts, words, actions, and decisions. Be honest with your feelings. It is normal to feel hurt. Let the expression of your pains to the Lord be the first step towards healing (see Psalm 77:1–2). Choose forgiveness and not repaying evil for evil (1 Peter 3:9).

10. How should a Christian spouse handle an adulterous affair that has resulted in a child birth?

Marriage is a special covenant that brings a couple together both physically and spiritually. Infidelity in marriage or adultery causes a devastating blow that tears through the oneness of marriage. Infidelity is an act that often results in irreparable damages in marriage. Such is especially true if a child is conceived through adultery. However, a parent’s responsibility for his child is not determined by the circumstance of the child’s conception and birth. The act of bringing a child into the world through adultery is definitely disastrous to both parties, but it is important to remember that the child is innocent and deserves to have two parents in his/her life. Note that even a child conceived through adultery also has the right to be loved, protected, catered for, and provided for.

The Scriptures clearly tell us that children are a blessing from God (Psalm 127:3). A child should not be seen as a curse or a reminder of the sin, or as in anyway less worthy. Ideally, the wife whose husband has fathered a child with someone else would be able to embrace the child as a stepson or stepdaughter, even if the child in question is not residing in their home. The wife should not stand in the way of her husband forming a relationship with his child, even though this might bring pains. As a wife, you should understand that your husband has financial, spiritual, and emotional obligations towards the child in question (Ephesians 6:4). Likewise, a husband whose wife bears a child with someone else should strive to see himself as a stepfather – or even as an adoptive father.

11. What is the Biblical punishment for adultery?

Before answering this question, it is important to clarify the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Under the Old Covenant Law, given to ancient Israel under theocracy, the punishment of adultery was death (Leviticus 20:10). But in the New Testament, Jesus Christ brought a new law into effect. However, the eternal punishment of sin is still death (Romans 6:23), but adultery no longer carries the death penalty civilly. Modern Christians or followers of Jesus Christ are not commanded to harm those who sin. The Old Testament list a good number of behaviors that were punishable by death, including adultery. In support of this, Leviticus 20:10 reads, “If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death.” The punishment was same for both parties that were found guilty.

Today, the Bible does not command any such punishment for adultery. However, the act of adultery carries its own punishment. Sexual sin is an offense carried out on one’s own body (1 Corinthians 6:18). Proverbs warns against the consequences of adultery: loss of honor and strength (Proverbs 5:9–11), a ruined reputation (Proverbs 5:14), bondage and death (Proverbs 5:22–23), self-destruction (Proverbs 6:32), and the vengeance of a jealous husband (Proverbs 6:34). “Can a man scoop fire into his lap / without his clothes being burned? / Can a man walk on hot coals / without his feet being scorched? / So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; / no one who touches her will go unpunished” (Proverbs 6:27–29). It has even greater spiritual consequences. However, it is not without forgiveness as demonstrated by Jesus Christ to the woman who was brought to Him for having committed adultery (John 8:10–11).

12. What is spiritual adultery?

Spiritual adultery is unfaithfulness to God. Spiritual adultery is analogous to the unfaithfulness of one’s spouse: “‘But like a woman faithless to her lover, even so have you been faithless to me, O house of Israel,’ says the LORD” (Jeremiah 3:20; see also Isaiah 1:21; 57:8; Ezekiel 16:30). The Bible clearly tells us that those who choose to be friends with the world are an “adulterous people” having “enmity against God” (James 4:4–5). Here, the word “world” represents the system of evil that is under the control of Satan and his agents (John 12:31; Ephesians 2:2; 1 John 5:19). The world system was designed with a deceitful scheme aimed at luring us away from the things of God’s Kingdom. Spiritual adultery has to do with forsaking God’s love and embracing the world’s values and desires (Romans 8:7–8; 2 Timothy 4:10; 1 John 2:15–17).

13. What of pastors committing adultery?

It is without doubt that pastors have been called not just to preach by word but by action. However, being humans, some end up finding themselves in the sin of adultery. Although sinful, such happens when the flesh takes control. As teachers of God’s word, we should pray at all times and keep watch not to fall into such. However, as a pastor, if you find yourself in the sin of adultery, confess and turn away from the act as you seek God’s mercy and favor through Christ. And as Christians, it is our duty to pray that God empower our spiritual leaders and keep them from such sins.

The Bible says that we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). Hence, instead of dwelling on or focusing on condemning our brothers and sisters who have fallen, we should rather pray and encourage them to stand firm in the ways of God. A married man, before being a pastor, is called by Christ to be a good husband to his wife. And one of the main ways of being a good husband is by being faithful to your wife. The Bible says that a man who is unable to maintain his own house won’t be able to maintain God’s. That’s why you must first put order in your own house before seeking to put order in God’s house (Church).

So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

What Does The Bible Say About Unfaithful Husbands?

What Does The Bible Say About Unfaithful Husbands

What Does The Bible Say About Unfaithful Husbands?

What Does The Bible Say About Unfaithful Husbands?

What The Scriptures Say About Unfaithful Husbands

Facts on what the Scriptures say about unfaithful husbands

Proverbs 6 gives us some stern warnings about committing adultery, giving “correction and instruction . . . keeping you from your neighbor’s wife” (verses 23–24). Solomon says,
Do not lust in your heart after her beauty
or let her captivate you with her eyes. . . .
Another man’s wife preys on your very life.
Can a man scoop fire into his lap
without his clothes being burned?
Can a man walk on hot coals
without his feet being scorched?
So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife;
no one who touches her will go unpunished

Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. What Does The Bible Say About The Word Of God?

What Does The Bible Say About The Word Of God? The Word of God is the foundation of knowing Him and what He commands us to do. Today, in talking about the tangible written Word of God, we are pointing to the Bible. With this in mind, one might ask, “is the Bible truly the Word of God?” In answering this question, we’ll point to the description of the Bible, its importance to our lives, and its ultimate eternal impact on us. 2 Peter 1:21 says, “For no prophetic message ever came just from human will, but people were under the control of the Holy Spirit as they spoke the message that came from God.” In other words, “Holy Men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” Thus, the Bible authoritatively reveals God’s message.

If the Bible is truly God’s Word, then we should cherish it, study it, obey it, and fully trust it for what it says. If the Bible is the Word of God, then to dismiss it is to dismiss God Himself. The Bible is evidence and illustration of God’s love for mankind. It was handed to men through a series of revelations from God. Here, the term revelation means that God communicated to mankind what He is like and how we can build and maintain a close relationship with Him. All these are things that we could not have known should in case God did not divinely reveal them to us in the Bible. Despite the fact that God’s revelation about Himself and His Kingdom in the Bible was given progressively over approximately 1500 years, it has always contained everything that God wants man to know about Him.

What Does The Bible Say About The Word Of God?

If the Bible is truly the Word of God, then it is the final authority for all matters of faith, religious practices, salvation, and morals. With this in mind, the question that we should be asking ourselves is that on how to be certain that the Bible is the true Word of God and not merely a good book? What makes the Bible unique or sets it apart from all other religious books that have ever been written? Is there any evidence that the Bible is truly the Word of God? All these questions must be seriously examined if we are to determine or ascertain the validity of the Bible’s claim to be the Truthful Word of God Almighty, creator of Heaven and Earth. The answers to these questions will also build in us a conviction that the Bible was divinely inspired, and totally sufficient for all matters of faith.

It is without doubt that the Bible itself claims to be the very Word of God. Let’s clearly observe this in Apostle Paul’s commendation to His spiritual son, Timothy: “… from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:15-17). It is important to understand here that there are several internal and external evidences that the Bible is the Word of God. By internal evidence, we are pointing to those things within the Bible that testify of its divine origin.

What does the Scriptures say about God’s Word?

There is much that the scriptures say about the Word of God. The Scripture itself claims to have been divinely revealed by God to mankind. Such are what we refer to as internal evidences.

Internal Evidences that the Bible is the Word of God

1. Unity of the Bible

The first internal evidence that the Bible is God’s word has to do with its unity. Despite the fact that it is actually sixty-six (66) books, written on three (3) continents, in three (3) different languages, over an approximately period of 1500 years, by over 40 authors who came from many walks of life, the Bible remains one unified book from beginning to end without contradiction. The unity of the Bible is such that it is unique from all other books. This is clear evidence of the divine origin of the Words which God moved men to record through His Spirit (2 Peter 1:21).

2. Detailed and accurate prophecies in the Bible

The prophecies contained within the Bible are making up for another internal evidence that the Bible is truly God’s Word. The Bible contains hundreds of detailed prophecies pointing to the future of individual nations including Israel, neighboring nations, distant nations, and mankind. Other prophecies point to the coming of a Messiah, the Savior of all those who would believe in Him. Unlike the prophecies found in other religious books or those made by mere men such as Nostradamus, Biblical prophecies are extremely detailed and truthful. The Old Testament of the Bible points to over three hundred prophecies concerning Jesus Christ. These prophecies clearly revealed where Jesus Christ would be born, His lineage, how He would suffer, how He would die, resurrect, and come for the second time to take with Him all who are truly His own. There is no other religious book with such prophetic details and accuracy.

3. The Bible’s unique authority and power

A third internal evidence of the divine origin of the Bible is its unique authority and power. Although this evidence might sound to be more subjective than the first two, it is no less a powerful testimony of the divine origin of the Bible. Get it once and for all that the authority of the Bible is unlike any other book ever written. This power and authority that we are talking about are best seen in the way countless lives have been supernaturally transformed by the power of God’s Word.

God’s Word has cured countless drug addicts, freed homosexuals from their evil practices, transformed derelicts and deadbeats, renewed the hearts of hardened criminals, rebuked sinners, and transformed the wicked to good people. This dynamic and life transforming power from the Bible is an indication that it is God’s Word. That is why God says in Jeremiah 23:29 – “My Message is like a Fire, and like a Hammer that breaks rocks into pieces.

External evidences that the Bible is the Word of God

1. Historicity of the Bible

Since the Bible details historical events, its truthfulness and accuracy are subject to verification just like any other historical document. Through a collection of archeological evidences and other writings, the historical accounts of the Bible have been proven true and time again to be precise, accurate, and true. It is without doubt that all the archeological and manuscript evidence in support of the truthfulness of the Bible makes it the best documented book from the ancient world. Since the Bible accurately and truthfully records historically veritable events, it is a great indication of its truthfulness in handling religious related facts. This helps it substantiate its claims of being the Word of God.

2. Integrity of its human authors

The second external evidence that the Bible is truly God’s Word is the integrity of its human authors. Just as we previously mentioned, God used men from many walks of life to record His Word. By studying the lives of these men, we find out that they walked in honesty and sincerity. These men were more than willing and ready to embrace rejection, persecution, hatred, and even death in support of their believe or certainty on what God told them to do and say. The fact that they were willing and ready to die often excruciating deaths for what they believed testifies that they actually heard from God and had to remain faithful to Him in all conditions.

All the Men who wrote the New Testament of the Bible and many hundreds of other believers (1 Corinthians 15:6) knew the truth of their message and where certain about its genuineness because they had seen and spent time with Jesus Christ after He had risen from the dead. Behold, seeing the risen Christ unarguably had a tremendous impact on them. They moved out from hiding in fear to being willing to die in support of the Message that God had revealed to them. Their lives and deaths clearly testify to the fact that the Bible is God’s Word.

3. Indestructibility of the Bible

The indestructibility of the Bible is another great eternal evidence that it is God’s Word. Due to its importance and claim to be the Word of God, the Bible has suffered more vicious attacks and attacks aimed at destroying it than any other book in history. From early Roman emperors like Diocletian, through communist dictators and on the modern-day atheists and agnostics, the Bible has withstood and outlasted all of those trying to destroy it. Glory be to God Almighty for the Bible is still today the most widely published book in the world. Overtime, skeptics have regarded the Bible as mythological, but archeology has confirmed it to be historical. Although evil people have openly attacked its teachings as primitive and outdated, its moral and legal concepts and teachings have had a major positive influence on societies and cultures throughout the world.

Till date, the Bible continues to receive attacks from pseudo-science, political, and psychology movements, yet it remains relevant and true as it was when it was first written. All attempts to discredit or destroy the Bible have known nothing but failure. This is because God is still on His throne and will always be on His throne. Do not be alarmed that no matter how the Bible is attacked, it always comes out unchanged and victorious. After all, Jesus Christ Himself said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Mark 13:31). Upon looking at all these evidences, one can say without doubt that, yes, the Bible is God’s Word.

Archeology confirms the Biblical record

Archeological finds continue to give us reliable evidences that the Biblical writers accurately recorded history. For example, the Pool of Bethesda as mentioned in John 5:2 was once dismissed as non-historical. As of the time of writing, tour guides in Jerusalem point groups to its location in the northeast of the Old City. Today, there is a visible stone inscription documenting the life and office of Pontius Pilate; the ossuary (coffin) of Caiaphas, the High Priest of the Crucifixion; an old inscription found at Delphi that clearly describes the work of Gallio, proconsul at Corinth (Acts 18:12-17); and scores of other artifacts. All these are pointing to the accuracy of Biblical history and descriptions.

Is the Bible filled with contradictions?

This is one of the most common ways through which skeptics justify their skepticism about the Bible. Such people base themselves on the commonplace supposition that contradictions are bad. To genuinely know whether or not the Bible is contradictory, you should study it. For sure, it is not contradictory to dismiss a book you haven’t studied. By finding a statement that I make that disagrees with something I’ve already said, one is more likely to fell justified by rejecting both. Even though one may be true or even still both may be true. You are probably asking yourself why?

Contradict the contradictions

In dealing with contradiction, it is either we are thanking or blaming Aristotle (384-322 BC). In his obsessive desire to compile all the knowledge in the world into an organized system, he devised laws of logic as organization tools. One of this laws is called the law of contradiction: A cannot equal B and at the same time not equal B. In this light, fish cannot be a mammal, if a biologist like Aristotle is going to classify it. From then to now, westerners and other far way nations have adopted Aristotle’s Law as the basis for determining all truth. And as a result, if we can find a contradiction in the Bible, we can have reason to dismiss its veracity. But before you proceed, not that there is a fly in the ointment.

That is, Aristotle applied his law to physical and rational truth, not to spiritual or relational experience. It may appear contradictory to claim that you love your children and yet sometimes wish they’d never been born. But for a typical parent, both are sometimes true. Likewise, Jesus Christ claimed to be fully God and fully man; God is three and yet One; God knows the future but we have freedom to choose; the Bible is divinely inspired but humanly written. As example of what a person might find contradictory in the Bible is that it teaches us that “God is love” (1 John 4:8), yet it also states that “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness” (Romans 1:18). Now, how can God both love and hate? Don’t ask Aristotle, but ask any parent.

Who decided what books should be in the Bible?

The young in the faith are more likely to assume that the Bible was directly handed to mankind by God in the form of a black leather. However, many have heard somewhere along their spiritual journey that some books where excluded from the Bible and wonder why. Perhaps, a group of church officials decided the whole thing. Perhaps, they were books that told a different story from that in the Bible. Maybe there was a smoke-filled room somewhere. Whatever the case, the actual story is nowhere that interesting.

How the Hebrew Scriptures came to be

Today, Christians typically call this section the Old Testament, but those who wrote the New Testament didn’t. When Apostle Paul wrote to his spiritual son, Timothy, from the death row in Rome, asking for his scrolls and parchments (2 Timothy 4:13), he was asking for his copies of the only one Bible he knew. Today, a good number of scholars appropriately call these thirty-nine (39) books the Hebrew Scriptures, in defense to the Jewish faith they express. The Hebrew Bible was first divided into Law, Prophets, and Writings, the arrangement that was in place during the days of Jesus Christ (also read Luke 24:44).

The Jewish numbered the Scriptures as twenty-four books, combining Ezra/Nehemiah, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, 1 and 2 Chronicles, and the 12 Minor Prophets as “The Twelve.” All these books were written and compiled over centuries of use. According to the Jewish tradition, a council of rabbis and scholars met at Jamnia on the Mediterranean sea in AD 90 and AD 118. It was during this meeting that they finalized the list of books as we have them today, recognizing what their people had accepted as God’s word for centuries.

How the New Testament joined the Old

Not very long from the Ascension of Jesus Christ into His Father’s Kingdom, the Christian movement began recording its faith and doctrines. The eye witnesses to Jesus’ life and ministry were dying or growing old. Fraudulent claims were beginning to appear. The need for a canon (“rule”) among the believers was absolutely needed. The Canon was to be a standard to measure truth and defend the faith. It resulted to what we have today as the New Testament.

Four (4) criteria that were developed for accepting a book as inspired
1. The book must have been written by an Apostle or based on his eye witness

Matthew, the tax collector, was a disciple of Jesus Christ before he wrote his gospel, as was John. Mark was a spiritual son of Apostle Peter and an early missionary associate of Apostle Paul (1 Peter 5:13). Luke was a Gentile physician who willingly joined Paul’s second missionary journey at Troas (read Acts 16:10, where Luke changes the narrative from “they” to “we”). Luke wrote his gospel and the book of Acts based on the eye witness testimony of others (Luke 1:1-4). Paul’s letters resulted from an eye witness to the risen Christ (cf. Acts 9:1-6), as did the letters of James (half-brother of Jesus), Peter, Jude (another half-brother of Jesus), and John. This criteria alone excluded most of the books suggested for the canon.

2. The book must possess merit and authority in its use

This law made it easy to separate those writings that were inspired from those that were not.

“For instance, the First Gospel of the Infancy of Jesus Christ portrays or tells of a man changed into a mull by a bewitching spell but converted back to manhood when the infant Christ is put on his back for a ride (7:5-27). Still in the book, the boy Jesus causes clay birds and animals to come to life (ch. 15), stretches a throne his father had made too small (ch. 16), and takes the lives of boys who oppose him (19:19-24).”

It wasn’t hard to figure out that such books were not from the Holy Spirit.

3. A book must be accepted by the larger church and not just a small congregation

Paul’s letter to the Ephesians was an early instance of a letter that became “circular” in nature. We are saying here that this letter was read by churches across the faith. Likewise, his other letters soon acquired such status. Note that by the mid-second century, only the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were accepted universally by the church, as quotations from the believers of that era make clearly. Others were not considered to be inspired by God.

4. A book came to be approved by the decision of the church

The Muratorian Canon was the very first list o convey the larger church’s opinion regarding accepted books of the New Testament Canon. Actually compiled around AD 200, it represented the usage of the Roman church at the time. This list we are talking about does omit James, 1 and 2 Peter, 3 John, and Hebrews since the compiler was not sure of their authorship. However, all were soon included in the later canons. The list we have today is that which was set by Athanasius in AD 367. His list was approved by church councils meeting at Hippo Regius in 393 and Carthage in 397.

These councils did not impose anything new upon the church. Rather, they codified what believers had already come to accept and use as the word of God. By the time that the councils had approved the twenty-seven (27) books of our New Testament, they had already served in fullness as the established companion to the Hebrew Scriptures for generations. So, who decided what books should be in the Bible? Ultimately, their Author. We can say that the same Holy Spirit that inspired Biblical revelation (2 Peter 1:20-21) led the Christian movement to those Books He inspired.

What Does The Bible Say About Truth?

What Does The Bible Say About Truth? One might ask, “What is Truth?” It is rather unfortunate that almost two thousand years ago, Truth was put on trial and judged by men who were filled with lies and devoted to evil ways. In a single day, Truth faced six trials, three of which were legal and three that were religious. When it was over, only few people involved in those events could give elements of answers to the question, “what is the truth?” The Bible tells us that after being arrested, the Truth was first led to a corrupt former high priest of the Jews named Annas. Behold, Annas break numerous Jewish Laws during the trial, including trying to induce self-accusations against the defendant, holding the trial in his house, and striking the defendant who had not been convicted of any wrong at that time.

The Bible further tells us that after Annas, the Truth was led to the reigning high priest, Caiaphas, who happened to be Annas’s son-in-law. Standing before Caiaphas the high priest and the Jewish Sanhedrin, numerous false witnesses came forward to speak against the Truth. Caiaphas break not fewer than 7 Jews Laws in his attempt to convict the Truth:

  1. The trial was held in secret
  2. The trial was carried out at night
  3. It involved bribery
  4. The defendant had no one present to make a defense for Him
  5. The requirement of 2 to 3 witnesses in the trial could not be met
  6. They used self-incriminating testimony against the defendant
  7. They subjected the defendant to a death penalty on the same day

All these actions were prohibited by the Jews Law. Regardless, Caiaphas declared the Truth guilty because the Truth claimed to be God in the flesh, what Caiaphas referred to as blasphemy.

What Does The Bible Say About Truth?

The Bible tells us that when morning came, the third trial of the Truth took place in the midst of His enemies who wanted Him dead. Behold, this third trial came with the result that the Jewish Sanhedrin pronounced the Truth should die. However, the Jewish council had no legal right to carry out the death penalty, so they were forced to take the Truth to Pontius Pilate who was the Roman governor at that time. Pontius Pilate was appointed by Tiberius as the fifth prefect of Judea and saved in that capacity A.D. 26 to 36. It is worth pointing out here that Pontius Pilate who was the procurator had power of life and death and had the authority to reverse capital sentences passed by the Sanhedrin. The Bible tells us that as the Truth stood before Pontius Pilate, more lies were brought against Him.

These lies were formulated and brought by His enemies who wanted Him dead at all cost. Behold, His enemies said, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ, a King” (Luke 23:2). This was a clear lie, as the Truth had told everyone to pay their taxes (Matthew 22:21) talk-less of speaking about Himself as a human challenge to Caesar.

What does the Scriptures say about the Truth?

Despite all the accusations against the Truth, Pontius Pilate requested for and enhanced an interesting conversation with the Truth.
John 18:33–38 says, “Therefore Pilate entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, ‘Are You the King of the Jews?’ Jesus answered, ‘Are you saying this on your own initiative, or did others tell you about Me?’ Pilate answered, ‘I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered You to me; what have You done?’ Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.’ Therefore Pilate said to Him, ‘So You are a king?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.’ Pilate said to Him, ‘What is truth?’

Note that Pilate’s question, “what is the truth?” has been the talk of time across several centuries. That is, it has reverberated down through history. In regard to this question, many have been wondering whether it was a melancholy desire to know that which no one else could tell him, a sarcastic insult, or perhaps an irritated reply to Jesus’ words. So what is truth?

A general overview and proposed definition of Truth

In our effort to genuinely propose a definition for truth, we’ll start by pointing what truth is not:

  • Truth is not merely whatever works. Such is the philosophy of pragmatism-an ends.vs. -means-type approach. We all know that in reality, lies can appear to “work,” but this does not change the fact that they are not lies and not the truth.
  • Truth is not simply what is coherent or understandable. Behold, it is possible for a group of people to get together and form a conspiracy based on a set of falsehood whereby they all agree to tell the same false story. From all angles, this does not make their presentation true.
  • We can as well say that truth is not what makes people feel good. This is so, because even bad new can be true.
  • Truth is not defined by what is intended. This is so because even good intentions can be wrong.
  • Truth is not necessarily what is comprehensive. This is so because even a well detailed lengthy presentation can still result to a false conclusion.
  • We can as well say that truth is not how we know; truth is what we know.
  • Truth is not what is publicly proved. Note that a truth can be privately know (for example a buried treasure in the thick forest ).
  • Truth is not simply what is believed to be. This is so because even a lie believed still remains a lie.
What is Truth?

The Greek word for “truth” is aletheia , which literally means “un-hide” or “hiding nothing.” This Greek word conveys the thought that truth is always there, with nothing being hidden or obscured, as it is always open and available for all to see. The Hebrew word for “truth” is emeth, meaning “firmness,” “constancy” and “duration.” This definition or meaning points to an everlasting substance or something that we can firmly rely upon. The philosophical approach reveals three simple ways to define truth which are:

  1. Truth is simply telling it like it is.
  2. Truth is that which matches its object.
  3. It is that which matches reality

It is very important to understand that truth corresponds to reality or “what is.” Truth is real and correspondent to nature. That is, it is such that it matches its object and it is well known by its referent. In short, truth is simply telling it the way it is. Truth reveals the way things really are, and any other viewpoint is wrong.

Philosophical Challenges to Truth

The foundation principle of philosophy is being able to discern between truth and error. Thomas Aquinas puts it this way, “It is the task of the philosopher to make distinctions.” It is rather unfortunate that Aquinas’ words are not very popular these days. It is sad to say but making distinctions seems to be out of fashion in a postmodern era of relativism. Note that it is acceptable to say that “This is true,” so long as it is not accompanied by, “and therefore that is false.” Such is highly observable in matters of faith and religion whereby, every belief system is supposed to be on equal footing where truth is involved. Although there are several philosophies and worldviews that challenge the concept of truth, yet, when each is critically examined in the light of understanding, it turns out to be self-defeating in nature.

1. Philosophy of relativism

The philosophy of relativism holds that all truth is relative and that there is no such things as absolute truth. With this in mind, we can ask whether the claim that “all truth is relative” is a relative truth or absolute truth? If it is a relative truth, this makes it highly meaningless because we do not know when and how it applies. If it is an absolute truth, then absolute truth exists. In addition, the relativist betrays his own position when he states that the position of the absolutist is wrong – why can’t all who say that absolute truth exist be correct? In essence and fact, when the relativist says, “There is no truth,” he is simply asking you not to believe him. And in such a circumstance, the best thing to do is to follow his advice and not believe him.

2. Philosophy of Skepticism

All those who follow the philosophy of skepticism simply doubt all truth. Whatever the case, is the skeptic skeptical about skepticism; does he for once doubt his own truth claim? If so, then why even suffer yourself by paying attention to skepticism? If not, then we can be at-least sure of one thing (in other words, absolute truth exist)-skepticism, which, ironically, becomes absolute truth in that case.

3. Philosophy of Agnosticism

The Agnostic says that you can’t know the truth. Yet the mindset in this case is self-defeating because it claims to know at least one truth: that you can’t know the truth.

4. Philosophy of Postmodernism

As for the disciples of postmodernism, they simply affirm no particular truth. Frederick Nietzsche who is the patron saint of postmodernism described truth as: “What then is truth? A mobile army of metaphors, metonyms, and anthropomorphisms … truths are illusions … coins which have lost their pictures and now matter only as metal, no longer as coins.” Sarcastically, although the postmodernist holds coins in his hands that are now “mere metal,” he affirms at least one absolute truth: the truth that no truth should be affirmed. Just like all other world vies, postmodernism is self-defeating and can not stand the test of time.

5. Philosophy of Pluralism

Pluralism is another popular worldview which says that all truth claims are equally valid. Of course, this is absolutely impossible. Behold, immediately you start making good use of your senses, you’ll realize that this concept does not hold. Can two claims – one that says a woman is now pregnant and another that says she is not now pregnant – both be true at the same time? Pluralism is unraveled at the feet of the law of non-contradiction, which holds that something can not be both “A” and “Non-A” at the same time and in the same sense.

As one philosopher quipped, anyone who thinks or believes that the law of non-contradiction is not true (and, by default, pluralism is true) should be beaten and burned until they admit that to be beaten and burned is not the same thing as to not be beaten and burned. In addition, pluralism says that it is true and that anything oppose to it is false, which is a claim that denies its own fundamental tenet: all truth claims are equally valid. It is important to understand that the spirit behind pluralism is an open-armed attitude of tolerance. However, pluralism ends up confusing the idea of everyone having equal value with every truth claim being equally valid. Although all people may be equal, not all truth claims are.  Mortimer Adler says, “Pluralism is desirable and tolerable only in those areas that are matters of taste rather than matters of truth.

Understanding the Offensive Nature of Truth

On most occasions, when the concept of truth is maligned, it is usually for one or more of the following reasons:

One of the most common complaint against anyone claiming to have absolute truth in matters of faith and religion is that such a stance is “narrow minded.” However, the critic in this situation fails to understand that, by nature, truth is narrow. Common and tells whether or not a mathematics teacher is narrow-minded for holding to the belief that 2 + 2 equals 4?

Another objection to truth is the belief that it is arrogant to claim that a person is right and another is wrong. However, referring to our mathematical example above, is it arrogant for a math teacher to insist on only one right answer to an arithmetic problem? Or is it arrogant for a locksmith to say that only one key will unlock a locked door?

Another complaint against those holding to absolute truth in matters of faith and religion is that such a position excludes people, rather than being inclusive in approach. The critic in this case fails to understand that truth, by nature, excludes its opposite. Basing ourselves on the arithmetic above, we can say without doubt that all answers other than 4 are excluded from the reality of what 2 + 2 equals.

Another charge against those holding to absolute truth in matters of faith and religion is that it is offensive and divisive to claim that one has the truth. Here, the critic argues that what actually matters is sincerity. However, truth is immune to sincerity, belief, and desire. No matter how sincerely a person believes a wrong key will fit a door; the key won’t still go in talk-less of unlocking the door.

More Facts on the Offensive Nature of Truth

It is important to understand that truth is unaffected by sincerity. For example, a person who picks up a bottle of poison and sincerely believes that it is lemonade will still end up suffering the heavy effects of the poison if he/she drinks. Likewise, truth is impervious to desire. If the gauge indicates that the tank is empty and the car will not run any farther, there is no desire in the world that will miraculously cause the car to continue going.

There are some people who admit that absolute truth exists, but then claim such a stance valid only in the area of science and not in that of faith and religion. Such is the philosophical way of thinking known as logical positivism. This philosophy was made popular by philosophers like David Hume and A. J. Ayer. According to them, truth claims must either be (1) tautologies (for example, all bachelors are married men) or (2) empirically veritable (that is testable via scientific approaches). To the logical positivists, all talk about God is nonsense.

It is unfortunate that those who hold to the concept that only science can make truth claims fail to understand that there are many realms of truth where science is impotent. Below are some few examples.

Examples
  • Science cannot prove metaphysical truths such as, minds other than my own do exist.
  • Science cannot prove the disciplines of mathematics and logic because it presupposes them.
  • In addition, science is incapable of stating truths about aesthetic positions such as the beauty of a sunrise.
  • Science is incapable of providing truth in the areas of morals and ethics. For example, you cannot use science to prove that the Nazis were evil.
  • Each time that a person makes the statement “science is the only source of objective truth,” they have just made a philosophical claim – which cannot be tested in anyway by science.

There are also people who hold to the claim that absolute truth does not apply in the area of morality. Yet the response to the question, “Is it morally upright to torture and murder an innocent child?” is absolute and universal: No. We can as well make it look more personal by pointing to the fact that those who espouse relative truth concerning morals always seem to want their spouse to be absolutely faithful to them.

God and Truth

All through the six trials of Jesus Christ, the contrast between truth (righteousness) and lies (unrighteousness) was clear. Jesus Christ, the Truth, stood being judged by those whose actions were deeply rooted in evil. In handling the case of Jesus Christ, the Jewish leaders broke nearly every Law that was given to Moses by God to protect a defendant from wrongful conviction. It is sad to say but the Jewish leaders worked to find any testimony that would incriminate Jesus. In their frustration and desire to have Jesus Christ killed, they turned to false evidence brought by liars who also wanted Jesus Christ dead. Upon noticing that all their efforts to convict or incriminate Jesus were not working, they broke another Law and forced Jesus to implicate Himself.

Even in front of Pilate, the Jewish leaders lied again. Having convicted Jesus of blasphemy and realizing that it won’t be sufficient to coax Pilate to kill Him, they claimed that Jesus was challenging Caesar and was breaking Roman Law by encouraging everyone not to pay taxes. It was not long that Pontius Pilate detected their superficial deception, and he did not address the charge. Note that Jesus the righteous was judged by the unrighteous. He who had no sin was judged by sinners. The good suffered in the hands of the bad. Another sad fact is that the later always persecutes the former. As you’ll read from the Bible verses about truth, you’ll clearly perceive the relationship between truth and righteousness and between falsehood and unrighteousness.

What is Truth?

Jesus Christ clearly tells us in John 14:6 – “I am the truth.” Although simple, it is an incredible statement to be spoken by a human being. How could be a mere man be the truth? The truth is that He couldn’t be unless He was more than a mere human being, which is actually what He claimed to be. Although Jesus’ claim was doubted at that time, it was validated when He rose from the dead (Romans 1:4) and ascended as God the Son to the presence of God the Father who gave Him all authority and power in Heaven, on Earth and in the world to come (Matthew 28:18).

The One Pilate and the Jewish leaders convicted will one day serve as their judge, as He will be for all people who suppress the truth with unrighteousness. Records hold that Pontius Pilate evidently never came to knowledge of the truth. Eusebius, the historian and Bishop of Caesarea, records the fact that Pontius Pilate ultimately committed suicide at some point in time during the reign of the emperor Caligula. This sad ending which was experienced by Pontius Pilate is an indication that ignoring the truth leads to severe consequences (physical and spiritual death). On the other hand, Believing, Sincerely Repenting, and obeying the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ sets us apart as beneficiaries of God’s special gift of Eternal Life. In this way, we are saved from the Fire of Hell and the Judgement Day.

What Does The Bible Say About Trust?

What Does The Bible Say About Trust? The answer to this question will help in building confidence in our hearts that God is willing and able to help us in every situation. This saying holds even before situations that seem impossible to the human eyes. With God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Impossibilities exist only within the human sphere. All of us have already experienced hard times and it’s not like they’ll never come our way again. During such moments, we are more likely to lose hope and give up. At times, we think that it is the end but little do we know that God is saying the contrary. Have confidence in God’s ability to help and you’ll live to testify his goodness, mercy, favor and power. This truth is supported by the best Bible verses about trust which we’ll subsequently present.

God has the final say in every situation that we are living. He has the ability to change your story at the twinkle of an eye. God can rewrite your story for the best and change all misfortunes and evil plans set against you for your benefit (Psalms 23:5 ). Do not entertain doubts nor fears because God is in control. Bring in prayers whatever situation that is worrying your heart before the throne of the Father of Creation, he will hear and answer you. Sing songs of praises and worship to him during moments of joy. Call on him in the times of trouble and he will hear and answer you. He will bring solutions to your problems in ways far beyond human imagination. He knows our worries and heart desires and will not leave us without a blessing. Those who faithfully serve God find in Him mercy and favor.

How to receive the power of the Holy Spirit

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIRsX0GaLfU

The Power of the Holy Spirit is one of dominion, victory, healing, deliverance, success, blessings and above all salvation. These are things which we long to have. We are made heirs of these heavenly things through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is for this reason that people want to know the ways to receive the power of the Holy Spirit. You must not stress up yourself because there are many ways on how to receive the power of the Holy Spirit. Just continuously read as we unfold them to you. Remember to subscribe for further teachings.

God promises to give us special power if we will turn to Him from our evil, wicked, and unholy ways. This special power which is imparted on us by the Holy Spirit will help us in facing extraordinary challenges in living our daily Christian lives. Since the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven, this power has been a major tool in accompanying and making possible the impossible things on the ways of those who are witnessing the gospel to the ends of the world. That’s why Jesus Christ in Luke 24:49 requested that His disciples should wait in the city until they were clothed with the power of the Holy Spirit before they could step out to witness what they had seen and heard.

As a child of God who is a witness of Jesus Christ, you eventually need the power of the Holy Spirit in order to live a victorious life. The reception of the power of the Holy Spirit is not a one-time scenario as we can read from Acts 2:4 that tells us that the Apostles who were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit regularly came together to seek additional power for greater threats and missions that were ahead of them.

As followers of Jesus Christ today, it is our duty to assist in the Heavenly Father’s vine yard because the harvest is ready but there are very few workers to gather it in (Luke 10:2). This is to say that it is our Christian duty to continuously spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the World in order to safe souls from the fire of hell. For us to successfully accomplish this mission, we will need to ask and wait for Jesus Christ to fill us with the power of the Holy Spirit in accordance with Acts 1:8 where Jesus is asking His witnesses to wait until they are filled with the power of the Holy Spirit which will accompany them to the ends of the world as they preach the Gospel.

Ways to receive the power of the Holy Spirit

Let us now look into our subject matter of how to receive the power of the Holy Spirit. Below are some helpful ways:

1. Consume and get fully soaked in the word of God

This is one of the best ways to receive the Holy Spirit. It moves the heart and hand of God to open the heavens and allow His power to over shadow you. God equips you with the power of the Holy Spirit in order for you to successfully proclaim His message all round the world. Thus, if you are not verse with His teachings, it is needless to expect the power of the Holy Spirit because you won’t receive it. Jesus Christ himself spoke spirit and life giving words to us (John 6:63). Hence, by soaking our whole bodies and spirits in to the word of God that brings life, it will eventually build our faith which will in turn permeate us to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit.

2. Believe and stand firm on all the promises in the Word of God

As it is often said by prophet TB Joshua, our duty is to obey God’s laws while God’s duty is to fulfill His promises towards us. Apostle Paul tells us in Galatians 3:5 that miracles and wonders are done not thanks to the law but by hearing the words of Jesus Christ by faith. In addition, he further explains in Hebrews 11:6 that it is impossible to please God without faith. In other words, we are saying here that it is impossible to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit without having faith.

3. Let love lead

If we are mightily empowered by God yet lack love, all the fruits that we bear are sour and not acceptable in His presence. That is why Jesus took all His life on Earth emphasizing on the importance and significance of Love in the Christian race. At this point, we must say that there is no way that we can please God without love. By reading from John 15: 12, we hear Jesus requesting us to love our neighbors just as He did for us until the extent of taking our place on the cross. A heart filled with love offers sweet scents that are pleasing to the Lord. Hence, we must cultivate love towards one another if we are serious about putting into practice the ways on how to receive the Holy Spirit.

4. Regularly seek the face of God

The scriptures say that Jesus Christ came back filled with power after his 40 days of fasting in the desert. This is an example that shows us the importance of regularly isolating ourselves from the world in order to seek God’s face. One of the keys to receiving God’s power is certainly an extended prayer which goes alongside with fasting. Hence if we are serious about receiving the power of the Holy Spirit, it will be wise to keep aside few hours for God during the day, few minutes within the hours of the day, and few seconds within the minutes of the day. As Christians, we must regularly pray without ceasing in order to overcome the challenges and trials brought on our way by Satan and his agents. This will help us to remain focus in seeking the face of the Lord who will in turn bless us with the power of the Holy Spirit.

5. Make your body a temple for the Holy Spirit

Receiving God’s power once is not sufficient. You’ll need to continuously dwell in Him while He also dwells in you in order to continuously empower you for greater challenges and causes which you must follow. John 14 reveals the benefits of dwelling in the presence of God. There is much to gain by keeping yourself clean for Him to dwell within. In other words, it explains how knowing and obeying God is vital in having a life that is filled with the supernatural power of God. In John 15, Jesus Christ is calling on us to abide in Him while He also abides in us. He further tells us that He is the vine and we are the branches. And that just as the branch cannot bear fruits without the vine, we cannot live a life of power without his presence. Furthermore, he encourages us to remain linked to Him in order to bear good fruits of power which are pleasing to our Heavenly Father.

What the Scriptures say about Fasting

What is Fasting?

In most cases as we can read from the Scriptures About Fasting, a spiritual fast has to do with abstaining from food while focusing on prayer. In simple terms, this can mean abstaining from snacks between meals, skipping one or two meals a day, abstaining from particular foods, or practicing a total fast from all food for one or more days. However, some people may not be able to fast from food altogether due to complicated medical situations. Such people may simply choose to abstain from certain foods, like chocolate or sugar, or from something different from food. The whole truth is that believer in Jesus Christ can fast from anything. That is, doing without something temporally in order to subdue the body and focus on prayer.

An example of fasting from anything here could be refraining from television or redirecting our focus from any earthly thing to the things of God. Such is still considered a spiritual fast so long as it pulls back the body from its desires and wants for the sake of focusing on the things of God. The Holy Scriptures present fasting as the very spiritual act of abstaining from Food, Drinks, or Bodily Desires in order to seek God’s face or will. Note that genuine fasting is led by the Holy Spirit just as it led Jesus Christ after His Baptism into the desert for fasting (Matthew 4:1-2). Such is the type of fasting that moves the heart and hand of God into action thereby manifesting or materializing what seems impossible to the human eye and mind.

The Purpose of Spiritual Fasting

You probably know that many people fast to lose weight. However, dieting is not the purpose of a spiritual fast. A spiritual fast rather provides unique spiritual benefits in the life of a believer. Fasting is like knocking the heavenly doors for divine help even in the face of hopeless situations (Matthew 7:7-8). Remember that All Things Are Possible With God Almighty. In short, impossibility exist only before the eyes and minds of men and women. God did it in the past, He is still doing it these days, and He will certainly do it even in times to come.

Whatever be the situation or problem that we are going through, let’s simply knock the doors of Heaven for a solution. Remember that Heaven is God’s dwelling place (Matthew 5:34). For God Himself spoke through Prophet Jeremiah saying, “Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I will answer you” (Jeremiah 29:12). Fasting requires self-control and discipline since the one practicing it must deny the natural desires of the flesh for God’s sake. Genuine spiritual fasting directs our hunger towards God. During this spiritual exercise, the believer’s focus is removed from the physical things of this world and actively concentrated on the Kingdom of God. In addition, it draws us closer to God and makes us more receptive to His voice. Hence, we hear God’s voice more clearly and are more willing to follow His ways.

What Fasting is Not

Fasting is not a public display of spirituality; but a practice between you and God. Spiritual fasting is not necessarily to move God to do something in our lives. At times, we fast just to experience a spiritual transformation or to go closer to God in as much as we can fast as a way of thanking Him for His goodness in our lives. Remember that fasting is a spiritual act between you and God alone. Hence, you should not make it a public show as the hypocrites do. As for such people, they’ve already received their public reward and should not expect anything from God. Christ pointed out that making this spiritual practice a public show actually forfeit its benefits. In addition to this, Christ instructed us to carryout our fasting in private and in all humility (Matthew 6:16-18).

Let’s support our point by reading from Matthew 6:16-18 – “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

How Long Should I Fast?

Truth be told, there is no specific duration for fasting. However, fasting, especially from food, should be limited to a reasonable length of time. Fasting for to long without directives from the Holy Spirit can cause severe harm to the body. Hence, your decision to fast should be guided by the Holy Spirit just as it did for Jesus Christ and other Biblical figures. It is recommended, especially for those who are still new in the fasting practice to seek medical and spiritual counsel before embarking on a prolonged fasting. While Jesus and Moses both fasted for 40 days and nights without food and water, it is without doubt that this was an impossible human achievement, which could only be achieved through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit and under its directives. There are stories of many who have tried this and ended up dying before completion.

Below are some examples of fasting from the Bible that you can embrace and boost your spiritual growth and walk with God:

  1. One day or part of a day (1 Samuel 7:6; Judges 20:26; 2 Samuel 1:12; 3:35;Jeremiah 36:6; Nehemiah 9:1)
  2. One-night fast (Daniel 6:18–24)
  3. Three-day fasts (Acts 9:9; Esther 4:16)
  4. Seven-day fasts (2 Samuel 12:16–23; 1 Samuel 31:13)
  5. Fourteen-day fast (Acts 27:33–34)
  6. Twenty-one day fast (Daniel 10:3–13)
  7. Forty-day fasts (Deuteronomy 9:9; Matthew 4:2; 1 Kings 19:8)
  8. Fasts of unspecified lengths (Luke 2:37; Matthew 9:14; Acts 13:2; 14:23).”

Fasting duration groups

1. Occasional short fasts

The occasional short fast is characterized by self-denial of food or some other form of pleasure for a lasting period of say 6, 12, or 24-hours. Such is a one time fast for a purpose which does not come with a commitment to make it again.

2. Intermittent fast

The intermittent fast is normally a regular act of abstinence which can take place say one time a week. Here, you abstain from food or make some other kind of self sacrifice for the sake of getting closer to God. Such practice integrates the spiritual discipline of fasting in your life and makes it a lifestyle.

3. Longer fasts

A longer fast just like others can be about self-denial of food or some other sacrifice in order to focus on the things of God. Here, a non-food fast could be abstaining from watching TV from Monday to Friday. Hence, taking the time to meditate on the Laws of God, praise and worship Him. Here, you can as well dedicate every evening for a period of one week to pray and share the word of god with friends. You can as well go without food for a given period of time as led by the Holy Spirit. A longer-water only fast can last from one to three days. During this period, you abstain from food and consume just water. If you embrace something other than food for the fast, it is likely to last longer.

4. Extended fasts

The extended fast is actually the hard part of this spiritual exercise. Here, you willingly choose to give up something that you need or value for an extended period of time. An example of a non-food extended fast could be deciding to wake-up an hour earlier for spiritual meditation, praise and worship during a period of one month.

5. Open-ended fasts

Here, everything revolves around defining and accomplishing goals. That is, you make a commitment not to break the fast until your goals are achieved. Some extended fasts are open-ended fasts.

6. Occasional group fasts

Such is the type of fasting called by a Church, or group of Churches. Such can also apply to a nation during times of crisis. It is then that you hear a call for everyone to partake in such.

7. Longer group fasts

Here, the range of options for a group fast is extensive. Everyone can decide to fast at the same time or go on a rotational pattern. The members of the group will have to determine whether it is an open-ended fast or not.

How Often Should I Fast?

There is no fix spiritual pattern for Christian fasting. However, it is important for the New Testament Christians to regularly practice prayer and fasting. Since there is no Biblical command to fast, believers or followers of Christ should be led by God through prayer concerning when, for how long, and how often to fast.

The Things Fasting Does For Spiritual Life

Below are a few things that fasting does for our spiritual life or walk with Jesus Christ:

  1. Fasting and Prayer makes us more receptive to God’s voice
  2. Through fasting and prayer, we can hear God more clearly
  3. Fasting an prayer strengthens our relationship with God and takes us closer to His sanctuary
  4. Fasting and prayer can teach us how to pray the right motives and pray God’s will
  5. Through fasting and prayer, we are able to build our faith for higher accomplishments for the Kingdom of God

Types of Fasting

1. Fasting from food

Here, the believer forgoes food partially or completely for a given period of time in order to focus on prayer and other things of God’s Kingdom. Here, he or she could pass more time praising God, worshiping Him, and/or meditating on His laws.

2. Fasting from drink

Here, the believer forgoes drink partially or fully for a given period of time in order to concentrate or focus on God and the things of Heaven. He/she can dwell on studying the Bible, praising God, and/or worshiping Him for who He is.

3. TV/Movie Fast

Here, you can forgo or take a break from a weekly favorite in order to study the Bible. That is, you forgo watching TV or your favorite movie in order to do something that please God or leads to the advancement of His kingdom like evangelism.

4. Social Media Fast

The social media fast is turning to become one of the most common types of fast in our culture. Today, it’s almost impossible for one to separate or stay off the social media for a significant period of time. Almost everyone visits these platforms repetitively or for a good number of times in a day. It is unfortunate that some have even become addicted to social media platforms and can’t stay off for up-to an hour. With this type of fasting, you simply log out of your accounts or delete them from your electronic devices and spend some quite time with God. During this time, you pray, praise and worship Him. In addition, you can also study His Laws and make them part of yourself.

5. Secular Music Fast

This is another form of fasting in which you decide to listen to a Christian radio station for period of time rather than listening to Top Hits on the Radio. Here, you can as well listen to a Christian podcast or audio-book rather than listening your favorite non-christian audios.

6. Fast from going out

Here, you simply have a look at your calendar and pick a night when you’d usually go out for pleasure and rather spend that time praising and worshiping God. You can as well spend it studying His word and writing His Laws in your heart so that they become part of you.
