Discover Bible Verses About Salvation of the Spirit, Soul and Body. Salvation is a central theme in the Bible, and it is important to understand that the concept of salvation is presented in three distinct aspects: past, present, and future. Each aspect has its own significance and application in the life of a believer. Let’s explore what the Bible says about each aspect of salvation and how it relates to the soul, spirit, and body.

Bible Verses About Salvation of the Spirit, Soul and Body

From a Biblical Perspective

The Past Aspect: Saved by Grace through Faith

Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast
In Ephesians 2:8-9, the Bible tells us that salvation is a past, completed act. It is by God’s grace that we have been saved through faith in Jesus Christ. This salvation is not based on our own works or efforts, but it is a gift from God. This past aspect of salvation refers to the moment of our conversion when we put our faith in Jesus and received the gift of salvation.

The Present Aspect: Being Saved by the Power of God

1 Corinthians 1:18 says, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
In 1 Corinthians 1:18, the Bible describes salvation as a present, continuous work. It is the ongoing power of God at work in the life of a believer. This aspect of salvation speaks to the process of sanctification, where the Holy Spirit transforms us into the image of Christ. It is a daily journey of surrendering our lives to God and allowing Him to work in and through us.

The Future Aspect: Inheriting Salvation

Hebrews 1:14 says, “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
Hebrews 1:14 introduces the future aspect of salvation, describing it as an inherited possession. This salvation is yet to be fully realized and is reserved for those who are already saved and have become part of God’s family through faith in Jesus Christ. It is an inheritance that we will receive in the future, and it is a glorious promise for believers.

The Tripartite Nature of Man

To understand salvation in its complete scope, we must first understand the tripartite nature of man. Man is made up of spirit, soul, and body. Scripture tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:23 that God sanctifies us completely, preserving our whole spirit, soul, and body blameless until the coming of the Lord.

The spirit is the part of man that links him directly with God. It is the seat of the higher divine life and is the first aspect of salvation to be addressed. The soul, on the other hand, is the seat of a person’s emotions, feelings, and desires. It is the realm of the self-life and needs to be saved and transformed. Finally, the body is the physical aspect of man that will be redeemed in the future.

Salvation of the Spirit

When we are born again, our spirit is instantly saved. It is a work of the Spirit of God breathing life into us and making us alive spiritually. This salvation is based on the finished work of Christ at Calvary. Our spirit is made alive, and we are no longer separated from God. This aspect of salvation is a past, completed work, and it is the foundation upon which the rest of our salvation is built.

Salvation of the Soul

While the salvation of the spirit is a past act, the salvation of the soul is a present and ongoing process. Scripture tells us in 1 Peter 1:9 that we are receiving the end of our faith, the salvation of our souls. This salvation is not automatic but requires our active participation. It involves allowing the Spirit of God to impart spiritual truth into our lives and bring about transformation. It is a journey of growing from immaturity to maturity, allowing the soul to be saved and conformed to the image of Christ.

Salvation of the Body

The salvation of the body is the final aspect of salvation that is yet to be realized. Romans 8:23 tells us that we eagerly await the redemption of our bodies. This refers to the future resurrection and glorification of our physical bodies, which will be free from the effects of sin and death. It is the culmination of our salvation, bringing us into the fullness of our inheritance as children of God.

Soulical, Spiritual, and Carnal

The Bible categorizes individuals into three groups: soulical, spiritual, and carnal. The soulical man is the unsaved individual who lacks spiritual discernment and is alienated from God. The spiritual man is the believer who allows the Spirit of God to control his life through his spirit. The carnal man, although saved, remains immature and controlled by his soulical desires.

Understanding these categories helps us recognize the importance of allowing the Spirit of God to transform our lives and bring about the salvation of our souls. It is a call to spiritual maturity and a surrendering of our soulical desires to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

The Complete Salvation Message

As ministers of the Word, we have a responsibility to proclaim the complete salvation message to believers. The focus should shift from the salvation of the spirit to the salvation of the soul. We are called to feed the flock of God, providing spiritual nourishment for their growth and maturity. This can only be accomplished through the faithful proclamation of the Word of God, allowing the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us into all truth.

Conclusion

The Bible presents salvation in three distinct aspects: past, present, and future. Salvation is a work of God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. It involves the salvation of the spirit, the ongoing salvation of the soul, and the future redemption of the body. Understanding the tripartite nature of man and the distinctions between these aspects of salvation is crucial for believers. It is a call to surrender our lives to God and allow Him to transform us from the inside out. May we continually seek to grow in our understanding and experience of the complete salvation of our souls.
