What Does The Bible Say About Salvation?

What Does The Bible Say About Salvation? With this in mine, one might ask, “what is salvation?” In simple terms, salvation is defined as deliverance from danger or suffering? Likewise, to save is to deliver or to protect. The word salvation in itself carries the idea of victory, preservation, and general well-being. There are few times that the Bible uses the word salvation to refer to temporal, physical deliverance. Such was the case of Apostle Paul who was delivered from prison (Philippians 1:19). However, in most cases, the word salvation is used to refer to an eternal, spiritual deliverance. When Apostle Paul told the Philippian jailer what he must do to be saved, he was pointing to the jailer’s eternal destiny as we can read from (Acts 16:30-31). Our Lord Jesus Christ equated the act of being saved with entering the Kingdom of God (Matthew 19:24-25).

Another possible question that one might ask on this subject matter is, “what are we are saved from.” In simple terms, the Christian theology of salvation teaches that we are saved from “wrath,” which results from God’s judgement of sin (Romans 5:9; 1 Thessalonians 5:9). The Bible teaches us that we have all sinned (Romans 3:23) and that this sin has separated us from God. It further teaches us that the consequences of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Hence, Biblical salvation refers to our deliverance from sin and its consequences. Furthermore, it has to do with the removal of sin from our lives as the only way through which we can meet God Almighty. This Salvation in question is found in none but Jesus Christ. It is by Believing, Sincerely Repenting, and obeying His Key Teachings that we are given God’s special gift of Eternal Life.

What Does The Bible Say About Salvation?

What does the Scripture say about Salvation?

With respect to who does the saving, we can say without doubt that only God can remove sin and save us from the punishment of sin which is Eternal Condemnation in the Fire of Hell (2 Timothy 1:9; Titus 3:5). The Christian doctrine of salvation stands firm on the fact that God as rescued or saved us through Christ (John 3:17). The Scripture clearly teaches that it was Jesus’ death on the Cross at Calvary and subsequent Resurrection that achieved our salvation (Romans 5:10; Ephesians 1:7). Note that Salvation is the gracious, undeserved gift of God (Ephesians 2:5, 8). This special gift from God is only available through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior as we can read from Acts 4:12 – “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

In respect to how we receive salvation, we can say that it is absolutely through faith. We must first hear and accept the Holy Gospel which is the good news about Jesus’ life, death, and Resurrection (Ephesians 1:13). Secondly, we must believe. Believing here means putting an absolute trust in Jesus Christ for who He says He is and for what He says He will Do (Romans 1:16). Believing is also being convinced of sin, sincerely repenting, and making a change of mind about sin and embracing Jesus Christ and His Teachings (Acts 3:19) as you call on the name of the Lord God Almighty (Romans 10:9-10, 13). We can simply describe the Christian doctrine of salvation as “The deliverance, by the grace of God, from eternal punishment for sin which is granted to those who accept by faith God’s conditions of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus.”

Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. …

For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
