The Bible Verses About Heartbreak reveal God’s mind about this subject matter. In simple terms, the word “heartbreak” means “crushing grief, anguish, or distress.” However, in today’s world, the term “brokenhearted” usually describes a person who has suffered a failed relationship or loss of a loved one. It is unfortunate that a search of the internet makes it appear as though almost all heartbreak comes from being dropped by a lover or after experiencing a divorce. The truth is that, this saying is not always true. A broken-heart might-be brought by a myriad of causes such as loss of possession, unexpected health failure, disappointment in a child’s lifestyle, loss of a job, etc. Whatever be the cause, one thing is sure, the pain from a heartbreak is enormous. And actually requires God’s intervention through the Comforter (Holy Spirit).
In the midst of a heartbreak, the world assert that hope lies in psychoanalysis and medication. Here, advice may include taking antidepressant, getting a makeover, writing an angry letter and tearing it up, going on a shopping spree, etc. A good number of people will simply advocate the power of positive thinking in the midst of a heartbreak. However, the most common “cure” is time. Although the World focuses on feelings, God focuses on the heart (1 Samuel 16:7) from which all thoughts, words, and actions proceed. While the non-Christian may simply experience a wane in the intensity of a heartbreak, only a Christian can truly experience complete recovery because he/she has access to the sovereign power of God’s Spirit who alone “heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
Bible Verses About Heartbreak
What the Scriptures say about Heartbreak
The terrifying events in Job’s life are probably among the first Biblical records of heartbreak. In just a single day, Job lost his children, his wealth, almost all worldly possessions, and his means of livelihood. Let’s hear Job’s response to all these things that happened to him on a single day by reading from Job 1:20-21 – “Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. And he said, ‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.'” This is more than surprising to the human mind. Job was grieved over everything that he had lost, yet he worshiped God and remained faithful. Although he doubted God’s goodness in the midst of these terrible events, they led him closer to God (Job 42:1-5).
Job learned what all believers can learn through heartbreak – God is loving, faithful, good, merciful, trustworthy, and rewarding. David who was a man after God’s heart did suffer many heartbreaks yet was not discouraged. In the midst of his challenges, he praised and worshiped God. We can even say that he saw his challenges, grieve, and heartbreaking events as reasons to pray the more and worship the more. Behold, none of these challenges overcame him because God was with him. Each time that he recovered from these challenges, he became an even stronger man of God. That’s why we can say without doubt that the challenges that come our way are not there to kill us but to make us stronger. Never forget that God is always in control of every situation.
Handling Heartbreaks
In the midst of trouble, we should seek God’s face just as David did in Psalm 34:4 – “I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” God Himself speaks through Prophet Jeremiah saying, “Then you will call to me. You will come an pray to me, and I will answer you” (Jeremiah 29:11). David understood God’s willingness and readiness to answer His children. Let’s support this by reading from Psalm 34:18 – “the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” David further reveals his confidence in God’s love that never fails as we can read from Psalm 34:19 – “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” No matter the intensity of your heartbreak, just have in mind that God is there to deliver you. He is present to wipe your tears.
Be faithful enough to relay on God. Call on Him during hard times and He will restore your joy in ways beyond human imagination. Just as God rescued David and Job during their hard times, He will also do same for you. Romans 8:32 says, “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” God in His unfailing. unconditional, and immeasurable love gave His only beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be sacrificed on the Cross at Calvary for the sins of the world. Today, anyone who welcomes His Key Teachings and Sincerely Repents is given Eternal Life in the presence of God Almighty where he/she is saved from the Fire of Hell. From the beginning of time, God has never failed His people. He always answers at His right time.
