What Does The Bible Say About Protection? As followers of Christ, it is important for us to be aware of our possessions and blessings in Him. Protection is one of the spiritual blessings that we have in Christ Jesus. With this in mind, one might want to know exactly what the Bible says about protection for God’s people. Luckily enough, the Bible holds many promises and examples of physical and spiritual protection. Indeed, the Bible reassures us of God’s unfailing protection offered to His children. Both the Old Testament and New Testament point to the sovereign authority of God over Heaven and Earth and His ability to control everything for the good of those who love Him. As the children of Israel entered the promised land, God pledged to protect them against the nations that will come against them.
Let’s get the promise of God to protect the people of Israel by reading from Exodus 23:27 – “I will send My terror ahead of you, and throw into confusion all the people among whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.” This promise was valid as long as they remained faithful to the Lord God Almighty. This Scripture also reassures us of God’s protection for all those whose thoughts, words, and actions are in accordance to His foreordained plans and purpose. A look into the Psalms of David reveals so many praises to God for having protected His chosen one against his enemies (Psalm 18:3, 54:7, 138:7). The Scripture tells us that no matter the amount of power or wrath that David’s enemies brought against him, they were no match for the protection of God.
What Does The Bible Say About Protection?
The protection of God is real and can be experienced by all those who Believe, Sincerely Repent from their sins, and start obeying the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ. This protection is so powerful that it overcomes death through Jesus Christ and gives Eternal Life to the children of God. If God is with you, no one or nothing can stand against you successfully, not even death. There are many Biblical figures that their lives were a reflection of God’s protection. A good example is Job whose life reflected the protection of God. Despite the fact that Job suffered many life challenges, trials, persecutions, hardships, and temptations due to attacks from Satan, it was God who gave the final word about his situation. Yes, it was God who drew the line of fire in the sand, over which Satan could not cross to bring any more afflictions to Job.
In the life of Job, Satan was limited to doing just what God allowed him to do (Job 1–3). Hence, even through the many afflictions that Job endured, God was still actively protecting him against greater harm. Still in the midst of these many afflictions, God protected Job’s faith, as He allowed Job to be tested only so far before He stepped in and spoke to Job (Job 38–42). Although Job could not see God in action behind the scenes, he came to clearly understand that God’s protection is genuine and never fails for those who love and remain faithful to Him. This is in line with God’s promise of protection to His people (those who love and remain faithful to His ways even in the face of challenges and trials): “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6; Hebrews 13:5; Joshua 1:5; 1 Chronicles 28:20).
What does the Scripture say about Protection
The Scripture says much about God’s promises to protect His people who love Him and keep His commandments. To such people God says “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5; Deuteronomy 31:6; 1 Chronicles 28:20; Joshua 1:5). However, it is important for us to clearly understand that although God has the ability to deliver us out of every calamity, trouble, or life-challenge, it may not be His will to do so. There are times when God decides to use these trials to purify us. During such moments, instead of weeping and grinding our teeth over our situation, we should rather “rejoice in our hearts” because by allowing such trials to come our way, God test our faith or trust in Him to develop more faith that will lead us through perseverance and endurance to spiritual maturity in the likeness of Christ (James 1:2-3).
Just as we previously mentioned, there are trials in life that are not aimed to destroy us but to help us grow spiritually and trust more in God. Hence, protecting us against such trials isn’t beneficial. Some people would think that if God really wanted to protect us, He would provide wealth in this life. However, God does not always protect us from the consequences of our bad financial decisions or our lack of diligence in working. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 says, “Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you.” Behold, God made Solomon extremely wealthy to the point that he is still considered to be the richest king that have ever lived because his attitude or mindset towards wealth was much less than his desire for God’s wisdom and knowledge.
More of what the Scripture says about the protection of God for His people
Just as we previously mentioned, God blessed King Solomon with extreme wealth due to his attitude towards wealth. In the face of wealth and the wisdom of God, Solomon chose wisdom and God decided to accompany it with wealth. We are trying to say here that the Will of God and the love for Him came first in Solomon’s heart. He put God first and God blessed Him with all the other things (Matthew 6:33). However, as King Solomon walked in sin and adultery, his wealth was destroyed. Hence, we can say that God uses wealth to lift up some and bring down others, all of which reflects protection for His own. However, you must avoid taking poor financial decisions for you will stand the risk of facing their consequences all alone. You can as well read the following articles on Christian finances:

All things in Heaven and on Earth belong to God. He is the one who blesses with riches: “Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever” (Psalm 112:1, 3). 1 Samuel 2:7 says, “The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts.” In our quest for riches, we should lay emphasis on achieving Heavenly Riches that last forever (Matthew 6:19-21).
The Essence of God’s Protection
In simple terms, the true essence of God’s protection is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit within the believers or followers of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:21-22). Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:13-14 that the believer in Christ is sealed for the day of final glorification. That is, in Christ, we are protected in all things. However, we need to activate our shield of protection through a life of prayer, studying and obeying God’s commands. In addition, we must trust or have faith in God for His ability to protect us. Psalms 23:4 says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
We are further reassured of the protection of our Lord God Almighty in Psalm 91:7 – “A thousand may fall dead beside you, ten thousand all around you, but you will not be harmed.”
