There are many reasons for division in Christianity which we shall be unfolding in our writing. We must start by saying that the rate of division, confusion, disagreement, and misunderstanding in today’s Church is more than alarming. However, we are not saying here that the early Churches were free from these issues. When we read Apostle Paul’s 1st letter to the Corinthians, we hear him calling Christians to cease all forms of division in the holy body of Christ. He further explains that as Christians, we are all one in the body of Christ within which there is no division but unity.

Hence, we can say without doubt that no man or woman in possession of the Holy Spirit can encourage division in the house of God. Division is not God’s Holy will for us. My spirit weeps upon seeing the division in Church today. And for sure God is not happy about this. Instead of us loving one another and encouraging each other in the Christian race, we are rather doing the contrary. Among Jesus’s last words, we can find that which He said “I leave you with my peace”. We are to remain in this peace and join hands to overcome the evil powers of this world. Our Christian fight is not against flesh and blood, rather it is against the wicked spiritual forces in the heavenly world (Ephesians 6).

Unfortunately these days, we rather allow these wicked forces in a state of freedom while we focus on fighting internal fights with our Christian brothers. By creating room for division and hatred, we are opening doors for the devil to come in and defeat us. That’s why Jesus Christ said that a kingdom that divides itself into small groups that fight each other won’t last (Matthew 12:25).

Jesus Christ took the human nature an lived among men on Earth. Modern Christianity is made up of three main branches which are Eastern Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism, and Protestantism. The Eastern Orthodox denomination is popularly practiced in the Eastern European countries as well as Russia. Pride

Being a Christian does not mean that you are free from pride. Rather we as Christians are called upon by Christ to overcome this Spiritual killer called pride. Most divisions in Church today did arise due to the pride within spiritual leaders who felt more important than others. As Christians, we are not supposed to look high on ourselves while putting others t inferior positions. That’s why we perceive Him washing the feet of His Apostles. This is a great example of humility for us. Whatever the case, anyone who lowers himself before God and men will be lifted while those who lift themselves will be brought to ground level (Philippians 2:5-11).

Misunderstanding

One of the reasons for division in Christianity is misunderstanding. People are more likely to receive and interpret the same piece of message in different ways. Tradition has greatly played a major role in Church division. That’s why we hereby include it among the reasons for division in Christianity. While some people do things in Church just because their ancestors did it that way, others prefer to step out and explore new methods of worshiping and praising God. Up till date, we still have Churches who follow the procedures or worship which were installed in the early Church. And it has been noticed that those who are not always OK with this way of doing things are more likely to move a way and start a new denomination.

Tradition is good because it helps us to remain on the tracks and foot steps of the early Christians which were close to Jesus Christ. It also saves us from adopting wrong or unpleasant methods of pleasing God. However, other people believe in innovation. They want to experiment and adopt new strategies of worship as the pray and call on the Holy Spirit to help them.

Division according to people

We’ve got a number of individuals who have led to division in the Christian body due to their person points of views. However, some claim to have been directed by the Holy Spirit. The whole truth is that Jesus Christ could not die without completing his work on Earth. That’s why the Bible says in the Gospel of John that the Jews, Pharisees, and teachers of the Law had tried killing Jesus Christ on about 3 times without success. The Scripture even goes up to saying that they could not killing him because he had to accomplish what God sent him for. In short it was not his time. May God have mercy on their founders and help them to realize their mistakes so as to stop leading His children astray.

Read your Bible

It pains me to see Christians easily led astray by false doctrines even when they sleep day and night with the Bible on their head bed. I feel like saying that the Christians of old who had no Bible were much better than us today. The Bible says that there is no teacher apart from Jesus Christ. So if I stand in front of you in the name of the Gospel, I must completely reflect the teachings of Jesus Christ and nothing else. Not even one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ ever taught a gospel which was not from Jesus Christ talk less of bringing a new one in the name of completing his teachings. And so how can we blind fully follow people who are trying to make a name for themselves through Jesus Christ.

How Judgement will look like

As Christians, we should always keep in mind that religious leaders will not answer for our sins on the day of Judgement. Everyone will be held responsible for their wrongs and shortcomings. If found guilty, you’ll be sent to dwell in hell for eternity. If found innocent through Christ, you’ll be sent to dwell in heaven for eternity. And the moment everyone is responsible for their acts, it’s each and everyone’s responsibility to learn and know what Jesus Christ is truly teaching through the Four Gospels. Listen what your Spiritual leader is saying but always make sure that what they are saying is in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ. The gospel is at the reach of everyone, that’s why you should not allow people carry titles and mislead you.

Always remember that spiritual leaders are not very different from us and they’ll be judged just as everyone. They’ll be called upon to answer their acts as well. They are not Holy Men and Women. They do not have the full or complete understanding of God’s ways. They are not Gods. It’s true that we all owe respect to our spiritual leaders but we must all make sure that we execute only what they teach in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ. Sun Myung Moon of the unification church or the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity is a mere human like you and me. He’ll answer for his sins just as you and me. That’s why you should not blind fully follow him without testing hi teachings with the standard and true teaching of Jesus Christ.   • Does going to the football field makes you a footballer? I guess no, it’s rather by playing football that you are considered a footballer.

If we are ok up to this point, then why do we want to create an exception in God’s house. Just as a footballer and a non-footballer can move to the football field to watch friends play, a Christian and a non-Christian can find themselves in church.

To be a Christian means to follow Jesus Christ while obeying His teachings. It’s not by finding yourself in church that you become a Christian. If you perceive going to church as respecting the 3rd commandment in Deuteronomy 5:12, then you are wrong. The Sabbath as mentioned there has never existed as a Sunday, rather it existed and still exists as Saturday.  But this is not even our problem for the moment because Apostle Paul says in Romans 3:21 that we are not put right with God through the Laws of Moses but through Jesus Christ who fulfilled and revealed the whole truth about pleasing God and gaining eternal life.

Rather we are focus on why simply going to church does not make you a Christian. In bringing more light to this, we can refer to Romans 2:13 whereby Apostle Paul tells us that we are not saved from the fire of hell by simply listening to the teachings of God but by putting these teachings which we hear into practice. That’s why we’ll say that going to church or meeting in a Christian gathering is something very nice as it will permeate you to learn and no more about the teachings of Jesus Christ who said that whenever two or more people are gathered in His name, He is with them and will certainly bless them (Mathew 18:20). But we must say again that by simply hearing his word and not putting it into action does not make you any better than someone who has not received the teachings neither the one who sits at home and reads the Bible but does not apply it.

Instead of dwelling in error by considering our church going duty as one which brings life, it is wise for us to focus on learning and putting into action the gospel of Jesus Christ which represents the one and only truth that leads to God as explained by Apostle Paul in Romans 1:16

Hence it is not by putting more value to Sundays and regularly going to church that makes us safe. While going to church can lead us to being saved by Jesus Christ as we listen to his teachings and put them into action, the process of going to church itself does not bring salvation. Although many people argue that going to church on Sundays is one of the prerequisites to being saved, Apostle Paul encourages us to welcome and not argue with those who consider some days during the week more important than others. In addition, he encourages us to make up our minds about our decisions concerning such while making sure that whatever we are doing, we do it for the glory of God (Romans 14:5)

Since the times of Jesus, Christian gatherings have always been of great importance as they give room for two or more people to sing praises and worship songs to God. Jesus Christ during His stay on Earth had always encouraged Christians to love each other and work together towards the same goals thereby showing the importance of a church.
