There are many Bible Verses About Evil worth knowing by all followers of Christ. It is without doubt that the Bible has a good number of things to say about evil. We are all living in a fallen World where evil exist. In other words, evil is real. However, evil was not part of God’s design for mankind. This is to say that God is not responsible for the evil that we are living today. However, we can rather say that evil only exist by His permission. Note that the Bible tells us that God is able to overrule evil for good. And for sure, He will certainly do this but at His own time. It is worth noting that evil does not work in a logical or rational way; it is such that, it affects everyone whether good or bad.
Brethren, let no one deceive you for a person cannot commit evil acts without paying some penalty. In other words, breaking God’s Laws comes with some penalties. And talking of breaking God’s laws is talking of sin. Sin is anything that we think, say, or do that is not inline with God’s will. It must be understood here that the Bible says that the consequences of sin is death. However, God so loved the world that He send His only beloved Son, Jesus Christ, so that anyone who believes in His message is saved from the power of death (John 3:16). God is involved in solving the problem of evil given that He sent His Son to die on the Cross at Calvary for our sins. Today, anyone who Sincerely Repents from their evil ways and starts obeying the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ is given Eternal Life.
Bible Verses About Evil
What the Scriptures Say About Evil?
1. Where Did Evil Originate?
The word evil is mentioned in the Bible for the first time in Genesis 2:17 – “You must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Hence, we can say without doubt that God created humans with the ability to choose good and evil. That is, mankind was given the choice to choose between what is good and what is evil. And because mankind chose evil, sin entered the world from that very day as did judgement. This is what is referred to in theology as the fall of man. The judgement which entered the world from the fall of man also extends to the serpent, Satan, the one who deceived mankind into choosing evil and going against God’s ways and who is still doing same these days.
Brethren, let no one deceive you for evil did not originate from God. Humans went wrong or sinned as a result of actively listening to the lie of Satan. Note here that Satan was one of God’s divinely created beings, but one who turned to evil and extended it to humanity. In simple terms, God did not create evil, but He eventually created a universe in which evil could exist. God created humans with the ability to choose between evil and good in this universe. Romans 3:23 tells us that sin was passed unto the rest of humanity due to the disobedience of Adam and Eve. Theologians refer to this as the sinful nature of mankind which comes from birth. When talking of evil people, many think of drug dealers, thieves, and terrorist, but the Bible clearly points out that we are all sinners with a sinful nature (Romans 6:23).
2. Why Didn’t God Stop Evil?
It is without doubt that God knows everything. That is, He is aware of all that took place in the past and all that will take place in the future. This means that He knew everything from the beginning of creation. Having this in mind, many question themselves why God allowed evil to enter the world? They as themselves why God could not prevent evil from entering the world? But are these the questions we should be asking ourselves? This is an old-century topic that has been in a continuous discussion between philosophers and Christian spiritual leaders. Nothing happens without God’s knowledge or Him being aware. Remember that He created man to have a choice between obeying him or not. Whatever the case, Jesus Christ pours more light on this subject matter in His parable of the Weeds (Matthew 13:24-30).
Matthew 13:24-30 – “Jesus said:The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. The owner’s servants came to him and said, “Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?”“An enemy did this,” he replied. The servants asked him, “Do you want us to go and pull them up?”“No,” he answered, “because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.”
