Bible Verses About Judgement Day

Knowing the Best Bible Verses About Judgement Day will help you to better prepare yourself. But what is Judgement Day? It is the day of God’s final, ultimate judgement on sinful mankind. Several Scriptural passages point to the final judgement after death at the end of time when everyone will stand before God to give an account of his/her thoughts, words, and actions. On several occasions, the Bible severely warns us against the Judgement Day. Prophet Malachi wrote saying: “‘Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,’ says the LORD Almighty. ‘Not a root or a branch will be left to them’” (Malachi 4:1). John the Baptist also spoke of the need to “flee from the coming wrath” (Luke 3:7).

Apostle Paul also spoke of the coming judgement when he wrote to the unrepentant: “Because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. God ‘will repay each person according to what they have done’” (Romans 2:5–6; cf. Psalm 62:12). Hence, Judgement Day is a sure event. On several occasions in the scriptures, we perceive God passing judgement on individuals and nations. For example, Isaiah 17-23 is a series of judgement being pronounced against Damascus, Egypt, Babylon, Cush, Jerusalem, Arabia, and Tyre. Behold, these localized judgement serve to foreshadow that which is to come (Isaiah 24 is a description of God’s final judgement over the whole world).

Bible Verses About Judgement Day

What the Scriptures say about Judgement Day

In most cases, there is a temporal judgement on sin that takes place in this life, but the Final Judgement will take place at the end of time. Revelation 19:17-21 records or makes mention of a great battle in which the enemies of God are slaughtered (and this is likely the image that popup in the minds of many whenever they think of the Judgement Day). However, this is only a temporal judgement which will be passed on those who will be alive by the time of the great battle. The Final Judgement is one that will encompass everyone who has ever lived and will consign each and everyone accordingly to their final destiny. Let’s get one of the Scriptural vivid description of the Judgement Day by reading from:

Revelation 20:11-15 – “Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

Facts about the Judgement Day

In Revelation 20:11-15, we perceive that God is the Final Judge. According to Jesus Christ, it is the Son who will render Final Judgement, so it must be He who is siting on the throne as mentioned in Revelation 20:11-15 (John 5:16–30; cf. Revelation 7:17). The final judgement is one which is comprehensive. It will bring forth everyone including those who have ever died, small and great (insignificant as well as significant). Truth be told, no one escapes Judgement Day. The judgement of Judgement Day will be carried out according to what individuals have done in their lives – all will be judged according to their works. It is important to understand here that you won’t be judged according to what others did or didn’t do but will stand judgement alone, responsible for your own actions.

Although judgement is based on works, it is not a matter of weighing good deeds against bad. Ultimately, our entrance into heaven or hell is based on whether or not our names are written in the Book of Life (Revelation 20:11-15). Those whose names are not found in the Book of Life will be cast into the Lake of Fire. Such people are those who rejected the call of Jesus Christ for a Sincere Repentance. They have refused to obey His Key Teachings nor Believe that He is the Son of Jehovah, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. God’s special gift of Eternal Life has not been offered to such people. Revelation 21:27 reiterates and clearly points to the fact that only those whose names are written in the Lambs Book of Life will enter the New Heaven and the New Earth.

Justification through Jesus Christ

Romans 5:1 says, “Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” The person who has faith in Jesus Christ has already had judgement rendered. The person has been justified – that is, declared righteous by God on the basis of Christ’s work on his behalf. Remember that Christ was crucified on the Cross for our sins. Although, He was holy and had no sin of His own that merited death, He willingly gave up His life as a price for our own sins. He did this so that anyone who believes in Him may not die but have everlasting life. Hence, anyone who has faith in Christ has been justified. It is like the final judgement that would have taken place on Judgement Day has been rendered in advanced.

All who have faith in Christ have been declared righteous, and their names have been written in the Book of Life. Such people have nothing to fear on the Judgement Day because their punishment was borne by Christ on the Cross at Calvary (Romans 8:1). However, it is important to understand that having faith in Christ has to do with welcoming Him and following His Teachings. This is how we show our love for Him and our desire for Eternal Life. Behold, Christ is full of Eternal Life, ready and willing to give to anyone who loves Him. Loving Him is obeying His commands (John 14:21). And Loving Him is loving the One who sent Him, God the Father Almighty. Judgement Day will be a day of final salvation for those who have faith in Christ as they’ll be freed from all kinds of suffering and sin (Malachi 4:2–3).

Christ is the one who takes away sin

Hebrews 9:27–28 says, “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him”.
