What Does The Bible Say About The Mediator?

What Does The Bible Say About The Mediator? The answer to this question is worth knowing by all who desire to experience God’s love, mercy, power, favor, and strength. Someone might ask, “what is a mediator?” A mediator is one who mediates. That is one who acts as an intermediary to work with opposite sides in order to bring about a settlement. A mediator focuses on influencing a disagreement that exist between two parties with the main goal of resolving a dispute and restoring peace. God brought mankind into existence to dwell in His ways but mankind failed. Yes, mankind rebelled against God’s Sovereignty. By rebelling against God, mankind wandered far away from His presence, mercy, favor, and grace thereby needing a mediator.

Because we’ve all sinned against God and fallen short of His glory (Romans 3:23), we all need a Mediator to reconcile us with God. Truth be told, there is only one Mediator between Mankind and God, and that is Jesus Christ. It is important to understand here that we are doomed if we try to represent ourselves alone before God. Jesus Christ says in John 14:6 – “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” In addition, Acts 4:12 says, “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we are saved.” By Believing, Sincerely Repenting, and obeying the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ, we are given God’s special gift of Eternal Life.

What Does The Bible Say About The Mediator?

What the Scriptures say about the Mediator

The Scripture tells us that God has a dispute with us because of sin. The Bible describes sin as transgression of God’s Law (1 John 3:4) and rebellion against His ways (Deuteronomy 9:7; Joshua 1:18). Behold, God hates sin. This is because sin stands as an obstacle between us and Him. Sin prevents us from reflecting God’s nature or identifying ourselves as His children. Romans 3:10 says, “There is no one righteous, not even one.” In simple terms, all human beings are sinners. In addition to the sins we commit on daily basis, we inherited an original sin from Adam. And behold, the only just punishment for this sin is death as we can read from Romans 6:23. It is important to understand here that we are not only talking of physical death but eternal death as mentioned in Revelation 20:11–15.

The rightful punishment for sin is eternal condemnation in the Lake of Fire. Nothing we could do on our own will be sufficient to mediate between ourselves and God. In the same light, there is no amount of law-keeping or good works that makes us worthy or righteous enough to stand before a Holy God (Isaiah 64:6; Romans 3:20; Galatians 2:16). It is important to understand here that without a mediator, we are destined to spend eternity in hell. This is because, by ourselves salvation from our sins is impossible. Luckily enough, we have hope through Christ thanks to God’s love for mankind. 1 Timothy 2:5 says, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” Jesus Christ represents all those who have placed their trust in Him before God’s throne of grace.

The Truth about our Mediator, Jesus Christ

We are made beneficiaries of God’s Grace (unmerited favor and forgiveness of sins) through Jesus Christ. Christ is our representative before God’s throne of righteousness. Anyone who trust in Christ can expect to benefit from God’s gift of eternal life through the mediation of Christ. Truth be told, Jesus Christ mediates for us, much as a defense attorney mediates for his client , telling the judge, “Your honor, my client is innocent of all charges against him.” Such is true for us who are in Christ by faith. A day is coming when we shall face God, but we shall do this as totally forgiven sinners through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross at Calvary.

That is, the “Defense Attorney” took the punishment on our behalves. Let’s support this spiritual truth by reading from Hebrews 9:15 – “For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that He has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.” It is thanks to the Great Mediator that we are able to stand before God clothed in the righteousness of Christ Himself. On the very Cross at Calvary, Jesus the Messiah exchanged our sins for His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). The Bible says that He became a curse for our sake. He paid the price for our sins although He had no sin of His own. Today, we can say without doubt that His mediation is the only means of salvation for mankind (John 14:6).
