What Does The Bible Say About The Comforter

What Does The Bible Say About The Comforter? Truth be told, many are the special gifts of God, but none is greater than the uniquely offered gift of the Holy Spirit. Behold brethren, let no one deceive you for the Holy Spirit is a Comforter, Divine Helper, and Wise Counselor for all the committed followers of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. This spiritual truth is supported by the Best Bible Verses On Comforter. Before the death of Jesus Christ, He promised not to leave His disciples as orphans as we can read from John 14:16 – “And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever.” The “Divine Comforter,” Jesus Christ said, would work in guiding His beloved disciples into “all spiritual truth about the things of God’s Kingdom.”

In the King James Version of the Bible, the Greek word Parakletos is rendered “Comforter,” “Helper,” and “Counselor,” in most modern English versions. This special spiritual term which has its origins from the words of Jesus Christ denotes the Helper or Counselor who is always there and more than ever willing and ready to provide special care in times of need. However, the Holy Spirit is more than a mere Comforter, Helper, and Counselor. It is the Spirit of God that brings Encouragement, Hope, and also acts as an Advocate before the Father of Creation, God. An objective analysis reveals that the Holy Spirit is the representative of the Son, Jesus Christ, in as much as the Son was the representative of God the Father Almighty.

What Does The Bible Say About The Comforter?

The scriptural expression “another counselor” as we can read from John 14:16 means “another counselor of the same kind just as the first.” From all angles, this implies that Jesus Christ was the very first Divine Counselor to dwell among men as we can read from 1 John 2:1 – I am writing this to you, my children, so that you will not sin; but if anyone does sin, we have someone who pleads with the Father on our behalf – Jesus Christ, the righteous one.” Jesus Christ in promising the coming of the Holy Spirit meant it to be the same kind of Counselor to His disciples as He was. Despite the fact that Jesus Christ is not among us in the flesh, the Holy Spirit is always with us and acting as our constant companion to help, guide, and empower us to win the Christian race.

Jesus Christ identified the Holy Spirit in the Person of the wonderful Counselor as the source that leads into all truth. This is to say that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit that reveals the Truth about God and His Heavenly Kingdom. We are generally tempted to have our minds puzzling over how it would be if Jesus Christ could be with us on Earth today just as He was some 2000 years ago. If we frequently saw Him and dwell in His physical presence as those in the Biblical times , wouldn’t that facilitate our lives? We could easily request answers to those sophisticated questions that are depriving our minds from rest. We could also ask Him about those difficult decisions we have to make, such as picking up the right life partner, house buying, job changes, unanswered Bible questions, or perhaps just ask Him to heal us.

The physical departure of Christ from the Earth was for our good

The idea of savior that we could see, touch, hear, and talk to is one that gets everyone overwhelmed. That’s why many think that if Jesus Christ was still physically present on Earth, their lives would be less challenging as they’ll reach out to him for answers to their complex questions, healing, deliverance, blessings, and counselling on major life decisions like marriage, job changes, and more. In one way or the other, we’ve all had thoughts of this nature. Unfortunately, things do not present themselves the way we thought they should. It is without doubt that Jesus Christ physically departed from the Earth as we can read from the Bible Verses About Ascension. On several occasions towards the close of His Earthly Ministry, He announced His departure (John 16:28).

Let’s support our message by reading from John 16:28 – “I did come from the Father, and I came into the World; and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father.” And even if Jesus Christ was physically present in our midst, how certain are we that He’ll unfold all mysteries and give us the answers that our ears are itching to hear. Perhaps, He would not solve our problems exactly the way we want. Remember that at times we strive for things that are not in line with the will of God. And for sure Jesus Christ won’t help us in such circumstances but rather invite us to return to the true path that leads to life. He might as well ask us to take responsibility of our actions.

Why the physical departure of Jesus Christ from Earth is said to be for our good – John 16:7

John 16:7 –But I am telling you the truth; it is better for you that I go away, because if I do not go, the Helper will not come to you. But if I do go away, then I will send Him to you.” Christ in His own words pointed out that physically departing from the Earth was for the good of his disciples. As we’ve just read from John 16:7, the Holy Spirit could not descend on us as long as Christ remained in our midst. His departure opened the Heavens thereby releasing the Holy Spirit that came as the Divine Helper, Comforter, Counselor and Spirit of God to dwell in men who Sincerely Repent and obey the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ.

Things you should know about Christ, the Comforter, and God

Jesus Christ Himself was the Great comforter while He was physically present on Earth. He was a source of comfort to many as we can read from the scriptures. Just to point out a few examples to sharpen your understanding, Christ was a comforter to the woman who had bled for twelve years. By healing the sickness, Christ restored life, joy, happiness, and peace within her whole being. On another occasion, Christ comforted Blind Bartimaeus by restoring his sight. Remember the words that Blind Bartimaeus was told, “Be of good comfort, rise; He calleth thee.” Christ comforted the people thereby fulfilling the prophesy which was spoken out by Prophet Isaiah when he said part of the Messiah’s mission was to comfort those that mourn (Isaiah 61:2).

It is worth noting that Jesus Christ in no way forsook or deserted His followers. In His own words, He reassured them that, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” – Matthew 28:20. We can as well get the same message from John 14:18-19 – “I will not leave you orphans,” He promised; “I will come to you. A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me.” Christ also said that if a person truly loves and obeys Him, He will love the person and manifest or reveal Himself to him/her (John 14:21). Also note that all those who remain faithful to God and obey the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ are those who love Him. For such people, Jesus Christ and the Father Almighty will come and dwell in him/her for all times (John 14:23).
