What Does The Bible Say About Grace?

What Does The Bible Say About Grace? Behold, grace is a constant theme in the Bible that culminates in the New Testament with the coming of God’s Son, Jesus Christ (John 1:17). Charis is the Greek word being translated in the New Testament as “grace.” Charis means “favor, blessing, or kindness.” Although we can all extend grace to one another, when the word is used in connection with God, it has a deeper and more powerful meaning. Grace is all about God choosing to bless us rather than cursing us as we deserve due to our sinful nature. Grace is God’s benevolence to the undeserving. And talking of undeserving is talking of humanity because non of us is worthy before God. The Bible says that we have all sinned and wronged Him in one way or the other (Romans 3:23).

Apostle Paul in Ephesians 2:8 says, “For by grace are you saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves.” Because we have all sinned, the only way that we can enter into a relationship with God is by grace through His Son, Jesus Christ. Let’s support this by reading from John 3:16 – “For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have Eternal Life.” It was out of God’s love for mankind that He send His beloved Son, Jesus Christ to take our place on the cross as ransom for our sins. Today, anyone who Sincerely Repents and starts obeying the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ is given Eternal Life and saved from the Lake of Fire. All these achievements are possible due to God’s unfailing Grace through Christ our Lord and Savior.

What Does The Bible Say About Grace?

What does the Scriptures say about Grace

Grace began in the Garden of Eden when God killed an animal to cover the sin of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:21). God was able to strike the first humans with death for their disobedience and rebellion. But in His unfailing love and goodness, He chose to make a way for them to be right with Him. This very pattern of grace continued across the whole Old Testament as God instituted the use of animal blood sacrifices as a means of atonement for the sins of men. Behold, it was not the physical blood of those sacrifices that actually cleaned sinners, but the grace of God that forgave those who trusted in Him (Genesis 15:6; Hebrews 10:4). Back then, sinful men demonstrated their faith by offering the sacrifices as commanded by God.

An objective look across the New Testament reveals how Apostle Paul began most of His Letters to the believers with the phrase, “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 1:7; 1 Corinthians 1:3; Ephesians 1:1). Apostle Paul regularly used this phrase because He understood that God is the instigator of grace, and that He is the source of all other grace. It is important to understand here that God shows both Mercy and Grace, although they are not the same. Mercy withholds a punishment that we deserve whereas Grace gives us a blessing that we don’t deserve. In mercy, God chose to cancel our sins by sacrificing His only Son in our place (Titus 3:5; 2 Corinthians 5:21). Note that God goes further than mercy to extend grace even to His enemies (Romans 5:10).
