Knowing the Best Bible Verses About Jesus Christ is actually knowing the Good News about the Love of God for mankind. Jesus (c. 4 BC – c. AD 30 / 33), who is also referred to as Jesus of Nazareth and Jesus Christ is the beloved Son of God who was sent to save all those who believe in Him. From above as God the Son, He took the human form and walked among men during the first-century as a Jewish preacher and religious leader. He was sent by God the Father to make known His ways to mankind. John 3:16 says, “For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have everlasting life.” Behold, Jesus is the central figure of Christianity.
Jesus is the incarnation of God the Son and the awaited Messiah (the Christ) whose coming was prophesied in the Old Testament. Jesus came to be a Galilean Jew who was baptized by John the Baptist and began His own ministry. He taught the ways of God to everyone who came His way. He preached orally with deep knowledge and understanding of the Scripture that He was often referred to as “rabbi”. Jesus Christ actively gathered followers and debated with fellow Jews on how to best follow God. He also ministered healing, deliverance, freedom, eternal life, and revealed the deep things about the Kingdom of God in parables. Although He did no wrong, He was arrested and tried by the Jewish authorities who wanted Him dead. In their evil, they handed Him over to the Roman government, and He was crucified on the order of Pontius Pilate, the Roman Prefect.
Bible Verses About Jesus Christ
What the Scriptures say about Jesus Christ
Christ was nailed on the Cross at Calvary, where He remained till death. He was buried and after three days, He conquered death and came back to life body and spirit just as He had initially told His followers. His immediate followers and those who believe in Him are witnesses of His Resurrection. Today, He is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth, who gave Him all authority in Heaven, on Earth, under the Earth, and in the world to come (Matthew 28:18; Philippians 2:10-11). And behold, anyone who hears His voice (Key Teachings of Jesus Christ)and Sincerely Repents is offered Eternal Life in the presence of God the Father. Such a person will be saved from the Fire of Hell which awaits those who reject Him. Just as Christ overcame death, He will also do same for all His followers.
It is rather unfortunate that we are living in an age of religious pluralism and moral relativism. The untruthful popular spiritual philosophy is that all religious belief systems, as long as heart-felt, are equal. This philosophical way of thinking teaches that you should pick one, follow it sincerely, and you’ll get into Heaven. This is actually what the world teaches. But behold, Jesus Christ teaches otherwise. In John 14:6, Jesus declares: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” If no one can access the Heavenly presence of God the Father without going through Jesus Christ, then He is more than just a mere Prophet as some would say. Let’s get to better understand His personality through the following steps:
Jesus Christ was 100% Man
As we can read from John 1:14, Jesus became flesh and walked among men. Indeed, He took the human flesh and made His dwelling among us. One might ask why His humanity is so important? It is said in Hebrew 4:15 that Jesus was tempted in every way, just as we are. As such, He can genuinely sympathize with our weakness as humans. According to 1 John 3:5, Jesus took the human form and came to earth so as to die a physical death as a way of taking away our sins and making us worth entering God’s Kingdom. Hence, Jesus Christ is the Key to membership into God’s Family.
Jesus Christ was 100% God
One might be wondering how it was possible for Christ’s human body to hold the whole deity and glory of God. According to John 1:1-3, Jesus existed from the beginning. From the very beginning, Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God. This Biblical scripture clearly points to the inseparable nature of Jesus and God the Father Almighty, Creator of the Universe. Below are some Biblical scriptures that support the truth that Jesus is 100% God:
- Jesus’ own identification/claim: John 10:30-38, Mark 14:61-64, Matthew 16:13-17
- Claims of Christ’s followers: Hebrews 1:8, Colossians 1:16, John 12:40 (quoting Isaiah 6:1-10)
- Fulfillment of Prophecy: Matthew 13:14, Luke 24:44
- Resurrection: Luke 24:39, Mark 8:31, Acts 17:32
Jesus Christ is the ONLY WAY to Heaven
In John 14:6, Jesus declares: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” While other religions in the world focus on works, the Bible tells us that it is not our works that make us perfect nor give us entrance into Heaven but the grace of God. Ephesians 2:8-9 – “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” Hence our relationship with Christ is one of faith in His resurrection power. Good works or repeated rituals won’t guarantee your salvation, only Jesus in whom there are good works. Acts 4:12 is clear, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
Facts About Jesus Christ
Unlike the question “Does God Exist?” very few people question whether Jesus Christ existed. It is generally and historically accepted that Jesus Christ was truly a man who walked on the earth some 2000 years ago in Israel. The debate or issue comes in when the full identity of Jesus is being discussed. Almost every major religion teaches that Jesus was a Prophet or a godly man, or a good teacher. The problem is that the Bible tells us that Jesus was more than a Prophet, a good teacher, or a godly man. C.S. Lewis in his book Mere Christianity writes the following: “I am trying here to prevent anyone from saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him [Jesus Christ]: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God.’ That is the one thing we must not say.
A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic—on a level with a man who says he is a poached egg—or else he would be the Devil of hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come up with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that option open to us. He did not intend to.”
More Facts
Jesus’ words in John 10:30 are clear, “I and the Father are one.” Upon glancing at this scripture for the first time, one might think that it is not a claim to be God. However, let’s get to better understand this statement by looking at the Jews’ reaction “‘We are not stoning you for any of these,’ replied the Jews, ‘but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God’” (John 10:33). Behold, the Jews clearly understood Jesus’ statement as a claim to be God. Interestingly, in the following verses, Jesus did not correct the Jews by saying, “I did not claim to be God.” Hence, Jesus was truly saying that He was God by declaring; “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). We can have another good example in John 8:58: “‘I tell you the truth,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!’”
The next verse (John 8:59) speaks of how the Jews tried stoning Jesus. Why would the Jews want to stone Jesus? In John 8:58, we clearly hear Jesus presenting Himself as “I AM” (Old Testament name for God (Exodus 3:14)). They tried stoning Him because they believed that he had said something blasphemous, namely, a claim to be God. John 1:1 says “the Word was God.” In addition, John 1:14 says “the Word became flesh.” This is a clear indication that Jesus was the word who took flesh. Thomas, one of Jesus’ Apostles, declared: “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28). Behold, Jesus did not correct him because he had not said wrong. Apostle Paul describes Jesus as, “…our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). Apostle Peter speaks of Him in the same way “…our God and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:1).
