What Does The Bible Say About God?

What Does The Bible Say About God? The answer to this question will help us to understand God’s Divine Nature and Sovereignty over Heaven and Earth. As followers of Jesus Christ, we perceive God as a Supreme Being, Principal Object of Faith, and Creator Deity. In addition, we perceive Him as being omnipotent (all-powerful), Omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (all-present) and One with a necessary and eternal existence. In simple terms, God has no beginning and no ending. He has always been existing and He will always exist. No human mind can fully understand His complexity. As humans, we are only allowed to know the little that He has revealed about His nature. With mere words, God created Heaven and Earth together with all that is in them.

We ourselves are the products of His hands. He is most often held to be incorporeal (immaterial). It is important to understand here that the incorporeality and corporeality of God are directly related to the concept of transcendence (being outside nature) and immanence (being in nature). In this light, we can point to a position of synthesis such as the “immanence transcendence.” Judaism which is the religion through which God revealed Himself to mankind describes Him using sex-specific terminologies. They attribute only a grammatical gender to God as they use terms such as “Him” or “Father” for convince. As pointed out by theism, God is the creator and sustainer of the universe. In the Hebrew Bible and Judaism, Elohim, Adonai, YHWH (Hebrew: יהוה‎) are some of the names used in referring to God. With Yahweh and Jehovah being vocalizations of YHWH in Christianity.

The Fact about God?

Whether it is through man’s conscience of creation, the fact of God’s existence is so conspicuous, that the Bible calls the atheist a “fool” (Psalm 14:1). An objective look across the Bible will reveal that it does not try by any means to prove the existence of God; rather, it fully assumes His existence from the very beginning (Genesis 1:1). The Bible is rather focused on revealing the nature, character, and work of God. However, the Bible points to the spiritual truth that all those following God do so by faith and not necessarily by sight nor proof.

Who is God?

Thinking of God in the right way is of a great importance. Failing to do so will lead to a false idea about God which is referred to as idolatry. In a simple language, we can say that God is “the Supreme Being; the all-present; goodness, and wisdom; the Creator and Ruler of all that is; the all-knowing; the all-powerful; the Self-existent One who is perfect in power.

How is the Nature of God?

Today, we know a few things about the sovereign nature of God for one reason: in His unfailing love, compassion, immeasurable love, and mercy, He has condescended to reveal some of His qualities to us through the Bible verses about God. God is Spirit, by nature intangible as we can read from John 4:24. In addition, God is One, but He exist as Three Persons – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16-17). Apostle Paul in His letter to Timothy pints out that God is Infinite (1 Timothy 1:17). In accordance to the words of Prophet Samuel, God is Incomparable (2 Samuel 7:22). The Psalmist writes that God is everywhere (Psalm 139:7-12) and the He knows everything (Psalm 147:5). God is unchanging (Malachi 3:6). Apostle Paul further writes that God has all power and authority (Ephesians 1).

How is the Character of God like?

The Bible clearly reveals some of God’s characteristics among which we can deduce the facts that God is loving (Ephesians 2:4-5), just (Acts 17:31), holy (1 John 1:5), and truthful (John 14:6). In addition, we can say without doubt that God shows mercy (Romans 9:15), compassion (2 Corinthians 1:3), offers forgiveness (Psalm 130:4), and eventually judges (Psalm 5:5).

What are some of the works of God?

We cannot clearly understand God apart from His works. This is simply because the works that He does flow from who He is. God did it in the past, He is still doing it these days, and He will certainly do it in times to come. Let’s now look at some of the works of God, past, present, and future: (Genesis 1:1; Isaiah 42:5); He is actively sustaining the world from above (Colossians 1:17); God Almighty is currently executing His eternal plan (Ephesians 1:11) which has to do with redeeming man from the curse of sin which leads to death (Galatians 3:13-14); He runs His redemption plan by drawing man to Christ (John 6:44); God disciplines His children out of love (Hebrews 12:6); and He will judge the whole world and reward everyone accordingly while punishing the wicked (Revelation 20:11-15).

How can I begin and enhance a relationship with God?

In the person of the Son, God became incarnate (John 1:14). That is, the Son of God, Jesus Christ, became the Son of Man, and is therefore the “bridge” between God and man (John 14:6; 1 Timothy 2:5). Hence, anyone who desires to begin and enhance a relationship with God that will lead him/her to eternal life must welcome Jesus Christ. It is only through the Son that we can have our sins forgiven and offered eternal life in God’s presence (Ephesians 1:7). The blood of Jesus Christ brings reconciliation between us and God (John 15:15; Romans 5:10). This very blood from the sacrifice that was made by Christ brings forth eternal life (2 Timothy 2:10). To partake in this Eternal Life, we must Sincerely Repent from our sins and start obeying the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ. Failing to do this will lead us into the Lake of Fire.
