The unification church was founded by Reverend Sun Myung Moon who originates from South Korea. This religious movement started in 1954. It has the greatest number of members in South Asia, Korea, and Japan. This notwithstanding, it extends to over 100 countries where it has a good number of members. It started as the Holy Spirit Association for the unification of world Christianity until the year 1990 when it changed to the Family Federation for World Peace and unification.

It happened that Moon’s family was initially following Confucianism. However, they converted to Christianity when Moon was still a kid. This made him grew in a Presbyterian church where his family was fellowshipping. His commitment led him to start teaching in a Sunday school. He says that when he reached 16 years, he had a vision where Jesus Christ asked him to complete the work he did not finish thereby establishing the kingdom of God on Earth so as to bring peace.
This was perceived as a contradictory doctrine in the Presbyterian church and led to his excommunication. But this did not stop him neither. He continued with his preaching which led him to present day North Korea. Once there, he was accused and arrested for being a spy to South Korea. At some point in time, Reverend Sun Myung Moon fled to South Korea where he started his unification church. This happened near the end of the Korean war. It was upon starting his church that he started formulating his own doctrinal views. These views led to a new religion which focuses on family and marriage values. Most of these spiritual views resulted from a mixture of Christian beliefs and teachings of Confucius. After teaching in his church for three years, he published a book which was entitled “Exposition of the Divine Principles”. This was not really a book as you might think. In addition, they believe that since Jesus Christ who is the second Adam was crucified before accomplishing his mission on Earth, a third Adam was to complete it.
