Learn How To Accept Jesus Into Your Life. The Bible clearly says and makes us understand that there is only one way to Heaven, Jesus Christ. In John 14:6, Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This one way to Heaven that the Bible talks of is to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and follow God’s plans in the Bible for our lives. It is important for us to understand that good works cannot save us and that faith in Jesus Christ alone can save us. In support, Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.“

However, accepting Jesus as your personal savior involves an understanding of who Jesus is, what a Savior is, and what it truly means to accept Jesus as Savior. Jesus Christ is often talked of as a good person, yet the Bible declares that He is much more. Behold, Jesus Christ is God in human form who came to live on earth (John 1:1). He lived, taught, performed miracles, suffered, died, and resurrected from the dead to prove He is Lord. In 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Apostle Paul says, “I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”

What The Scriptures Say About Accepting Jesus Christ

There is much that the Bible says about Jesus Christ, the Savior of mankind. In simple terms, a Savior is a rescuer, redeemer, or one who saves someone else. Jesus is the Savior of the world in every aspect of this world. He rescues us from sin and eternal punishment when we trust in Him by faith. Jesus is a Redeemer because He paid the cost of our sins through His death on the cross. Jesus Christ can save us because He has the power to forgive sins and the desire to save those who trust in Him. To accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior is to acknowledge who He is in your own life. It is to believe and trust in Him. In support John 1:12 says, “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

John 3:16 clearly says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” Today, we invite you to place your faith in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and receive this free gift of Eternal Life. Although there is no special prayer to do so, you can make use of this one: “Heavenly Father, locate me in your mercy and favor. I realize that I am a sinner and could never reach heaven by my own good deeds. Right now I place my faith in Jesus Christ as God’s Son who died for my sins and rose from the dead to give me eternal life. Please forgive me of my sins and help me to live for you. Thank you for accepting me and giving me eternal life.”

Steps On How To Accept Jesus Christ Into Your Life

1. Admit that you are a sinner and that you need God’s help

Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;“

Romans 5:12 – “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:“

1 John 1:10 – “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”

2. Be willing to change your mind and turn from your sin through a sincere repentance

In Luke 13:5, Jesus said, “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”

3. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you, was buried, and rose from the dead

Things To Do After Receiving Jesus Christ As Your Personal Lord And Savior

1. Regularly read the Bible to know Jesus Christ and God’s will better

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are to regularly read the Bible in order to learn His teachings and God’s will. We are to stick to the Bible as our guide and tool to knowing God’s will and rightly accepting the eternal life that comes through Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (aligning and applying) the word of truth.” Likewise, Psalms 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

2. Regularly pray or talk to God in prayer everyday

As Christians, our lives should be revolving around prayers offered to our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Likewise, Philippians 4:6 says, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” In addition, Matthew 21:22 says, “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.“

3. Follow the example of Jesus Christ

Upon making up your mind to follow Jesus Christ, you should embrace His teachings and ways. Get baptized, worship, fellowship, and serve with other Christians in a church where Christ is preached and the Bible is the final authority when it comes to knowing God and doing His will. In support, Matthew 28:19 says, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” Likewise, Hebrews 10:25 says, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” And 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All [Holy] scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:“

4. Teach or spread the Good News about Jesus Christ

In Luke 8:16, Jesus says, “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.” Likewise, Christians shouldn’t keep the good news about Jesus Christ only for themselves but should spread it throughout the earth for the good and salvation of mankind. In support, Mark 16:15 says, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Likewise, Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

Is Asking Jesus Into Your Heart In The Bible?

The phrase “ask Jesus into your heart” is not in the Bible. And, unlike some Christian concepts (like the doctrine of the trinity) we don’t find Biblical passages that indirectly point to it, either. The closest we might come across is this passage in Revelation 3:20, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” The first thing we notice is that this verse is not saying anything about the heart. Nor does it say anything about a person asking Jesus for something; instead, Jesus knocks, and the person opens the door.

Another potential passage might be Ephesians 3:16-17, “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.” Once again, however, this Biblical passage is not referring to a salvation message or asking something from Jesus Christ. It is addressed to the believers as Apostle Paul prays for them to grow in relationship with Him. Generally, when people talk about “asking Jesus into our hearts,” they are talking about becoming a Christian. These words not being in the Bible does not mean that the phrase is unbiblical or anti-biblical. Instead, the phrase points to some key components of coming to Jesus Christ. The use of such a phrase is not wrong or harmful on its own. Problems arise when such is used without explaining its meaning.

Meaning of the phrase to ask Jesus into your heart

Note that the idea behind “asking Jesus into our hearts” is that He would take center stage in our lives. When we say something is “near to our heart,” we mean that it is of great importance to us. The Bible also tells us that the Holy Spirit dwells with the believers (1 Corinthians 3:16). This idea of the Holy Spirit indwelling may be translated by some, especially for children, like Jesus coming to live in our hearts, though this is not technically accurate. In addition, the phrase “asking Jesus into our hearts” alone does not convey the fullness of the gospel or what it means to submit to Christ as Lord and Savior. That is, it doesn’t speak much about submitting to Christ’s Lordship, repentance, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Following this, we regularly hear other ways of referring to a person receiving or accepting Christ.

One prominent phrase that is often used instead of “asking Jesus into your heart” is “accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior.” This phrase is twofold. First, accepting Christ as Lord means putting Him in charge of our lives and recognizing His authority over all things (Philippians 2:9-11; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Matthew 28:18). Second, recognizing Him as Savior shows our acknowledgment of our own sin and need for saving (Romans 3:23-24). Another phrase that some people use is “turning to Christ” or “turning to Jesus.” Such phrases help to remind us that we are turning away from a life of sin and turning towards Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17). Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Fools Talk Too Much Quote. The Bible clearly warns us against talking too much or being overly talkative. In fact, the Bible tells us that a fool can be recognized by his many words (Ecclesiastes 5:3). Ecclesiastes 10:14 adds that a fool “multiplies words.” Christians should understand that the Bible discourages the use of an abundance of words where a few would suffice. Proverbs 17:28 says, “Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.” Behold, those who feel compelled to give utterance to every thought in their heads usually end up in trouble. Proverbs 10:8 openly describes the overly talkative person as a “prating fool” (NKJV), a “babbling fool” (ESV, NASB), or a “chattering fool” (ISV) who is on his way to ruin. Such a person is contrasted with one who is “wise of heart.“

Talking too much leads to sin as we can read from Proverbs 10:19 that says, “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.” Truthfully speaking, the wise person refuses to talk too much. Rather, he fears and honors the Lord God Almighty. He listens to the Lord and obeys His commands. He follows the example of Mary, “who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said” (Luke 10:39). It is important to understand that when our mouths are full of our own words, we have little time or interest in God’s words. Talking too much is a sign or a clear indication that we are listening too little. That is, we are more focused on passing a message than receiving one. As Christians, we should talk less and listen more.

The Bible clearly makes us understand that restraining our lips is an indication of wisdom and humility. Talkative people often do not take the time between their many words to carefully and wisely choose what to say and what to hold back. Today’s modern culture offers numerous avenues through which we can express ourselves verbally. Cell phones, social media, blogs, and call-in radio all enable us to keep up a constant stream of chatter. But how much of our talking is really important or edifying? Ephesians 4:29 says, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Saying what really needs to be said is important, but talking too much easily leads to saying what should not be said.

From the different quotations of Apostle Peter in the gospels, it seems that he was a talkative person by nature. In one instance at least, Peter’s verbosity was ill-advised. While on the mount of transfiguration, Peter says to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what to say . . .)” (Mark 9:5–6). Here, we notice that Peter “did not know what to say,” so, of course, he said something! This is exactly what talkative people do. It is amazing how God rapidly silenced Peter by redirecting his focus: “A cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: ‘This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!’” (Mark 9:7). Notice that Peter’s talking had to be replaced with listening.

What The Scriptures Say

We are made to understand by the Scriptures that just as the overly talkative person displays foolishness, the one who holds his tongue demonstrates knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 17:27 says, “He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.” We can’t gain knowledge if we are constantly talking, but understanding comes from listening and using our words sparingly. James 1:19 says, “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak . . .”

Helpful Prayer To Stop Talking Too Much

As Christians, it is important for us to understand that talking too much is detrimental to our witness in the world, as Apostle James reminds us, “If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless” (James 1:26). Apostle James later says that controlling the tongue is one of the hardest things to do, humanly speaking (James 3:2). In fact, “no human being can tame the tongue” (James 3:7). Amazingly, we have the Holy Spirit to help us with the task, and here is a Helpful Prayer To Stop Talking Too Much: “Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips” (Psalm 141:3).

The English letters of this Greek word look like this: “baptidzo.” It is worth noting that the Greek word “baptidzo” literally means to “immerse” or to “dip”.

The spiritual symbolism of Baptism – Matthew 3:1-17

Unlike the unsound doctrines that many are propagating around in the name of Baptism, the divine truth is found in Matthew 3:1-17. The Bible clearly makes us to understand that the Baptism of Water is of John the Baptist while that of the Holy Spirit and Fire is of Jesus Christ. Although all these Baptisms come from God Almighty, they are attributed to different initiators. God instructed John to commence that of water while that of the Holy Spirit and Fire was reserved for his son, Jesus Christ. Hence, if there is any qualified servant of God to teach us what God truly wants from Water Baptism, it is John the Baptist. And on to our knowledge, the teachings of John the Baptist on Baptism are clearly revealed in Matthew 3:1-17.

John the Baptist in his own words say in Matthew 3:11 – “I BAPTIZE you with WATER to show that you have REPENTED, but the one who comes after me will baptize you with the HOLY SPIRIT and FIRE. He is much greater than I am; and I am not good enough to carry his sandals.” This Biblical verse answers almost all, if not all questions surrounding baptism by water. Baptism by water is a physical act that shows an inward change of heart. It indicates an individual who has Sincerely Repented from their sins and decided to follow the ways of God by obeying the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ.

Unclear teachings about Baptism by Water

The explanations above put in question the doctrine propagated by many when they say that the symbolism of baptism is that, just as Christ died and was buried, every baptized person is completely immersed or submerged under water. And that just as Christ rose from beneath the Earth, every baptized person rises again from beneath the water. And many use this as a supportive point to the belief that baptism is solely by submersion into moving water. Let’s support this by reading from Matthew 3:7-8 – “When John saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to him to be baptized, he said to them, “you snakes – who told you that you could escape from the punishment that God is about to send? Do those things that will show that you have turned from your sins.” It is without doubt that John the Baptist in his teachings and actions was pointing to or preparing the way for Christ. That’s why we’ll say that Baptism by water when accompanied with a renewed mind is a sign of commitment and devotion to Christ.

True Baptism by Water

We’ve deduced from the points above that true Baptism by Water has more to do with the heart than the physical actions of pouring or submerging in water. Whatever the case, this is in not a saying that the physical act of Baptism by water is by anyway less important or could be neglected. Remember the words of Jesus Christ to John the Baptist who turned off the request to Baptize him by saying that he was not worthy to baptize his master. Jesus said it must be so in order for all to do God’s will. That’s why you should not take Baptism by water lightly neither should you embrace it without a change of mind. A change of mind is what leads to Heaven through Christ. Remember the promise of eternal life that was made by Jesus Christ to one of the thieves with whom he was crucified.

We are not told anywhere in the Bible that he was Baptized by water but because he was able to acknowledge his sins and welcome the sacrifice of Christ, he was given eternal life. This example comes to encourage you to renew your mind in Christ rather than dwelling on little matters or differences in the way baptism is administered. Ask God to bless you with wisdom to take the right decisions and He will definitely do. We’ve learned from the scriptures that when the Son of Man heals you, you are healed indeed, when he washes your sins, you are whiter than snow, and when He forgives you, your are forgiven indeed. Questions and Answers About Baptism

1. Must you be baptized in order to obtain salvation?

Mark 16:16 – “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned.” You are just from hearing the words of Jesus Christ in response to question number one. However, we can’t also neglect the message from other Biblical books that were written by messengers of God. Acts 15:11 – “No! We believe and are saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they are.” In Acts 15 and Romans 4, Apostle Paul continuously points to the fact that salvation is obtained by Divine Grace and not by our works. Whatever the case, We’ll advice every Christian to get baptized without hesitation. Baptism did not come from man but from God. Remember that Jesus Christ showed us an example by being baptized by John.

2. Should a person be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ or in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?

Both are valid baptismal ways that are mentioned in the Bible. While some churches baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in accordance to Matthew 28:19, others do administer baptism in the name of Jesus Christ as we can read from Acts 2:38.

Many Christian Churches practice both infant and adult baptism. These churches support their action by citing Acts 16:15 and Acts 16:33, where entire families, presumably including infants, were baptized. While some churches baptize all infants, others baptize only infants of believing parents. The Baptist church and some others practice the believer’s baptism there by excluding infants and restricting baptism only to those who consciously repent from sin and experience spiritual rebirth. They support their act by saying that the baptisms recorded in the New Testament were of conscious adults who had repented from their sins and joined the faithfuls.

We still hold to our previously mentioned point that you should be more concerned about repenting from your sins or renewing your mind and turning to follow God that on the physical aspect of pouring or submersion as form of administering baptism by water. The Baptist church and others hold that full-body immersion into water is necessary for a valid baptism. They support their belief with the literal meaning of the Greek word for baptism which is immersion or submersion.
