What Does The Bible Say About Being Blameless? Being blameless is an important aspect in doing what God says. Let’s support this by reading from 1 Timothy 3:2 – “A bishop then must be blameless….” The Holy Scriptures call on all followers of Jesus Christ to strive for a blameless life. Living a blameless life is pleasing to God. And he/she who pleases God is considered His son/daughter through Christ (Romans 8:16). Such a person will live to see God’s throne and dwell in His presence through Christ. Let’s support this by reading from Psalm 15:1-2 – “LORD, who may enter your Temple? Who may worship on Zion, your sacred hill? Those who obey God in everything and always do what is right, whose words are true and sincere,” In simple terms, those whose “walk is blameless” may dwell in God’s Sanctuary and Sacred Hill.

Before associating blamelessness to perfection, we’ll call on your attention that only God is perfect. We have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:10). However, this is not a call for us to dwell in unrighteousness or spend our days sinning. Still on what the Bible says about being blameless, it is our duty to strive towards perfection by obeying the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ. He/she who Sincerely Repents and strives for perfection is made perfect through the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross at Calvary. Salvation or eternal life in the presence of God is centered around loving Him. And loving him is all about obeying his commands. Those who obey His commands will be located in His mercy and favor. What Does The Bible Say About Being Blameless?

Overview

The Old Testament concept of being Blameless

In the Old Testament, the concept of blamelessness carries two different, yet not dissimilar ideas from God. The first has to do with sacrificial animals that were completely “without defect“. We can read about this first implication from Leviticus 3:1, Lev 1:3, Num 6:14 and Leviticus 3:6. Note here that only physically undefiled animals were accepted as sacrifice to God. Blemished animals were not worthy of being offered as sacrifice to the Living and Most High God. Offering these blemished animals was in violation of Biblical laws and a demonstration of disrespect for God. It was from this religious ritual idea that the notion of moral perfection for individuals came into existence. “Blameless” people are those who cannot be accused of wrongdoing before others and God (Romans 18:23; 15:2)

Worth your attention on what the Bible says about being blameless is the fact that in the Old Testament, “blameless” is the translation of the Hebrew words “tam” or “tamin” coming from the root word “tamam” which means complete or sound. Hence, moral completeness has to do with a life of uprightness and ethical soundness, and not necessarily a life which is sinless. Never forget that we have all sinned. But if a person follows the part of repentance and strives hard in doing what God wants, he/she is made complete through Christ in the presence of God.

The New Testament concept of being Blameless

The New Testament heightens the concept of moral blamelessness. The concept of moral blamelessness is employed almost exclusively as a characteristic of Christ and His followers. In the New Testament, the sacrificial terminology is applied to the work of Jesus Christ when He is referred to as the “true lamb of God without defect or blemish“. Let’s support this by reading from 1 Peter 1:19 – “It was the costly sacrifice of Christ, who was like a lamb without defect or flaw.” Christ through the eternal spirit offered himself unblemished to God. The blameless character of Christ is portrayed by his continuous work as the believer’s high priest who “meets our need – one who is pure, blameless, holy, set apart from sinners, and exalted above the Heavens and the Earth.

10 Characteristics of a blameless person

1. She lives with integrity at home

In striving to live a blameless life, we must watch our words and actions at home as well as other places that we find ourselves. At times, we fail to purposefully watch our words and actions thereby leading ourselves into sin. We shouldn’t let our guard down thereby allowing our first, sinful instinct to rule.

2. She practices praise

3. She turns away from everything vulgar or vile

In our effort to obtain a blameless life through Christ, we should work hard in order not to be compromised by the sinful ways of this world. That is, we should not allow ourselves to become desensitized to crudeness, or immorality.

4. She ruthlessly guards against evil thoughts and behaviors

As followers of Christ, we have to free our lives from the captivity of evil thoughts and behaviors. It is only by so doing that we can hope for an everlasting life in His presence.

5. She does not use her words to tear down others

In search of a blameless life through Christ, our speech should be edifying and encouraging. Although this does not mean that everything we are going to say will be easy, it is a call for us to provide value to all those listening to our speeches. Remember that there is power in words. For sure, you are aware of the spiritual truth that God created Heaven and Earth with words. Let’s support the fact that there is power in words by reading from Proverbs 18:20-21 – “You will have to live with the consequences of everything that you say. What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words.”

6. She values and embraces honesty

We are told by the scriptures that Satan is the Father of lies. And behold, anytime that we are less than honest, we have given into Satan’s temptation there by going against God. That is why we should be committed to honesty in our lives and conducts. In the same light, we should also expect honesty from those around us while distancing ourselves from those who reject honesty.

7. She squashes conceit and pride

Pride gives birth to an abundance of sins. That’s why you should stay away from it when embarking on the journey to achieving a blameless life through Christ. As followers of Christ, we should always embrace humility by having the right perspective about God and ourselves.

8. She does not collaborate with ungodly, wicked people that do not want to change

In striving for a righteous life through Christ, we should not hurry our feet or join hands with wicked people to do things that are against God. Calling on you to have nothing to do with wicked people is a call for you to completely depart from this world. While this is not possible, we are trying to advice you not to keep on dwelling or joining hands with wicked people who are not willing to welcome God’s light and start doing good. Keeping company of such people might push you into loosing focus and joining them in their wicked ways. Not that this is not a call for you not to show them love. For it is by showing them love that you are identified with Christ. You should rather not join them in their evil ways but call on them to join you in the light of God.

9. She does not seek gain that brings harm to others

It is true that God wants us to prosper as we can read from Jeremiah 29:11. But for the achievement of this prosperity, He wants us to make use of the skills, talents, gifts that He blessed us with. God wants us to support the advancement of His Kingdom, serve others, and provide for ourselves and family members.

10. She encourages, helps, and protects those who remain faithful to God

In striving to achieve a blameless life through Christ, we should always give value to stretching out our hands to help those in need, speaking forth words of encouragement to those who are about to give up and reassuring them of God’s ability to protect us. What Does The Bible Say About Beauty? For sure, there is much that the Bible says about the beauty of God and His creatures. We have those verses that praise beauty on a spiritual level, and those that warm us against over-focusing on physical appearance in the name of beauty. According to the world, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” In simple terms, many people believe that beauty is defined by the observer. Many perceive beauty as a combination of qualities such as color, shape, or form that is pleasing the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.

Billions of dollars are spent yearly by old people who want to become young with an appearance of beauty. On the other hand, young people are also spending huge sums just to look old as a way of portraying their own beauty. Is this true beauty? Or could it be that we are missing something. Whatever the case, the Bible is clear on the true definition of beauty. The Bible clearly defines beauty in a different way from the world. While the world focuses on an outer appearance, the Bible focuses on inward qualities as beauty. According to the Bible, anything seductive to the eyes is called lust of the eyes as we can read from Romans 1:27, Matthew 5:28, and Proverbs 6:25-26. And behold, lust of the eyes is one of the three ways that we are tempted to sin according to 1 John 2:16 and James 1:13-15.

Coming back to what the world perceives as beauty while the Bible points to it as lust, we’ll like to pour more light to the three types of lust previously mentioned. As we know, lust of the eyes is one of the three ways that we are tempted by the Devil to sin. In the Garden of Eden, Satan used all three lusts to tempt Eve as we can read from Genesis 3:1-6. Unfortunately she gave in to the ways of Satan. We are told in Genesis 3:6 that she saw that the tree was good for food (Lust of the Flesh); that it was beautiful or highly pleasant to the eye (Lust of the Eye); and that it would divinely make her wise like gods (Pride of Life). By so-doing, Eve used her own judgement and easily gave into temptation there by bringing the downfall of mankind.

During the 40 days fast that Jesus Christ embraced, Satan also came forward with the three lusts to make him sin. Unlike Eve, Jesus Christ resisted Satan till the end. As we can read from Luke 4:1-13, Satan challenged Jesus Christ to turn stones into bread (Lust of the Flesh); He went forth to presenting all the kingdoms of the world to Jesus Christ and promising to offer them to Him if He worshiped him (Lust of the Eyes); Finally, he took Jesus Christ to the top place or roof of the Temple and asked Him to jump off so as to proof that He was the Son of God (Pride of Life). Jesus Christ used scriptures to resist all these temptations there by living Satan with no choice that to flee away.

What you should know about Beauty

The Bible portrays true beauty as beauty on the inside. Such beauty is usually accompanied by good works and faithful to God. Always remember that true beauty can not be separated from the Love of God. And worth noting is the fact that loving God is being faithful to his commands. Good works alone cannot make-up for genuine beauty. Remember that what some people might perceive as good works might be the cause of troubles, worries, sin and death of others. Remember the stories of Adolph Hitler, Mao Tse Tung, and Joseph Stalin. While many perceived their works as good out of interest, these very works led to the death of millions. Truth be told, there is no beauty in such. Their actions were motivated but everything apart from the love of God which is the true source of beauty. What is Baptism?

In simple terms, Baptism is an outward act that symbolizes the inward decision of willingly coming to and accepting Jesus Christ as real, as God incarnate, and as the sacrificial lamb of God that takes away the sins of all those who believe in him as he reconciles them with God and breaks the spiral of sin that dates back to the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. In Christianity, Baptism is the first step of discipleship. Its main purpose is to portray a visual testimony of our commitment to Christ. The Greek word for “Baptism” is “βαπτιζω”. The English letters of this Greek word look like this: “baptidzo.” It is worth noting that the Greek word “baptidzo” literally means to “immerse” or to “dip”.

The spiritual symbolism of Baptism – Matthew 3:1-17

Unlike the unsound doctrines that many are propagating around in the name of Baptism, the divine truth is found in Matthew 3:1-17. The Bible clearly makes us to understand that the Baptism of Water is of John the Baptist while that of the Holy Spirit and Fire is of Jesus Christ. Although all these Baptisms come from God Almighty, they are attributed to different initiators. God instructed John to commence that of water while that of the Holy Spirit and Fire was reserved for his son, Jesus Christ. Hence, if there is any qualified servant of God to teach us what God truly wants from Water Baptism, it is John the Baptist. And on to our knowledge, the teachings of John the Baptist on Baptism are clearly revealed in Matthew 3:1-17.

John the Baptist in his own words say in Matthew 3:11 – “I BAPTIZE you with WATER to show that you have REPENTED, but the one who comes after me will baptize you with the HOLY SPIRIT and FIRE. He is much greater than I am; and I am not good enough to carry his sandals.” This Biblical verse answers almost all, if not all questions surrounding baptism by water. Baptism by water is a physical act that shows an inward change of heart. It indicates an individual who has Sincerely Repented from their sins and decided to follow the ways of God by obeying the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ.

Unclear teachings about Baptism by Water

The explanations above put in question the doctrine propagated by many when they say that the symbolism of baptism is that, just as Christ died and was buried, every baptized person is completely immersed or submerged under water. And that just as Christ rose from beneath the Earth, every baptized person rises again from beneath the water. And many use this as a supportive point to the belief that baptism is solely by submersion into moving water. Do those things that will show that you have turned from your sins.” It is without doubt that John the Baptist in his teachings and actions was pointing to or preparing the way for Christ. That’s why we’ll say that Baptism by water when accompanied with a renewed mind is a sign of commitment and devotion to Christ.

True Baptism by Water

We’ve deduced from the points above that true Baptism by Water has more to do with the heart than the physical actions of pouring or submerging in water. Whatever the case, this is in not a saying that the physical act of Baptism by water is by anyway less important or could be neglected. Remember the words of Jesus Christ to John the Baptist who turned off the request to Baptize him by saying that he was not worthy to baptize his master. Jesus said it must be so in order for all to do God’s will. That’s why you should not take Baptism by water lightly neither should you embrace it without a change of mind. A change of mind is what leads to Heaven through Christ. Remember the promise of eternal life that was made by Jesus Christ to one of the thieves with whom he was crucified.

We are not told anywhere in the Bible that he was Baptized by water but because he was able to acknowledge his sins and welcome the sacrifice of Christ, he was given eternal life. This example comes to encourage you to renew your mind in Christ rather than dwelling on little matters or differences in the way baptism is administered. Ask God to bless you with wisdom to take the right decisions and He will definitely do. We’ve learned from the scriptures that when the Son of Man heals you, you are healed indeed, when he washes your sins, you are whiter than snow, and when He forgives you, your are forgiven indeed. It is in this light that we are calling on you to focus more on an inward change of heart.

Questions and Answers On What The Bible Says About Baptism

1. Who can be baptized?

Many Christian Churches practice both infant and adult baptism. These churches support their action by citing Acts 16:15 and Acts 16:33, where entire families, presumably including infants, were baptized. While some churches baptize all infants, others baptize only infants of believing parents. The Baptist church and some others practice the believer’s baptism there by excluding infants and restricting baptism only to those who consciously repent from sin and experience spiritual rebirth. They support their act by saying that the baptisms recorded in the New Testament were of conscious adults who had repented from their sins and joined the faithfuls.

2. Must you be baptized in order to obtain salvation?

3. Should a person be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ or in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?

Both are valid baptismal ways that are mentioned in the Bible. While some churches baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in accordance to Matthew 28:19, others do administer baptism in the name of Jesus Christ as we can read from Acts 2:38. This is inline with what the Bible says about Baptism.

4. What is the proper method for administering baptism?

We still hold to our previously mentioned point that you should be more concerned about repenting from your sins or renewing your mind and turning to follow God that on the physical aspect of pouring or submersion as form of administering baptism by water. The Baptist church and others hold that full-body immersion into water is necessary for a valid baptism. They support their belief with the literal meaning of the Greek word for baptism which is immersion or submersion. They also point to most of the early church baptisms which were apparently ministered by immersion.

On the other hand, the majority of churches administer baptism by pouring or sprinkling water over the head of the person concerned instead of immersion. It is without doubt that they also have strong Biblical reasons for doing such. They support their action by saying that baptizo could also mean a simple worship, as we can read from Luke11:38. In addition to this, the Old Testament Baptisms were administered in different ways, and even some of the New Testament Baptisms apparently did not involve immersion as we can read from Acts 10:47-48 and Acts 16:29-34.

In both the Old and New Testament, the Bible teaches that uncontrolled anger causes more harm that good to the person harboring it and those surrounding him/her. Let’s support this by reading from Proverbs 29:22 – “People with quick tempers cause a lot of quarreling and trouble.” Although anger may be justified at times, the Holy Scriptures say that all those who continuously have “fits of anger” will not gain salvation talk less of seeing God.

Is anger always wrong?

Truth be told, anger is not always wrong. In some cases, it can be justified in the light of God’s justice. Remember Nehemiah, the Bible tells us that he “became very angry” when he learned that some of his fellow worshipers where being oppressed. Let’s read this from Nehemiah 5:6 – “When I heard their complains, I was angry.” Even God gets angry by some of our thoughts, words, and actions. Remember that when the children of Israel broke their agreement to worship only him and started worshiping other gods, the Bible says “Jehovah’s anger blazed against them” as we can read from Judges 2:13, 14. Whatever the case, God’s anger is always under control and well justified as we can read from Exodus 34:6 and Isaiah 48:9.

When is anger wrong?

Anger is wrong when it is uncontrolled or unjustified. Humans regularly get into the pit of unjustified and uncontrollable anger which leads to sin. Remember the story of Cain. His anger against his brother which led to murder was unjustified. When God rejected his sacrifice but accepted that of his brother, he was unable to control the jealousy within him which led to anger and ended up in the murder of his brother (Genesis 4:3-8).

God also reproached Prophet Jonah for getting angry about the mercy He had for those living in Nineveh and decided not to destroy them for their sins. It is in this light that we are inviting you to have compassion, mercy and strive hard towards forgiving all those who hurt you. This will keep you far from anger which leads to sin. 5 Biblical Steps To Controlling Anger – Ephesians 4:26

1. Acknowledge your anger

Acknowledging your anger and desiring better feelings from God is the first Biblical step to overcoming anger. Failing to know your enemy in battle is the greatest mistake which can cost your life. That’s why we say here that if you are serious about overcoming the spirit of anger through the authority in the name of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, you’ll need to first acknowledge it and desire help as you turn to God. Let’s support this by reading from Ephesians 4:26 – “”Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath.”

2. Pray the prayer of forgiveness – Acts 7:59-60

Knowing that forgiveness is the key to fleeing from anger, it is important that we take action to put our commitment of forgiveness in effect. By verbalizing your forgiveness unto all those who have hurt you as Jesus Christ and Stephen did before those who killed them, you are more likely to let go and experience genuine peace and happiness from God. Let’s support this message by reading from Acts 7:59-60 – “And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.”

3. Set your will to forgive at all times and always – Colossians 3:13

Perhaps you were not aware that forgiveness is one of the main keys into divine happiness. By forgiving all those who hurt your feelings, you are are lifting off a heavy load from your back and making your mind receptive to receiving the true peace and harmony that comes from Christ. In short, forgiveness helps you to escape from the deathly grip of anger and all that comes with it. 4. Refuse to keep thinking about the offense – 2 Corinthians 10:5

Refuse to keep on thinking about the offense and ask God to heal the wound in your heart and it shall be well with you. By repetitively thinking about the offense, you cannot talk about forgiveness. Chances are high that you have had your mind puzzled at some point in time with questions about them. Why where angels created? What do angels look like? And what do angels occupy themselves doing? These are few among the many questions puzzling our minds about angels. It is without doubt that humans have always held an amazing fascination for angels as well as angelic beings. Over the past centuries, artists of all kinds did work extra hard to capture images of angels on canvas. However, our write-up on what the Bible says about Angels will help us to better know them.

Strange but worth saying is the fact that the Biblical description of angels has little to do with what is typically depicted in paintings. You’ve probably heard and seen the paintings of those cute little chubby babies with wings in the name of angels. Fascinating Facts From The Scriptures About Angels

1. All Angels where created by God – Genesis 2:1

Genesis 2:1 – “Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished.” The Bible clearly tells us that God created the Heavens and the Earth together with all things that are in them. This includes all angels and divine beings. From strong Biblical evidence, we can point to the fact that angels were created at the same time that the earth was formed. Their creation probably took place before human life was brought into existence by God. Before God crated the very foundation of the earth, angels were already in existence as we can read from Job 38:1-7 – “Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm. Let’s support this by reading from Daniel 9:21 – “… while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.” Let’s further read from Revelation 14:6 – “And I saw another angel flying through the sky, carrying the eternal Good News to proclaim to the people who belong to this world—to every nation, tribe, language, and people.”

8. Angels are spiritual beings – Psalm 104:4

In answering the question on the nature of angels, we’ll say that they are spiritual beings. Most Bible verses about angels support this truth. As spirit beings, they do not have true physical bodies as we can read from Psalm 104:4 – “Who makes His angels spirits, His ministers a flame of fire.”

9. Angels are not meant to be worshiped – Revelation 19:10

Perhaps you were not aware but angels are not meant to be worshiped. On several occasions in the Bible, angels are perceived reproaching humans from worshiping them but directing all worship to God Almighty as we can read from Revelation 19:10 – “And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.””

10. Angels express emotions like joy and longing – Job 38:7

The Bible tells us that even angels do shout for joy and also express the emotions of longing. Let’s read this from Job 38:7 – “… while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?” We can as well read from 1 Peter 1:12 – “It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. 11. Angels are subject to Christ – 1 Peter 3:22

13. Angels are too numerous to count – Psalm 68:17

The Holy Scriptures point to the fact that there exist an incalculable number of angels. Let’s support this be reading Psalm 68:17 – “The chariots of God are tens of thousands and thousands of thousands …” Let’s also read from Hebrews 12:22 – “But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly …”

14. Unlike God, Angels are not Omnipresent, Omniscient, or Omnipotent – Daniel 10:12-13

Angels have certain limitations and boundaries. Unlike God, they are not all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere present at the same time. Let’s support this saying by reading from Daniel 10:12-13 – “Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. 15. Most angels remained faithful to God – Revelation 5:11-12

Although some angels rebelled against God’s authority, the vast majority stayed faithful to him. This saying is deduced from Revelation 5:11-12 – “Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 19. Angels were created to worship and glorify God the Father and God the Son – Hebrews 1:6

In addition to acting as God’s spiritual messengers, angels were created to glorify and worship him. Our deduction is made from Hebrews 1:6 – “But when God was about to send his firstborn Son into the world, he said: All God’s angels must worship Him.”

It is literally translated as “God, the All Powerful.” You might be asking yourself why this name or how it came about in the midst of Israel’s children.

The Hebrew name El Shaddai (God, the All Powerful) came in contrast of the numerous gods worshiped by the nations surrounding Israel. Behold, God was to be known as the Almighty God who reigns over Heaven and Earth. Heaven is God’s throne and Earth is his footstool. God’s power is sovereign over all creation. The first use of the Hebrew name El Shaddai is found in Genesis 17:1 – “When Abram was 99 years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am the Almighty God. We perceive the Lord, Father of Creation, referring to Himself by this name, saying, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless.” And because God is who He says He is, this name has been maintained till date.

1. God is righteous – Psalm 119:137

Psalm 119:137 – “Righteous are You, O Lord, and upright are Your judgments.” God is all righteous in thought, word, and action. In everything that God is, He is always righteous. Not even Christians by name will get off easier from His judgement room than the others. Even some unbelievers know that God is love. However, we must be careful to get it right because there is a deep spiritual meaning behind this saying. It is without doubt that God loves people more than they can ever imagine. God has thoughts of a bright future and a hope for each and everyone of us. In case of doubt, you can read this from Jeremiah 29:11 – “I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.” It is clear that out of Love, God wants you to prosper materially and spiritually.

God manifested his love to us even when we were still dwelling in sin. Remember the ultimate sacrifice he made for our sake. It was out of an immeasurable love that He had for mankind that He sent his beloved son, Jesus Christ, to come and be sacrificed as the lamb that takes away the sins of the world. Today, anyone who welcomes this sacrifice of blood which was made on the cross at Calvary and strives for obedience to the Key Teachings of Jesus Christ is given everlasting life in God’s presence. Just as Christ was raise from death, all his followers will be brought back to life so they can dwell in the presence of God. 3. God is forgiving – 1 John 2:1

1 John 2:1 – “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” The Almighty God is a forgiving God. In his infinite love, he forgives, forgives, and forgives. But we must be careful not to take his forgiving mind or nature for granted. Behold, taking his forgiving nature for granted is not different from playing with fire. And he who plays with fire knows what will happen next. In asking for forgiveness from God, we should come in sincerity with no intention to get back doing the things we did wrong.

In as much as we ask for forgiveness from God, we should also adopt a forgiving heart for all those who wrong us. Failing to forgive those who wrong us will call on God to hold our sins against us. But if we unconditionally forgive all those who wrong us without setting limits for the number of times we forgive them, God will also do same for us. 4. God is Almighty – Isaiah 40:28-29

Isaiah 40:28-29 – “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.” All things are possible to God because He is almighty. God can do anything and everything at his own time. 5. God is Patient – Romans 15:5

Romans 15:5 – “Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus.” The Almighty God is a patient God. He patiently waits for us to come to him in repentance through Christ and be counted among the faithful. If not because of his patience, he would have already destroyed the world to get rid of evil. But in his loving nature, he is giving us more time to acknowledge our sins and come back to him before he brings the end of the world. However, you must not also take his patience for granted. Taking his patience for granted is getting into a deep whole which you might likely not be able to come out. Repent and turn to him with a faith heart when it is still day time. Jesus Christ will soon come for judgement.

6. God is unchanging and eternal – Psalm 90:2

Psalm 90:2 – “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” Brethren, let no one deceive you by saying the contrary. God is always the same. He has not changed from who He was yesterday. He is the same today, yesterday and forever as we can also read from Hebrews 13:8. His ways, love, patience, forgiveness, wrath, and laws are the same today as they were in the times of the Hebrew people some thousands of years ago. And they’ll continue on into eternity forever. God is final, he is absolute, and He expects us to live by the laws he gave some thousand years ago till eternity. Remember what he said to Moses in Exodus 13:14 – “And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’”

7. God is Wrath – Romans 1:18

Romans 1:18 – “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.” Behold, God is love, He is patient, He is forgiving, and He is also wrath. Note here that God’s wrath is not over people but on sin. God hates sin because He knows how damaging and devastating it is. Remember that it is sin that brought death into the world. Sin is punishable before God. It is also worth pointing to the fact that he offers mercy out of his grace which was released on mankind by Jesus Christ. It is without a doubt that God wants the best for His children. In His mercy and favor, He stands as our strength to overcome every addiction through His Son, Jesus Christ, and by the mighty working power of the Holy Spirit. Addiction is a disease with a long-range of harmful behaviors and conditions. Note that earlier recognition of your addiction can greatly help you to free yourself than when it reaches later stages. This, however, does not mean there is no hope for long-term addicts. It is important to understand here that even in your state of addiction, God loves you and wants you to turn back to Him.

Behold, All things are possible with God. That is, even if you’ve been suffering from addiction all your life, God can free you from it. Remember what the Holy Gospels say about Jesus Christ, the son of God – “He came to set the captives free.” Hence, you can count on him to free you from the captivity of addiction. But he won’t act without your permission. Do not forget that God has given us the choice to choose what we want. If you’ve made up your mind to overcome addiction by His grace, you can be sure that He’ll help you out. His word says that when his children call on him for help, they will not go without the testimony of his goodness. Even in your state of addiction, God loves you and wants you to turn back to Him.

What Does The Bible Say About Drug Addiction? Surprisingly, the Bible does not directly address any form of illicit drug use. That is, there are no express prohibitions against cocaine, heroin, methamphetamines (Meth), or ecstasy (MDMA). Likewise, there is no mention of marijuana, peyote, cannabis, acid (LSD), or magic mushrooms. In addition, nothing is said about snorting, huffing, smoking, dropping, shooting, vaping, licking, or any other form of ingestion. However, this is not to say that recreational drug use is permissible. On the contrary, there exist many clear Biblical principles that place drug use outside the realm of Christian acceptable behavior. Christians are under a universal mandate to respect and keep the laws of the land (Ecclesiastes 8:2-5; Matthew 22:21; 23:2-3; Romans 13:1-7; Titus 3:1; 1 Peter 2:13-17) except when they violate any divine imperative (Daniel 3 and 6; Acts 5:29).

Over the years, many have argued that marijuana does not warrant prohibition. Such people contend that smoking pot in defiance of the law is justifiable on these grounds and in light of (what they regard to be) the hypocrisy of outlawing weed while allowing alcohol and nicotine consumption. Although, those who argue this point may be sincere in their conviction, they are mistaken nonetheless. Heartfelt disdain for the law does not justify impunity towards it, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear unto our understanding. In rebuking the Pharisees for turning the Law of Moses into an excessively oppressive yoke, Jesus Christ still required His disciples to submit to their unfairly harsh demands (Matthew 23:1-36, especially 1-4). As Christians, we are to dutifully submit to authority while patiently persevering through unjust suffering and/or perceived unfairness (1 Peter 2:18-23), even if that means abstaining from marijuana in compliance with “unfair” legislation.

As born-again Christians, we’ve not only been called to submit to authority for submission’s sake, we are further constrained by a mandate to live above reproach for the sake of the Gospel (1 Corinthians 10:32; 2 Corinthians 4:2; 6:3; Titus 2:1-8; 2 Peter 3:14). Thus, criminality is highly reproachable. Although this first principle does not impact drug users living in nations like the Netherlands where recreational drug use is legal and permissible. Nevertheless, there are more universal applicable principles. For example, as Christians, we are all required to be good stewards of what God has entrusted to us, regardless of our national identity (Matthew 25:14-30). Behold, this includes our earthly bodies. Stimulants such as cocaine and methamphetamine increase the heart rate while constricting the blood vessels. What The Scriptures Say About Abstaining From Alcohol

As followers of Christ or Christians, our bodies are not our own. Behold, we “have been bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), not “with perishable things like silver or gold . . . but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:17-19). Upon purchasing us with His own very life, Jesus Christ has delighted to create in us something entirely new, something bizarre. By indwelling us with His Spirit, Christ has turned us into organic temples of sorts. Thus, caring for our bodies is not just a matter of good stewardship. Behold, it is a matter of reverential piety. This is both wondrous and terrifying. Another biblical principle is our susceptibility to deception. It’s worth pointing to the fact that as fallible creatures, we are prone to delusion. And because we are objects of God’s intense affection, His enemies are our enemies.

God’s enemy is our enemy, this includes the Devil, the father of lies (John 8:44), a most formidable and determined adversary. Amazingly, all of the apostolic exhortations to remain sober-minded and alert (1 Corinthians 15:34; 1 Thessalonians 5:4-8; 2 Timothy 4:5; 1 Peter 1:13; 4:7; 5:8) are designed to remind us that we must be vigilant against the wiles of the Devil (1 Peter 5:8), who seeks to ensnare us through deception. Sobriety is also important for prayer (1 Peter 4:7), as is obedience to God (Isaiah 1:10-17). As for drug addiction, not all illicit drugs are physically addictive. Nevertheless, they are all psychologically addictive. While most people are familiar with physical addiction, whereby the body becomes physically dependent upon a substance, psychological addiction is less known. Psychological addiction is an enslavement of the mind, often characterized by obsessive tendencies and a lack of desire to quit.

What does the Scriptures say about drinking wine/alcohol?

There is much that the scriptures say about drinking alcohol (Leviticus 10:9; Numbers 6:3; Deuteronomy 29:6; Judges 13:4, 7, 14; Proverbs 20:1; 31:4; Isaiah 5:11, 22; 24:9; 28:7; 29:9; 56:12). However, the Scriptures do not forbid any Christian from drinking beer, wine, or any other drink that contains alcohol. There are several Scriptures that discuss alcohol in positive terms. In support of this, Ecclesiastes 9:7 instructs, “Drink your wine with a merry heart.” In the same light, Psalm 104:14-15 tells us that God gives wine “that makes glad the heart of men.” Prophet Amos goes to the extent of pointing to the fact that drinking wine from your own vineyard is a sign of God’s blessing (Amos 9:14). Also, Isaiah 55:1 reads, “Yes, come buy wine and milk…”

The Command of God regarding alcohol consumption by Christians is that they should avoid drunkenness (Ephesians 5:18). The entire Bible which is the authoritative Word of God does condemn drunkenness and all its effects (Proverbs 23:29-35). In the same light, Christians are also commanded not to allow their bodies to be “mastered” by anything (1 Corinthians 6:12; 2 Peter 2:19). It is without a doubt that drinking alcohol in excess is highly addictive. Also, the Scriptures forbid a Christian from doing anything that might offend other Christians or even encourage them in any way to sin against their conscience (1 Corinthians 8:9-13). With this in mind, it is difficult if not impossible for anyone to say that he/she is drinking wine to excess for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Biblical facts about drinking wine

The Bible clearly tells us that Jesus changed water into wine. It is even said that Jesus Christ Himself drank wine on occasion (John 2:1-11; Matthew 26:29). During the New Testament times, water was not very clean. Without the modern sanitation that we have today, the water was often filled with viruses, bacteria, and other kinds of contaminants. Even today, the same is true in many third-world countries. Because of this, people during the New Testament times, people often drank wine (or grape juice) because it was far less likely to be contaminated. We can support this by reading from 1 Timothy 5:23 whereby Apostle instructed Timothy to stop drinking water exclusively (which was likely causing his stomach problems) and instead drink wine.

Back in those days, wine was fermented (containing alcohol), but not necessarily to the degree that it is today. Behold, it will be incorrect to say that it was grape juice, but it also appears to be incorrect to say that it was the same thing as the wine commonly produced these days. Again, we’ll say that Scriptures do not forbid Christians from drinking beer, wine, or any other drink that contains alcohol. We are hereby trying to say that Alcohol, in and of itself, tainted by sin. Behold, it is rather drunkenness and addiction to alcohol that Christians should refrain themselves from (Ephesians 5:18; 1 Corinthians 6:12). When alcohol is consumed in small quantities, it is neither addictive, harmful, nor sinful. In fact, there are some medical doctors that advocate drinking small amounts of red wine for its health benefits, especially regarding the well-being of the heart.

How much is too much?

In simple terms, a person has had too much alcohol when his drinking makes him or others vulnerable to harm. The Bible points to the fact that drunkenness is identified, not by a person’s passing out, but by such behavior such as walking unsteadily, being disoriented, having slurred speech, or becoming contentious (Job 12:25; Psalm 107:27; Proverbs 23:29, 30, 33). The Bible tells us that even those who avoid getting drunk can still become “weighed down with . . . heavy drinking” and face its consequences (Luke 21:34, 35).

Complete abstinence from drinking alcohol

Consumption of small quantities of alcohol is a matter of Christian freedom. However, drunkenness and addiction are sinful. In regard to the Biblical concerns about alcohol and its effects, due to the temptation to easily over-consume alcohol, and due to the possibility of causing offense and/or stumbling of others, it is best for a Christian to maintain the safe side by avoiding alcohol consumption (Matthew 5:29, 30; Romans 13:1; and Romans 14:21). As a matter of fact, the Bible teaches us that “denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world” (Titus 2:12).

Remember that God’s plans are designed to make you prosper as we can read from Jeremiah 29:11. Thus, do not doubt His ways but trust in them. Let His ways be a lamp unto your path. No one puts his trust in God and ends up in tears. Even if things seem not to be working in the face of your physical eyes, remain firm. Remember that we walk by faith and not by sight. Trust God because He never fails.
