The story of Paul and Silas in prison took place at Philippi. One day, Apostle Paul decided to take Silas with him to the prayer ground. Before this event, Silas had already proven himself worthy to be entrusted with the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was highly loved by Apostle Paul for his determination in spreading the gospel. He became more of a close gospel preaching partner to Paul than a student. While they were on the way going to the prayer place, a young lady who was posses by an evil spirit began following them. This evil spirit in her had been dwelling in her body for so many years. It gave her supernatural abilities to see and foretell the future.

In other words, this spirit made her to be a fortune teller. By then, she was working for a group of men in the city who were actually making much money from her fortune telling skills. When she saw Apostle Paul and Silas, she started following them and shouting at the top of her voice that “these men are from the Most High God”. She also called the attention of the people to listen to their teachings which were those that bring salvation.

She kept on following Paul and Silas for many days. During these days, she did not stop but kept on shouting that Paul and Silas were from God. At some point in time, Paul got upset and turned to the girl and said “In the name of Jesus Christ, I order you to come out of her”. Without wasting a second, the demon obeyed and came out of her. This was in accordance to the scripture that says every creature must obey at the mention of the name Jesus Christ.

The Story of Paul and Silas in Prison begins

When the news reached the owners of the girl, they realized that their money making business was no more. They got so angry that they caught Paul and Silas with intentions to hurt them. However, they were afraid of the authorities so they dragged Paul and Silas to the public square. They brought Paul and Silas before the Roman Officials and laid heavy accusations on them. Out of anger, they accused Paul and Silas for causing trouble and disorder in the city.

Paul and Silas are accused for teaching strange customs against the law

The accusers told the Roman Officials that Paul and Silas were Jews who moved around teaching strange customers that are against their laws. They further pressed their accusations with the fact that they were Roman citizens and could not welcome or join in the forbidden practices brought by Paul and his companion. As if these accusations were not enough, the crowd joined them in accusing Paul and Silas.

Upon hearing all these accusations, the officials tore their cloths and had them thoroughly whipped. Apostle Paul and Silas upon receiving a severe beating of the year were thrown into jail. The jailer was ordered to lock them up tight and take serious measures to prevent them from escaping. In obedience to these instructions, the jailer threw them into the inner cell where he had their feet fastened between heavy blocks of wood with heavy chains. Upon completing this, the jailer was certain that nothing could break the chains. Little did he know that God’s wisdom and strength begins were man’s own end.

Instead of weeping, Paul and his companion welcomed this persecution as what qualifies them to be servants of God. They refused to remain in sadness or dwell in sorrow. Instead of looking at their physical situation which was discouraging, they rather saw the award that awaits successful servants o Christ. Their physical pains gave them a reason to pray and worship God the more. Around midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God. The other prisoners were diligently listening to them.

God sends an Angel of Liberation

The story of Paul and Silas in Prison is one of the Biblical stories that display God’s tremendous power through an Angel of Liberation. The praises of Paul and his companion touched the heart of God who could not withstand seeing his servants in heavy chains. And as a result, he released a powerful Angel of Liberation who shook the whole prison. It is said that while Paul and Silas were singing and praising God, there was a sudden violent earthquake which shook the whole prison to its foundation root. This earthquake was so violent that all the heavily protected doors of the prison opened and the chains on all the hands of the prisoners were broken. It was by then that the Jailer woke up and upon realizing that the prison doors were open, he draw his sword to take away his life thinking that the prisoners had escaped. For he told himself that the punishment awaiting him from the Roman officials will be too much to withstand. When he was about to take away his own life, Apostle Paul called out with a loud voice telling him not to harm himself for everyone was still around.

Upon hearing the voice of Paul, the jailer requested for a lamp and rushed in to meet with him. Immediately he arrived before Paul and Silas, he fell trembling before them. Paul helped the jailer up who in turn led them out and asked what he must do to be saved. They answered telling him to believe in Jesus Christ in order to obtain salvation.

The Jailer and his Family receive Christ

Paul and his companion went forth to preaching the Good News of Jesus Christ to the jailer and his entire family. They welcomed the message and believed in their hearts. At that very hour of the night, the jailer washed and bandaged the wounds on their body. And without wasting any time, the jailer and his family were baptized with water as a sign of their conversion and new life in Christ. The Jailer took Paul and Silas up to his house and gave them some food to eat. Both the jailer and his family members were all amazed to have taken a new path of life in Jesus Christ. They were very happy about the fact that they had become God’s own children.

The next morning, the Roman officials sent instructions ordering the release of Paul and Silas. The jailer told Paul and Silas that they were free to go but Paul refused requesting the Roman Officials to come and let them out given that they were not found guilty. Paul sent back words to the officials that he was a Roman citizen who was unjustly punished and thrown into prison and that he won’t leave in secret. The Officials upon hearing that he was a Roman citizen were filled with fear and came to lead him out of prison by themselves. Upon arrival, they apologized and ordered Paul and Silas to leave the town. Paul went with Silas to Lydia’s house where they met and encouraged some believers before continuing their road.

Paul and Silas Song is fully anointed for worship and praise. It overcame Satan at his hour and break all chains on the hands and feet of those who were in prison. It went forth to breaking all the heavily protected doors in prison thereby liberating all prisoners. This holds although they stayed back to testify the power of God. The Holy Scriptures say that at midnight, Apostle Paul and Silas began singing and praising God.

Their praises and worships reached the heart of God who could not withstand to see his servants in chain. It was then that he sent an angel of liberation who upon arrival, destroyed all the chains that were bounding the hands of Paul and Silas. He went forth to breaking all the heavily protected prison doors. Everyone who was in prison benefited from Paul and Silas song as the angel did not leave without breaking their own chains.

This is an unarguable demonstration of what genuine, intense, and serious worship and praise made out of love can do. God is love and nothing out of love pleases him. Biblical Account of the story (Acts 16:16-40)

¹⁶One day as we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a young servant woman who had an evil spirit that enabled her to predict the future. She earned a lot of money for her owners by telling fortunes. ¹⁷She followed Paul and us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God! They announce to you how you can be saved!”

¹⁸She did this for many days, until Paul became so upset that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I order you to come out of her!” The spirit went out of her that very moment. ¹⁹When her owners realized that their chance of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them to the authorities in the public square.

Then the officials tore the clothes off Paul and Silas and ordered them to be whipped.

In Jail

The following scriptures unfold the story of Paul and Silas in jail. We’ll learn that even in jail, their faith is even more stronger as they find greater reasons to pray the more.

²³After a severe beating, they were thrown into jail, and the jailer was ordered to lock them up tight. ²⁴Upon receiving this order, the jailer threw them into the inner cell and fastened their feet between heavy blocks of wood.
²⁵About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. ²⁶Suddenly there was a violent earthquake, which shook the prison to its foundations. At once all the doors opened, and the chains fell off all the prisoners.

The Officials release Paul

When the officials found out that Paul and Silas were guilty, they sent orders for their release as we can read from the following scriptures.

³⁶So the jailer told Paul, “The officials have sent an order for you and Silas to be released. You may leave, then, and go in peace.”
³⁷But Paul said to the police officers, “We were not found guilty of any crime, yet they whipped us in public—and we are Roman citizens! Then they threw us in prison. And now they want to send us away secretly? Not at all! The Roman officials themselves must come here and let us out.”
Acts 16:35-37

The police officers reported these words to the Roman officials; and when they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they were afraid. ³⁹So they went and apologized to them; then they led them out of the prison and asked them to leave the city. ⁴⁰Paul and Silas left the prison and went to Lydia’s house. There they met the believers, spoke words of encouragement to them, and left.

The true modern church must reflect that which was started by Christ and handed to his immediate Apostles.

The Spirit of prophecy is for all times

The Spirit of prophecy is still in our midst. If you are doubting, open your Bible to Revelation 19:10 and you’ll learn that the truth which Jesus revealed is what inspires the prophets. Hence, saying that the spirit of prophecy is no longer in the church is like saying that there is no more truth in the church. New Testament prophets as we can read from Revelation 19:10 are men and women who are inspired by the truth which was revealed by Jesus Christ. In other words, the prophetic lineage is maintained in the modern church by the truth which was revealed by our Lord and Savior. Hence, God is still raising men and women who will speak in his name as well as make him known to the ends of the world.

The Prophetic is a gift from God to the church

In short, a man whom God has ordained for a mission is no longer an ordinary man. That’s why we should not be alarmed when we see such men accomplishing impossible things.

Why do we believe that prophets still exist?

Our believe in the existence of prophets is Biblical and well founded in the Holy Scriptures. That’s why we’ll invite you to read from Acts 11:27-28 – “About that time some prophets went from Jerusalem to Antioch. One of them named Agabus, stood up and by the power of the Holy Spirit predicted that a severe famine was about to come over the earth, (It came when Claudius was Emperor)“. Acts 21:10 – “We had been there for several days when a prophet named Agabus arrived from Judea“. Act 15:32 – “Judas and Silas who were themselves prophets, spoke a long time with them, giving them courage and strength“.

The above scriptures clearly reveal some of the Prophets who operated in the New Testament after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This eliminates the false teaching that John the Baptist was the last prophet. After the death of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ, many prophets came just as we can read from the scriptures above. These prophets were not coming with new doctrines but they were rather inspired by the truth which was revealed by Jesus Christ (Revelation 19:10). This is a clear proof that prophets in the New Testament are in existence. They are in our midst and are mightily used by God. But we are more into condemning them than listening to their divine messages. This will serve as a strong base to handle the case of Pastor Alph Lukau Exposed.

Haven’t you read John 14:12 – “I am telling you the truth: those who believe in me will do what I do. Yes, they will do even greater things, because I am going to the father.” Rather than throwing stones at others, you should better blame your faith for being weak. The words of Jesus Christ are clear, if you strongly believe in him, you can raise a dead and even do more.

Please do not allow yourself to be led by blind people. Do not consider a teacher of the gospel false because your spiritual leader asked you to. Never rely on your friends to conclude that a person who comes in the name of the Lord is false. You should rather rely on your Bible to know the truth. It is the truth that will help you recognize those who come in the name of the lord. How can you rely on others to say that a messenger of God is false without listening to his teachings and confessions about the nature of Christ? Remember that Jesus Christ did not say that there will be no more prophets after him. He rather said we should be careful because many false prophets will come after him. The Bible is our standard of living. It represents the whole truth.

Scripture to know a false prophet

It is in the light if the scriptures that we’ll teach you how to know a false prophet. Let’s open our Bibles to 1 John 4:2-3 – “This is how you will be able to know whether it is God’s spirit: anyone who acknowledges that Jesus Christ came as a human being has the spirit who comes from God. But anyone who denies this about Jesus does not have the spirit from God. The spirit that he has is from the Enemy of Christ; you heard that it will come, and now it is in the world already.” This scripture clearly offers you what it takes to resolve the case of Pastor Alph Lukau Exposed.
